Title: PSOne DVD Cover Project
Post by: Lumberjack42 on May 14, 2008, 11:53:52 PM
Okay, so I was messing around with Shenske's PlayStation Template and for some reason, I got this wild idea to make a PSOne version, just for anyone who might (for some ungodly reason) like their PS1 DVD covers to stand out even more than their PS2 bretheren.

So without further adieu,

PSOne Template Idea #1 - Horizontal

PSOne Template Idea #2 - Vertical

What do you guys think?

I think it's great. Looks fresh and stylish. Something very different from what we already have which is always a plus. I really dig the color scheme. The vertical style is my favourite of the two.

Looks good except...
"Street Fighter Alpha 3 explodes onto the Sega Dreamcast"
is out of place.

have you tried a white template with gray text and logos?
that might make it look a little more like the console.

good job though  :)

I was just suing my DC one as a test since I know that the game was released on both systems, It's by no means a finished cover.

Glad you like the look though!

I was going off of the color of the system box and accessory packaging. I think the white may be too bland for this design, plus, it would just blend in with the Wii and your DC look a little too much in my opinion.

good point

i understand what you are going for, its a good idea.
plus its nice you didn't change the size of the template so the different options can be interchangable.

more options = more covers

looks good to me  :)

edit: i suggest that the black stoke around the white box w/ the PS logo in it be removed.

Okay, I thought about it and I think I may have come up with something that won't blend in too badly with the Other white-spined systems.

after searching my old hardrive ...
i think almost 3 years ago i made some ps1 covers in MS Paint and i played around with something similar for a friend.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4

(FYI: as stated old cover, not 300dpi)

so maybe a dark gray and a black version, just a thought

Do we really need another black version? If you want your PS1 games to blend in with your PS2 games your (i.e. Shenkse's) template fits the bill perfectly. So Lumberjack's template would be a good addition to our templates section as it is something different which sets the PS1 games clearly apart from the PS2 games.

Just my two cents though. I'm not planning to recase my PS1 games (yet ;) ) so make of it what you will.

I don't mean a separate template, i don't think LJ meant that either.
I meant just adding some layers to the exsisting one because they are only slightly different.

it was just a thought, we don't have to  :)

Yeah, I think KaiserWave is right, we can just add the layers I made to your already made template, just so people can have more options. I don't think a black PSOne is really necessary.

fair enough, sounds good to me.

whenever you feel that you have the right colors, postioning of logos etc. just let me know.
I'll make new preview pics and update the template  :)

Okay, finally finished all the main series games (and Chrono Trigger) in all four flavors (PSX/PSOne Vertical and PSX/PSOne Horizontal.) However, I'm only going to load a preview of the PS(Black) Horizontal so I don't kill the bandwidth and my Photobucket limit.

That is the official artwork for the pal region PC version, I just couldn't find a satisfactory US version that didn't already have the Logo plastered on it.

Yeah, when I first pitched the Vertical PSX style (before Sony released the MGS Collection) but the logo was two low for the look I was trying for. Plus I never actually uploaded that cover, it was just a test of what the template looked like.

Fantastic covers LJ, especially on the Final Fantasy ones. Heck I'm even planning on buying all of those games just so I can make use of your covers. :P

Only problem is that my PS2 copies of Final Fantasy X and XII aren't going to look quite so nice and uniform sitting next to your covers. I don't want to come across as forceful or rude or anything, but would you consider making PS2 covers for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII (and maybe XI if you wish, I'm sure some people want it) in that style, so it all looks nice and uniform on our shelves? I'm sure we could all appreciate it if you could.

EDIT: Actually, all I need is just custom spines for the original X, XI, and XII covers so they match up on my shelf, assuming that's not much work of course. Thanks.

I think just a custom spine would work fine in creating the uniform look. Wouldn't be challenging at all I'm guessing if LJ used a Final Fantasy looking font instead of painfully recreating the logos for each game.

You know, you're right. A custom spine would be more than sufficient. In fact I think I'm going to edit my post asking just for that, because I know he likely has quite a workload.

That's not a bad idea. I'll do that and FF:Tactics in that style as well.

