Less glare. There are some really shinny parts on the scan (look close to the bottom), my guess it's because the age of the cover has made uneven and ondulated.

Since you could consider a star a step up from a planet, you could call Vt102 a star since he made a DVD template for a game console named after a planet. I scanned a few other ones, I hope they are ok. There may be a few issues with a couple. After scanning in Panzeer Dragoon I realized whoever had it before me thought it was a good idea to put a big black x across the UPC, I dont know if you can save it, Sonic R had a little glare (best I could do though), and Virtua Fighter didnt come out to good because of the shinyness of the cover with all that silver. Hope you can work your magic.

at 300dpi I have to stretch the image sometimes.. I rather have them at 600 and make them smaller in size (conserving quality).

I tried uploading some at 600dpi last night, I got the front to Heir of Zendor but when I tried uploading the back it just kept timing out. I dont know maybe my connections just too slow. I'll keep trying.
So I have tons of Saturn games and I will be scanning them and uploading them the next few days. But I have a request as well. I have alot of Japanese games. I would love for them to fit in with the rest of the Saturn games so it would be cool if you, VT, could give them a white spine. You know pretty much give them the NTSC format look. I have US covers to upload to but I will just start with these, because I am about to go to class.

If you are having a lot of trouble, place the several scans on a zip file (under 100mb) and upload them to repidshare and I'll download it form there.
P.S. Don't forget to turn on the DESCREEN/MAGAZINE option on your scanner

The pictures are a bit small so I can't make it out 100% but I'm pretty sure the thing on the front reads "Includes RAM cartridge necessary for play". The info box on the back basically explains that the game needs the 1MB RAM cartridge, and that the KOF95 ROM cartridge will not work.
edit: Oh, and great job on this cover, and the Macross ones. :D

I know VT is pretty busy building his MAME Arcade cabinet, so I figured the Saturn cases would take a hit for a little while, but I should have my raw covers finished this weekend. I have about 12 I need to scan in. But one I don't have and desperately need is FIFA 98. Cause mine is just sitting around in no case.... So it would be great if someone had the raws to that. But I will have mine up by sunday night. Thanks!
Back in the day Mookyjooky started the "SEGA Saturn Slim DVD Cover Project" on the CAG board.
I don't know if it was ever finished and Mooky himself quit making any new covers. He has made a backup of all his covers, however. So I got a hold of them and will start to post them in the next days. All in all there are 107 high quality covers for slim DVD cases. Some have custom artwork some the retail artwork so it might be useful for all of you guys in creating your own versions.
By the way, Vt, do you have a Saturn template? We don't have one currently, this would be your chance to sneak your name in there ;)

VT or anyone else that works on saturn covers. A Christmas Nights cover would be amazing. I know my raws are pretty bad, but thats cause its old and I was young when I got it, hah. :D
But It has wallpapers and artwork on the disc that just may be good enough to use. Let me know if I should upload the artwork.

He had around 100 covers, unfortunately half of them used back scans from Zonesega which are just upscaled low res scans and to make it worse they were watermarked with the Zonesega logo. So I added the ones without the watermark.
I zipped the ones with the watermark and will upload the link here since I'm sure the front scans are more than useful for some custom covers.
So I am not going to put links this time cause they were all moved last time, But I will just make a list of all the covers I scanned in tonight. Also, I do have a question, is the original version of nights scan a dvd cover? I am talking about the one thats hosted on the site.

Could someone please rework the Area 51 spine? The Saturn Logo doesnt match up with other Saturn games.

Wanted this to be a quick and dirty cover, but it instead became long... and dirty. Don't know what the rules and limitations are on covers like this, but this is pretty much in the spirit of the original back image, so it's at least relevant. If it's a big deal, I can change it.
I don't think that Marvel Super Heroes will make it on to the website. The front of the cover is too pixelated. It is unlikely that it would make it past admin quality control

I've decided I'll try to make covers for the most obscure games I own, seeing as they'll need covers more than others. This one isn't really obscure, but I doubt many have it for the Saturn as opposed to the PC.

