Well this is what i got for the official cover. Or do you prefer the SNES box-style?
-
Or do you prefer the SNES box-style?
Yes, Horizontal he wants.
One like the repro.
-
Thanks.
-
Is this possible?
-
Is this possible?
Of course and somewhat easily.
-
So Arseen are you helping me? Or I need to find someone to help me?
-
So Arseen are you helping me? Or I need to find someone to help me?
It's just that I do Verticals, never done horizontal.
I can try to do Horizontal but how the quality turns out... But I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
-
Hahaha, thanks Arseen. But if horizontal is too hard, you can try the original cover, like the yellow background and donkey kong is on the front. I think that is easier? Seriously, thanks.

I checked and formatted the Shenske Horizontal template for use and it seems that I can do everything as easily in the Horizontal as in Vertical format.
Only one thing is limiting the cover making and it's the front image... the available raws are not high enough quality to make perfect cover.
I can make OKish on but the front will look grainy.
I'll do it tomorrow.
-
I threw this together, but honestly it's pretty "meh" at best, im sure arseen can do better..

I participated in this competition at Blockbuster back in the 90s and finished 2nd at my local store (failing to advance to regional championship). I had the high score after my turn, but when I called the store later that evening, I find out a kid walked in right before Blockbuster closed that night and beat my banana score.
I want a repro of this game for the SNES collection. It would be fun to see how close I'd get to the winning score of 3641. ;D
Great looking covers.

Nope your attempt came out better.
I can do covers from ready clean material, but cleaning this bad stuff is out of my league.

I has one IIRC

pm sent.

Could I trouble someone for a vertical version of this (low quality is ok)? Thanks
-
I managed to convert most of the front to a usable format. The rest should easily be doable by someone here.
This is the "logo" on the front minus the text, and without the DKC images in a Photoshop format. Someone should be able to easily add the text to the logo and I'm sure the DKC cliparts are available on google. :)

-
I've started to work on a vertical but I have some personal matters to deal with this week. I have less free time available. I will upload my version whenever i can finish it. I've already started restoring the Blockbuster logo. I think that everyone has the DKC logo that's been floating around since 2000. I think that the logos originated from ign. Anyway, I have lifted the tag team Kongs from a cart scan by sheep (many Thanks.) I also started a horizontal.
-
Many thanks to you both. I really appreciate it
Do you guys think it would be cool if there was a spine/cover template for repro games that had "REPRO" clearly indicated on the spine/cover so there was no mistaking it for an original game?
Maybe the text on spine could be a different color and also say something other than 'Super Nintendo' to distinguish it from original games, so instead of saying 'Super Nintendo' in red text at top of spine, it could maybe say 'Repro' or 'Super Repro' in blue (or green) at the top of the spine.
Arseen's idea: Maybe replace 'Super Nintendo' text on the spine and front with stylised word 'Repro' or 'Super Repro' or turn the red text to green or blue and add text "repro" or "reproduction" under 'Super Nintendo' text like the PAL spine says PAL version now.
What do you guys think, is it a good idea to give repro games a special label to distinguish them from retail games?
-
i can tinker with a Repro spine but maybe you should ask Shenske to make a template. My opinion doesn't matter because you can do as you wish. I will make something and perhaps other members will participate. Every idea is a good idea. I would not disagree with someone's personal cover choices. Anyway, I will work on it too whenever i can do so.
-
Just wanted to bounce the idea off some other minds cause we have some smart people here. I thought some others might be interested in a repro cover template but maybe not. I think I saw that Shenske is working on making covers for a new case on the market, but there are many good artists here and lucky for me I'm not too picky. :)
-
Shhhh...... Everytime you guys say repro the admins kill a kitty.
-

No we kill only if you ask where to get them or how to make them. ;)
-
add text "repro" or "reproduction" under 'Super Nintendo' text like the PAL spine says PAL version now.
You could have posted the mock up I did :D:

-
I wasn't sure if that was ok as it's somewhat taboo here. Anything that obviously identifies it as being repro is good enough for me :P
-

Taboo here is only telling where to buy repros or telling how to make them.
Shenske doesn't like his template to be altered but hopefully he forgives me as this is just small size concept mock-up. :-\
-
OK
-
I made a one exclusively for someone a few months ago. He gave me the go ahead to share it here. Ill convert it to the vertical template tonight. It's very different from the original BlockBuster design, you guys will like it :D
-
Cool thank you
-
That is good. Shenske will make a template. I will donload the template and move my work over to the new template. I just napped so i have some time and energy to work on it. I'll finish the tag team kongs and blockbuster logo now. :)
-
New template? I'm just using the Vertical Template I made a few years ago for TCP

LOL. Not beer this time; just lack of sleep. ;D
i'm finishing the restoration of the Blockbuster logo, so i should be able to post a DKC-C vertical this week.