Lumberjack42, are you using Shenske's template for the horizontal/vertical Playstation covers? I wouldn't want to print out a few from him and a few from you and have any differences in the templates.

his is a modified version of my template.

as far as the black template goes he changed the white square behind the PS logo on the spine to black.  He also moved around the whole text pattern i had.

The way i designed the back black info bar was to avoid empty black space.  He changed it to reflect the PS cd case style stretching across the very bottom.

They are pretty much the same thing.

Hey,

First time postin' my full custom PSOne DVD case. I wanted to start doing these to match my MGS from the Trilogy Pack. This one is for Brave Fencer Musashi (one of my favorites) since I didn't like the ones already submitted. I would like to get feedback on if there is anything else I could add. This is a tough project due to the aspect ratio, I wanted to get the screens to show but it would smash the image. The cover is also custom made since I couldn't find a good way to position my raw. For example, the title on the cover I had to make from scratch using a skeleton of the official logo.

I would love to get some feedback before I upload. Also, since this is a two disc set (game + ff8 demo) I went out today to get a clear DVD 2-disc case. I'm thinking of printing this off with the inside art on the opposite side of the cover art. That way it's like the Jewel case where you had the art behind the discs.

Oooh, I really like that. Brave Fencer Musashi was a great game. I'd suggest making the PS logo on the spine have a black background so it matches up with most of the other PS1 cases on here. However, that's more of a taste thing I suppose.

Yeah, I'm just going by the MGS case that was released in the MGS Trilogy set. It has the white symbol on the spine, the way the spine and the vert is is exactly how the MGS one is, minus the E rating & SLUS numbers of course. Thanks for the feedback too.

Edit: Yeah! I was able to print out some test pages (the printer I have here doesn't let me print outside the margins) until I get back to my other place.

The front cover (cut cuz again margins): Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/DSCF0170.jpg)
The back cover (my friend's camera sucks): Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/DSCF0171.jpg)
The inside with Art, Instruction manual, & Game: Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/DSCF0173.jpg)
Manual out to see art: Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/DSCF0175.jpg)
FF8 demo: Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/DSCF0177.jpg)
Art behind demo: Here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v79/sorwah/?action=view&current=DSCF0178.jpg)

Thanks to the admins for keeping this site up.

Yeah, the official release of MGS had a white background.  Also, most covers on the site have a white backgorund, to my knowledge only SMMM and Lumberjack use/used the Black background way.  Like you said its more a taste thing.

@sorwah
good job on the cover i think it looks great.  just curious, did you use my template for the cover?

Yeah I did. It was a pain to use haha, not because It wasn't designed right. Just I use Paint Shop Pro. So it didn't see the "folders" for the Layers. I had to manually delete the folders (it thought a folder name was a layer). Crazy stuff like that. I also had to recolor the memory card spot since it's a pink color on all my game cases. What font did you use for all the stuff? I used Arial for the SLUS numbers.

By the way, I uploaded the cover just waiting for it to be accepted I guess. http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/Sorwah.custom.ps1_custom_ps1_bravefencermusashi.jpg

I'm hitting the sack, I haven't slept in 37 hours. Up all last night working on that thing haha. Fun times.

i'm about 95% sure i used arial aswell. When making my templates i try to use really common font so people don't have to search for the same font.

Well I guess it seemed like most of them to me because most of my covers are actually from SMMM or Lumberjack.

the black square vs white square thing isn't a big deal though. Heck even MSPaint could be used to correct that if you prefer it the other way. I'm still not sure whether I'm going to change them to all white or all black myself before I print them out or not.

Hey LJ, after skimming this thread and seeing Doom's response about you using a Final Fantasy styled font, i got to wondering if you have Runic MT Condesnsed (the actual FF Font) and if not, if you'd like it.

Shoot me a PM or post here if you do and i'll be glad to send it your way.

I'm curious, Lumberjack, are you still planning on doing this?

I'm pretty sure that with those you'll have more or less the entire FF collection cased in your style.

All,

I have a decent sized PSone game collection that I would like to use the new gray vertical template to create covers for and contribute them to the site.  Two questions:

1. I went through the thread and didn't see a download link for the template.  Did I miss it?
2. Any plans to add a Greatest Hits version of the PSone template?  I'd need one for my copy of Resident Evil: Director's Cut - Dual Shock edition.

Thanks in advance,

RWilloug
