Hey guys, as you all know Shadowfox is in process of making a Nes case, after that he is planning on making others including GAME GEAR cases. So, i was talking with TDIrunner an as he mentioned there is a lack of Game Gear Raw scans here and I decided to make this thread to collect all posible raw scans. That way when the time comes, and all dimensions of new box comes we have some of the raws available to make new covers.
So, fell free to post your scans here and I will make a list with the names of the games in this first post and I will link your post with your cover to the name on the list. That way we can keep all covers in order

Edit first post, i have added some scans that i found on the Raw cover scan section, so we have something to start.
@TDIrunner: There's a template already made for UGC that has the uniformity you probably want and can be resize to that new case in the future, but if everybody likes the idea of a new template, then fell free to post your ideas here too. I'm more of a retail person :P but i don't mind if someone post new ideas.
@MarioSonicDSA: If you have boxes please scan and post, if not and know someone that has them please scan and post ;D :P ;)

I know there are some templates, but when I go through the covers that are hosted I see a lot of different styles. The two most common seem to be the gray background and the purple background. Personally, I prefer the purple background, but I'm certainly curious about other opinions.

I love the idea of what the templates have
Red = Genesis
Yellow = 32x
Purple = Game Gear
Green (if i remember correctly) = Master System
it does make everything look nice and clean. I even took games out of the original cases and stored the cases to put them into UGC cases so i can have the colors look good

Will be easy enough to knock up a template fore each retail style, and can release the covers in multiple versions. Will be REALLY stoked if gg sized cases come out.

When the GameGear case is available i'll make a template for it. I've been working on a new Sega Template for a long time now ;D

Can someone check if this scans works for cover, if resolution are good I'm on my phone now and can't check them until tomorrow and I know others nows more than i in what to look if they doesn't work for covers. If they work i can add them to the list in the first post

Does anyone have a Actual box template so these scans could be inserted and then printed and folded to make a box?
Or could someone create a Templete using these dimentions?
I know the actual sizes but don't know PS enough to create one myself. Here are the dimensions: Face / Back: 11cm wide by 15.5 cm high side slices 2.4 cm wide by 15.5 cm high Slices up / down: 11 cm wide, 2.4 cm High End of the upper tongue (one with rounded edges): 1.5 cm above the tabs on the sides: 1.5 cm high above the tongue, the one with the hole for carrying rays, completely unfolded, 8.5 cm wide, 6.5 cm high.

Only has the purple stripe format in it at the moment - plan to do the black box, and grey square. Hopefully one day shadowfox will produce a GG clamshell, and this template should be easy enough to convert.
Does anyone have a vector of the gold Sega official seal? (Not the genesis one)

I'm preparied to buy some boxes if I need to, but I never, ever see them. I rarely see GG games in the first place, but when I do, they are cart only. :-[

Just did a quick test print to make sure i wasnt too far off before i do the final style. I'm a couple of mm too tall, and could do with tweaking the colours, but i'm pretty happy with the results. nfortunately the top and bottom flaps dont fit on a sheet of A4 paper.

I know it took me a bit by surprise. I spent ages fully explaining. Might as well have said:

In a nutshell the hardcore collectors with the boxes didn't want Jo public potentially reducing the value by replicating.

Lol. Hardcore collectors would know that fakes don't devalue the original in the slightest. Nobody who is fooled by a fake is going to pay top dollar for an original anyway.

Resolution is way too low on the few I checked on both sites. However, they can probably be used to create placeholders, and get rear texts from.
I think most gg game covers are going to end up being upscaled, or customs, as there is a dearth of decent original material out there.

Okay, so I have some good news. I'm a member of a local retro gamer facebook page here in St. Louis. I made a purchase from one of the other members and we got to talking about game collecting. He told me that he pretty much only buys CIB games, but he also told me that he pretty much only collects Nintendo stuff.
Well today, I spoke with him again, and it turns out that even though he isn't into Sega, he still collects Game Gear (he's not really sure why) and he has a bunch of CIB GG games. I asked him if he might be up for scanning them. He said he didn't mind, but his work schedule doesn't really allow him much time. However, he said he doesn't have a problem with me scanning the boxes for him.
So I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, because it will still be difficult to find time when we are both available for me to scan the boxes. We don't know each other very well, so he probably won't be comfortable with me just borrowing the boxes and scanning at my home. This facebook group has meet ups about every 6 weeks, and he hosts a lot of those, so the next time I am free for the meetup I'll see about scanning some of the boxes.
He didn't have a list, but he shot me a picture of his collection. I won't post it here without his permsion, but there are definately a lot of GG games there. ;D

Obviously he is working on NES right now, and it seems that Genesis would be next since it was a close call between the two. But I don't remember what could potentially be next. - Genesis replica
- SNES
- N64
- Genesis universal
- Gama Gear
- Saturn replica
- Sega CD replica
Ones I would like:
- Saturn DVD-like.
- Sega CD DVD-like.
- PS1 DVD style short box with manual clip, in 3 variants: 1 disc (no tray needed), 2-3 disc (1 tray attachment clips) and 4-5 disc (2 tray attachment clips). there is one good such case exsisting for one disc, it came with European PS2 internet browser disc (made by Amaray).