I'll try to scan stuff tomorrow when I have day off.
WED & THU work.
FRI Not possible to scan (You know why 8))
SAT Maybe.
SUN & MON time to scan.
-
yes, please ;D i want some scans. i get goofy when i get no scans.
i am about to buy some more boxes. sometime this week. I'd like to buy some boxes that you don't have in your collection either.
I am scanning Yoshi's Story N64 Nintendo Player's Guide. I have about 24 scans done (out of 128.)
I just identified the fonts used on the box for DKC Competition, so i'll try to finish it this week.
I have a few other things to work on (non pc-related.) And I have to take care of my Pregnant Fiancee.
Hopefully, i can finish restoring the Blockbuster logo today.

Perfect.
I'll drop my car to the repair shop, and after that start scanning some things.
-
I hope that the car is okay.
I just woke up. Drinking coffee and thinking about my to-do list today.
just helped someone with a font request, now i work on DKC a bit.
I will scan too. I have to wake up, eat breakfast, then shower.
type to you later ...

Yeah the car is fine (fineish...)
Current problem is the hole in the exhaust which cause defening sound.
Easy peasy patching fix, but I go with the bit more expensive route of total changing of exhaust at cost of 60 Euros + work, so not too bad.
Actually dropped the car of just before typing this so scanning starts now.
I'll see what I can find in the EUR / US front.
But if nothing new is found then I go Super Bomberman 4 and 5 JAP CIB.
-
decided to make a retail box. I like the original better than black templates:
Finally identified all of the fonts and finished typing the text on the back of the cover.
I will wait to finish this cover because i'll be going box shopping.
I get tired of looking for box scans. I'll post some pics of my purchases.
Arseen, Enjoy your weekend and have fun tomorrow ;D
-
by the way, i've scanned another 24 pages from the guide (that's about 12 boxes worth of scans.)
-
Nice! That would be awesome to have a manual for this one, great work thus far.
-
Great stuff!
-
Thank You, Fritz, i can't wait to finish this one :)
Thank You, Shenske. I was thinking about making a manual for it too. I love this series of games. DKC1-3 are my favs.
I also want to make a vertical and horizontal black (Shenske Templates) as well as a horizontal repro.
I like the repro box too. I want to make all of them.
I am almost finished restoring the Blockbuster logo. Just need to wrap the text around the path.
I will work on it more this weekend and hopefully post a few covers by Monday...
Have a nice weekend everyone ;D
-
Arseen, Enjoy your weekend and have fun tomorrow ;D
Thank you altough tomorrow (thursday) is still work day.
But the Friday should be fun, even though few have dropped off due to being sick, but the hardest partiers are still going. ;D
I started scanning yesterday, but my lil bro needed me to pop to town and while I was there my computer had frozen and I lost manual worth of scans and could not bother to scan anymore yesterday as it was late.
But I'll scan something today after I get home from work.
And the cover looks good.
Do you need DKC manual scans, as those I have several so I can scan them?
I know exactly where DKC1 and DKC2 manuals are, and DKC3 should be there too.
-
I don't need one for DKC but would love one for DKC Competition Cart
-
Thank you noemann, I was waiting for this for a long time. Once you are done, can you please post it here. I really like it.
-

Sorry to burst yer bubble but I was actually asking from noemann if needs raw material for making the DKCC manual. ;)

Thanks. I had to fight to find the fonts. I finally found the last font today. whew!
now all of the text is typed. I have to finish the blockbuster logo, then clean up the Kongs and it will be ready.
I'd love to have raw scans of the manuals as i only have low res pdf copies.
However, i prefer box scans. I want to try harder to get more box scans. I intend to buy more this week/weekend.
I am about 300 boxes shy of a complete US raw scan collection.
If you have time to scan something, i'd rather that you scan new boxes.
Thanks Arseen. It is a shame that you are one of only five people that share scans with me. I hate to consistently bother you. I started buying boxes and manuals. I will have to buy more.
-
Thank you noemann, I was waiting for this for a long time. Once you are done, can you please post it here. I really like it.
of course i will post all of the covers here. I am making the covers for TCP and its members.
-
@Shenske and Arseen
I have searched Google for DKC Competition manual and i noticed that someone at nintendoage made a manual using a magazine.
I have the same magazine and i was thinking of making a manual based upon the magazine ads. I do not have a copy of the official rules booklet but i can guess what it would look like by combining a DKC manual with the magazine contents.
any thoughts?
I can make a fugly array of images to show my ideas (ransom-note style sketches LOL)
I think that one person should not design a manual for this game. I am not so haughty as to suggest that i will make one for the world. Maybe TCP members have some good ideas. let me know what ya'all have in mind ;D
-
OK concentrating on box scans.
And feel more than free to kick my butt in to gear.
Location of the 3 DKC boxes still boggles me...
-
Thanks.
No worries about the DKC boxes. I intend to purchase all three games again. Remember that about 15 years ago, my sister stole everything that i owned. Since then, I bought DKC carts for $10 per cart but i still want the boxes. I will buy them anyway.
I collect many other things so buying a cib snes collection is not possible (unless i strike it rich.)
i find it cheaper to get carts, so i prefer box/manual scans for games because i only have carts.
by the way, having a baby is going to need more of my money :)
anyway, stop thinking about scans now and enjoy your weekend. You need to relax my Friend.
Thank you for always scanning. Now go relax ;D
i will get some coffee and work some more today.
type to you later ...