Just Vector Magic. I honestly don't know of anything else.
The real way to create vectors is with software like Google SketchUp or Adobe Illlustrator. I tried it once very briefly but it looked too complicated. Hexxxer's ESRB rating logos were vectors I think until he exported them to an image. Ask him.

I finally got all of my raws up. Sorry it took a bit, I have been busy with school. Apparently Auburn gets full, Troy University was a bust, so I just enrolled in Columbus State. Which was a pain in the ass but it was worth it. You think with a 2 year degree a place like Auburn wouldn't say sorry sir were full. ???

The back looks really bland, but both front covers look really good. Keep up the awesome work with these Saturn covers!
One question though, would it be possible for you to start making covers using a Japanese style cover template as well? I'm guess I'm not in any hurry to put any of my Saturn games in DVD cases, but the purist in me cringes at the sight of Japanese games shoehorned into an American cover template.

Just something I've been pondering, how exactly do you guys get around the multi-disc game issue for imports like Grandia and Lunar 2 on a US/PAL Saturn? I don't exactly trust myself with a soldering kit, so I'm thinking I may just buy a Japanese Saturn; they do look classy after all. SEGA SATURN SHIRO!

Been working on an Akumajo Dracula X cover but still need a good scan of the rear. Can anyone who has the game, scan the back of it and up it to the RAW files?
Well technically none of them are either "Akumajou" or "Akumajo" - it's always written, as in the logo, 悪魔城 (or あくまじょう, if you use hiragana). The most "accurate" way to transcribe it using Roman letters IMO is Akumajou, or Akumajô; showing that the o at the end of word is long - which "Akumajo" does not. In any event, both spellings you mentioned are used frequently, and neither would be considered incorrect - it may be worth to keep in mind the various ways to transcribe words when searching for pictures of pretty much anything with a Japanese name.Need some help on this one.

I wish I could help with the scan. I'm no expert in Japanese, but I just want to point something out. I'm not sure how this works, but according to http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/games.html there are some games which are Akumajo and some which are Akumajou. For Symphony of the Night, Akumajou is used.

I'd reupload the Vampire Savior ones if I had a higher-quality logo. I'm pretty sure that's the reason it got rejected. As for the SFA2 one, I have no idea why it was rejected. Whatever the problem is, I still have the work files, all I need to be told is what to fix.
Re upload the SFA2 cover again.. I'll take a look at it and point out any possible issues.After that, be sure to visit the department of redundancy department. :P

Ok, so I am working on a cover for the PAL version of Dead Or Alive. I have not been able to procure any raw scans so I have taken a more original approach. Also I can find no evidence that it actually exists other than a disc image that I found. I am in the states so could anyone confirm this game's retail exsistence. If so, where can I find the product ID for the spine? Thanks. :P

That's the first time I have seen Mooky Jooky's template at full DVD thickness and I have to say I like it alot! Just the added benefit of having room for all that text on the spine makes all the difference. I thinks that is the gold and black template I have been waiting to see. Any chances of the other JP games you have done with the NTSC-U template getting that kind of a treatment?

As it was originally except i had to cut one of the languages from the rear as when i bought this about 12 years ago, the shop i got it from stuck one of there stickers across the back ( >:( ) and the b*****d thing ripped the front layer whilst i was removing it. I couldn't match the font and didn't fancy a 6 language re-type so the Dutch had to go...

So my version of this is in a double jewel case with no proper back (it has a set of instructions on how to view the portraits). This one has the JP front and the back is a mix of the U.S and E.U versions. I think it came in a standard E.U case as well as the jewel case, not sure what the significance of the different versions is though.

Question for you guys about printing. I've looked at the guides and tried printing a few times, but they just keep not coming out right. After measuring some of my actual covers and backs, it looks like the margins on the paper should be .25 for the vertical, and as close to 0 and possible for the horizontal. Is this what anyone else has found as well?
In addition to this, every time I try to print (with Paint or GIMP), it either cuts off part of it or flips it back to normal orientation. Can anyone lend me their expertise?