well if that's the order then Game Gear cases are not to far from being made, because Snes and N64 comes from the same case as the Nes so there's a part of the job done. ::)

Yep and Genesis universal is modification of Genesis replica (just different cart holder to hold odd carts).
Oh and missing from list is Famicom case, which maybe same as Genesis universal, but ability to hold all famicom manuals even those mini ones.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but for me, SNES, and N64 should be a lower priority because UGCs hold them very well. Don't get me wrong, I would love a more specific case that holds the game snugly along with the manual, but I would rather focus on games that don't have a good storage method at the moment.
Honestly, I would have no problem modifying Shadowfox's Game Boy cases to fit Game Gear, but there just aren't very many GG covers that fit those cases. And I'm sure that most people dont' want to bother making covers for those cases when we will eventually have a proper GG case.
I guess I just have to be patient. ;D

When you say "DVD like" do you mean smaller than the jewel case long boxes? Because I'm hoping he comes up with some type of case that could sit next to an original Sega jewel case long box and it would be difficult to tell the difference. I love the Sega long boxes and I'm trying to find spare cases so that all of my CD and Saturn games can be in the original cases, but damn if it isn't difficult to do so these days.

Let me know what you guys think of this. I put together a list of Game Gear games by region (North America, Europe, Japan and Brazil). The list is in Excel. The first tab is a list of every game and which region it was released in. The remaining tabs list each game for the specific region. I BELIEVE I have the names of the games correct for each region (i.e. some games have different names depending on where they were released). I was thinking we could use this to check off which scans we have.
If you are familiar with Excel, you can also use the filters to sort each tab as needed. Let me know if this is helpful or if you have questions. I'm confident that this list is 95% accurate, but I'm sure there are a few errors.

You could just about get 2 discs stacked on the hub, any more than that, no chance.

Not yet. I have only talked to him once since we discussed it and we were no where near a scanner at the time.
I think I mentioned that I'm a member of a local retro game collector page on facebook. We have get togethers every once and a while. The guy with the GG games is an admin and hosts a lot of the get togethers. I'm hoping that the next time he hosts an event, I might be able get some boxes scanned.

As much as I enjoy variety in cases and custom covers, I mostly just want to see a cover for every game not 20 different Final Fantasy 7 covers. :P

I'm a fan of the purple style myself.
As far as Game Gear goes, I'm probably going to just stick with my modified Shadowfox cases. I don't have many GG games (or manuals) and I doubt I will get many more. If I ever get my TV out mod installed, that might encourage me to buy more games, but we will see.

I'm fan of the retail boxes, but as it should be a custom one I vote for the purple one too, Not that I'm going to use it. As always I will go with the retail one.

I would would like to see retail versions available for every game first. I noticed with a lot of the other systems there are still a number of retail cases missing. The problem with Game Gear is getting the scans. Unless someone out there has a big collection of games boxed copies seem to be pretty rare, based on watching ebay for games.

I posted a few retail versions in another thread, I'm not as good as some of the people on here but I'm learning. Holding off on going too crazy until we get an idea of the upcoming Shadowfox cases. Although I would assume the UGC ones could just be resized.

For the nes, snes, n64 and others the custom covers are the retail wit the spine changed. I usually just change the spine and try to make it as retail as posible, like this new covers I modify.

I am late to this thread, but Shadowfox GG cases is something I am REALLY looking forward to. Game Gear doesn't get enough love, and quite frankly, most of its cartridges are neglected. This project will preserve SO MANY copies of GG games. If I pick up any GG CIB, I'll definitely post here.

If you see it as one list (us, eu, jp all together) is a lot of scan missing. But individually the US is at 1/4 of the scans and from the US probably we can make some of the EU and JP.
I'm a bit surprised that the EUROPEAN scans are the less one.

Also to make a request of scan now that I'm into Game Gear games :P. I started this thread without thinking on having a Game Gear, just to help the community to have all scans organized in one place, try to ask others to scan, and have them all before shadowfox make his game gear box. I had one game gear when I was like 10 and I really enjoyed playing with it. Before, I was excited to have here a complete game gear box scan, now that I have one I'm more excited than ever.

@fiatbravodriver: One observation, from the scan you post, there was one that is a US and JP only release game, Super Golf. So, i have add that one to the US list and not to the EU list. Can someone confirm if that Super Golf box is the same as the JP one?

I have a request. Please can one of the very highly skilled Artists here create me a Sega Game Gear Box Template to enable me to use the scans to make my own reproduction boxes.
I have tried using a scan adding rulers etc but I just cant get it to the standard I am happy with.
Here is a example photo of my N64 box template that I keep pestering everyone to upload scans for. I just clip the parts out paste in the sections then print and cut out and fold.