But no relaxinx yet... too buzy work day tomorrow to start loosening up already today.
6PM friday is good time to start.

Is this the official name of the DKC competition cartridge, or is this a different rare variation than that?
I thought it was called, "Donkey Kong Country: Competition Cartridge" as it says on the label. BTW, I had one, but I needed the cash and sold it on eBay for $500 a few years ago. I have it as a "channel" on my Wii now.
-
I found images using Google Search. In my opinion, this persons manual looks like it is made from components of a magazine (which i have in my collection.) I notice the Rules insert and i found a small photo of it that i could use to recreate for the manual (or as a separate insert.)

Oh that's awesome find..
And yes do the Official Stuff pamphlet aswell.
-
ja, I was thinking that the Official Stuff insert should remain separate. I will recreate it along with a manual.
I suppose that i should make a fugly array of images to show some ideas. We'll have to work on manual contents.
I'll make some images this weekend and post them to get opinions.
-
Yeah separate definitely.
Too bad the text is unreadble on that image.
-
Oh and I'll PM you one thing that I don't can't say publicly.
-
Yeah separate definitely.
Too bad the text is unreadble on that image.
Easily readable - can retype the text tomorrow if needed
-

Yes the pampflet is readable, I meant the manual. ;)
I can type the text only side.
Can you read the other side? I can just and just read it (least at quick glance).
-
hmm. I need glasses, my vision is awful these days. I cannot read certain parts of the Official Stuff pamphlet. Help is appreciated!
I will start working on the pamphlet...
Thanks guys!
-
Yeah, I can read the official stuff. Will type it up tomorrow.
-
Good.
I too think I can read all the smaller parts on my screen just and just
-
Thanks Sheep! I can read the official entry form but not the backside of the pamphlet. I'm old, my vision is not so good. I need to make an appointment with an Optometrist, then get some glasses. ;D
Arseen, i forgot to mention the Yoshi's Story guide. How should i upload the finished scans? as a pdf or as images in a zip file?
-
Yeah separate definitely.
Too bad the text is unreadble on that image.
I have a copy of the magazine and it looks like it is alot of text and images from this magazine.
I cannot read the text either but it really looks like the ads in the magazine (which span across 8 pages throughout the magazine.)
I'll slap together some images and sketches and we'll discuss it this weekend or early part of next week (whenever you have free time to do so.)
-
I have plenty of free time from Saturday afternoon until Monday evening = illegal to drive drunk you know..
-
okay. I will work on it now and more this weekend.
logging off for now.
type to you later...
-
Yeah good night.
-
Here you go - there was 1 word i couldn't read - replaced with ???????. Also, the postcode in new jersey in section 1 may not be correct.
Other than that - does it REALLY say (3rd line from the bottom) that Sega is a trademark of Nintendo of America?!!??!?!

Excellent work Sheep! Thank You very much.
I believe that the text in question is Rambi. Thus, "Donkey Kong and Rambi characters"
You did a great job with this text.
One more request: I am assuming that we are making this for printing. I could some tips about sizing. At this point, I could crop the image as exact as possible, then make it three times larger but would that be okay? Any ideas about dimensions? The pamphlet looks like a standard-sized brochure but will that fit into a UGC box?
-

Rambi is what I saw too.
-
Other than that - does it REALLY say (3rd line from the bottom) that Sega is a trademark of Nintendo of America?!!??!?!
I was just discussing this with my Fiancee. What? Sega mark owned by Nintendo? Doh!
You typed it correctly so i am stumped.
-
I think it says ® SEGA. ® is a trademark of Nintendo of America.
I meant they just list all registered trademark holders (one being Sega another being Nintendo.)
-
Measuring from the screen the pampflet is made smaller than than the height of the insert = it has been made to fit the UGC.
For sizing make the manual in SNES manual size but leave enough white to the edges so it can be also cut bit smaller so it fits UGC.
-

I believe that they are trying to convey that NBA Jam T.E. is from Sega of America, Inc. It should read "all other registered trademarks" are property of Nintendo. Instead, they type in such a manner that they are implying that Sega is property of Nintendo. Very confusing. I had to read it several times to try to understand it. :)

I just cropped it as close to the priginal as possible, then multiplied by 3 to increase the size of the repro. Printing should not be a problem.
I will leave space for the manual. I want to make a prototype this weekend. I am too tired to work on manual today. I will work on the Official Stuff a little more.