A while back when you said you were going to end your cover making hiatus, I started looking for some Saturn covers to scan (didn't want you to come back and not have anything to do ;)). Then when tsolfan posted he had them all, I thought, ok, I don't need to upload the ones I have because everyone can request the specific titles they're looking for right now from him . But on second thought I think I should upload them because irvgotti452 is right "you are a machine" and we don't want to burn tsolfan out (that guy's great). I had Alien Trilogy and Croc already scanned but you were too quick.
I'm going to have to put you in the "I wonder when the hell that guy sleeps club" along with BadChad, Grumbleduke, irvgotti452, tiktektak and a couple others around here.

I see your pumping out these Saturn covers pretty quick. I was looking through some of the covers you just recently uploaded and Im noticing a good ammount of dust that could be cleaned up. I only checked out Ghen War, Dark Legend and Skeleton Warrior but they all had a decent ammount of dust that could be cleaned. Might even wanna run a sharpen filter on them.
Keep the covers comming but I would put a little more effort into removing all the dust from them before you uplaod them. :)

Unfortunately the source material is not in great shape. I think the first step everyone should take before they scan something is clean the glass.

It's not bad for your first try. It's good enough that some sites in the web would host it, but just below standard for TCP.
Right off hand I can point out a couple of things.
1. Remove the U.S. or the JP logos and info. Go with one or the other not both.
2. When saving in JPG, choose the highest possible quality. I can see some tell-tell pixilation that is usually generated when the JPEG is no saved in high quality (around the dragon's tail).
3. Try to use a little feathering when erasing background. The area around the dragon's wing and tail are a bit rough.

If I remember correctly, my D&D cover couldnt be hosted because its a localization of a japanese game. I was told it couldnt have the ESRB rating or the NTSC legal text. Otherwise, the quality is up to standards.
Is it possible for anyone to do a DVD cover for Die Hard Trilogy and The Lost World Jurassic Park? The only one I saw for Die Hard Trilogy was a slim cover :(
Only one I'm able to find for Die Hard Trilogy is this PAL cover.
I know it's not the highest quality. I'm also looking for one for Thunder Strike 2.

I finished scanning in the entire NTSC-USA Sega Saturn collection back in November, so you should be able to pull front covers from there (the link to my instruction scan thread is in my signature). Just let me know which back inserts you need, and I'll get those pulled and scanned. Take out the official sega seal from the front cover. Those are for US NTSC only.
put the Compact Disc Logo instead as I did on this cover http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=9068
Also replace the Product ID on the spine. In this case it's MK81804-50
If im not mistaken, Child of God and Bulzome Rising were only released in Japan. I suggest you remove the Sega Seal and the ESRB rating

Almost done, just need to touch up the front. I'm getting real sick of covers with shiny parts, I love shiny, I one bought a game because the box was shiny, coincidentally GunGriffon Blaze, another Working Designs game, but its a pain to touch up.
I was toying around with ways to keep the front of Saturn games the correct dimensions, so I put in a spine like on the original cases.
I'm going to print it tomorrow and see how it looks in DVD cases.

There is a slim case available, but I'm looking for a full size DVD case such as the one used recently by Vt102 for Sakura Wars 2 and Akumajou Dracula X. There are good raw scans of some Japanese Saturn games in the raw section that I'd like to try my hand at, and starting with any sort of template would be very helpful.

Don't know if these are up to snuff, but here are a couple I've made since starting my Saturn collection earlier this week.

Scans are a little blurry but you cleaned them up well, maybe they could use a little more contrast and color correction. The white/black levels are off on some.

Sure. 600dpi is the way to go. Have a quick read of the scanning guide if you are unfamiliar with scanning. When done upload to mediafire and post the links here. Sorry to simply resurrect this thread, but I'm printing the covers for my games and some of them are missing. So, I'd like to try and make a proper DVD case cover for them. I have found both the NTSC-U and PAL templates, but did not find a template for the japanese saturn covers. The link from the quoted message doesn't work. I know its been 5 years, but by any chance would anyone have the NTSC-J template? Thanks!
