Hi all! :D
I'm a contributor of emuControlCenter, here is the website of this software : http://www.camya.com/ecc/ (http://www.camya.com/ecc/).
And I wonder if you can give me your permission to use your N64 covers images. Indeed I would like to create a N64 imagepack, but I can't do it without your permission! :o
Are you ok? :)

I doubt this would be possible. The art is made by several different contributors who all might have different opinions. At best you might get permission to use a few of them.

We don't support ROM usage (as this is mainly used by copyright pirates) so my simple answer is NO.....
-
^The reason I didn't say NO flat out like you is that some contributor might be completely OK with it. But officially, at TCP we don't tolerate certain kinds of pirates. (If you sail the seas looking for other ships to board and loot, you're awesome in my book. And I don't think we care so much about you at TCP. But if you just finished downloading Mario Kart Wii or GTAIV I don't see much reason to like you, and neither does most of TCP)
Pirating old games is iffy for me. I think it's OK if you already own the games. Doesn't make it any less illegal (wish it did...) but makes it more acceptable for me. Although I'm sure 99+% of people who emulate own every game they download... ::) yeah right.

Hey Cyrille .... thanks for taking the time out and actually asking if it is okay. Out & out rom users don't generally even consider the legal niceties of taking stuff anyway so kudo's for doing the right thing and taking it on the chin...
As for the rest of you ...lighten up. Everyone knows my position re pirating ... especially newer systems .... but ...
The artwork here is after all .... copied directly from the original artwork [with the exeption of people creating custom covers]. In theory we probably have committed heinous crimes just making this stuff available here anyway. From my perspective, if the artwork pack is free & no money made off it then I cant see any major issue.
Cyrille ..... as most of these files are 5mb in size it's gonna be a HUGE pack [in excess of 1.8gb's just for the USA N64 covers] ....are you looking at reducing the sizes to make the packs more usable? If so then the quality drops a lot which makes me far far more comfortable with it .....

Yeah, if it's just for an image pack to have an image with the ROM you might consider downscaling the images to 96dpi or something. That would cut down the file size significantly and I guess nobody would raise an eyebrow.

Reading this I seriously LOL'd :D

Me too ;D

What's this? I said something... funny? HOLY SHIT! :'(

It's true that we don't really have rights over these covers. I suppose the most some people could do is get mad...
TheValeman is right in a lot of ways... but I don't think we can directly officially support piracy of any kind... reduces the risk of us getting shut down. I think we don't really have a say though, since it's not our art... especially with a quality reduction.

Hi! :)
First, thanks for your answers ! ;)
But I never imagine to create such a discussion here! ???
Indeed emuControlCenter and TheCoverProject have the same "strange" position : who need a ROM manager ? who need a Xbox360, Wii or PS3 cover ?
But none forces people to download games! Moreover their main way IS NOT to help pirates!
(the proof is that I'm using it, and you remember that I sent you some covers of MY games)
Besides I have to reduce the size of covers. To get these I use batch processing.
Now discussion is opened. Thus I think I should let you take your time finding an answer together.
I know that I could download all covers, resize and share them at emuControlCenter forum, and you probably never saw something. But as I've not a pirate's spirit (even thought I love Sponge Bob ;D), and as I know you did hard work creating this wonderful archive, I can't do it without your permission. ;)
Thank you! :D
See you soon! ;)

Well .... we haven't heard from the maestro Snowcone himself.
Still .... if you want my opinion for what its worth ..... reduce the picture size from 3366 x 2100 or whatever it is to something like 800 x xxx and drop the dpi from 300 to 96 which is good for screens anyway. That will drop the size and quality of the images. With those constraints I personally dont have a problem.
Hey .... I even tried the frontend in the weekend. Little too cluttered for my tastes & MAME was problematic so I'll stick with Maximus Arcade .... but the reduced size pics did look nice I must admit :-)