Hello friends, I've been distracted with a medical emergency since Friday and I've just now had a chance to relax. All is well but I am tired and I am not able to work on this project just now. I did look at the text and I made some corrections. I just typed all of the text on the back but I need rest. I'll see what I can do this week. I still need a few days to rest and relax.

Perhaps I can get some opinions as to accuracy. I've added Rambi and corrected some typos.
I added stipulation (a) as only (b) was typed.
changed Participants prize (Including cards) to Participation prize (trading cards)
I have a magazine with some of the text and this line is in the ad.
Apparently Marvel Fleer trading cards was a prize.
changed the address zip code (also in the magazine.)

Glad all is good.
My friday was off the charts.
Only 2 people in whole town got Guinness Saint Patrick's day hats, and I was one.
We met minor movie star.
We partied until bars closed.
I was somewhat wasted.
Still no hangover.

Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering about you. Good stuff.

sorry guys, I've been very busy with Wedding preparations. Plus I've had a few medical problems since last post. I've worked on this project tonight and I hope to finish it over the weekend. I'll have the retail cover finished soon. Just letting everyone know... expect a post.
-
I'm spending some free time trying to finish old projects.
I've been very busy since I had started this project.
I'm almost finished reproducing the brochure/pamphlet.
I've finally reproduced acceptable form of the bubbles for the background:

I will update this thread when I am finished.
no time limit so please be patient...
-
Well, it's about fockin' time ;D get out the stogies and pop the champagne.
I've finished pages 1 & 4 of the pamphlet. whew!
I am satisfied with alot of the work except a few things listed below...

I have re-created everything except Donkey Kong and Rambi bg.
The pic of DK is the same one used on the DK Country Crate, which I do not own.
I found that the 5 game DKC crate has the best pic. anyone have the crate?
I am not happy about the Rambi either. But i am moving on.
I hope that you enjoy the work. Let me know how it looks if you print it.
I'll get around to typing all of the text for pages 2 and 3.
I never got a chance to do so because of the amount of work on pages 1 and 4.
enjoy! I'm off to smoke a Marlboro :P
-
Anyone still have the retail version of this cover?
-
I've finished recreating the entire pamphlet (four pages).

Alot of my projects are time consuming and I have little time to spare these days.
I decided to hammer down and finish this one as quickly as possible.
I'm happy with my work. Although, I am not satisfied with a few components of the work:
1. the Blockbuster Challenge logo is not 100% accurate. I may try a second version in the future.
2. I cannot find a copy of the K photo used on the box. The same photo is on the crate but noone here seems to have the crate.
Overall, I think that the final version here is very nice.
Usually, noone downloads my stuff so i don't bother sharing. I've posted raws that noone downloaded. Interesting.
I hope that someone will enjoy this pamphlet. Meantime, i will not be sharing stuff in the future since noone downloads it anyway.
At least I finished this project and posted it here. Hope you all have a Great Day.
Maybe now I'll go play DK Country and relax ;D

Please don't stop sharing! :o
Even if people don't download a lot, it's great to have such. High quality work available.
Besides, arseen downloads EVERYTHING, ;D

Besides, arseen downloads EVERYTHING, ;D
Oh he knows. ;)
And yes I'm in process of re-downloading stuff as I lost quite a bit unpacked-up stuff when my computers fried.
I did order a cable to check whether I can salvage stuff from them, but it has not arrived yet.
I do have access to main directories of covers from few members which helped a lot, but I anyway have to re-check buttload of topics to get all back.
Covers are easy-peasy but raw stuff I lost is bit harder to recover.
-
Besides, arseen downloads EVERYTHING,
I figured someone was. I have a hard time finding anything in my Mediafire account that doesn't have at least one download.

sorry for the delay, my Son is fussing again. The weather is hot and he is hungry. Plus he needed a diaper change. ugh.
anyway, I forgot about Arseen. I'm tired. I'll just scratch that from the record.
All work will be posted.
i suppose that i was thinking that i'm cluttering the forum with my posts and not sure anyone wants the stuff anyway.
no worries. all systems go ;D

I am always half asleep now due to a newborn Son and the weather is hot which makes it worse. my mind is a bit fuzzy now.
anyway, i'm not completely satisfied with this pamphlet, so maybe you should wait a bit.
I feel like perfecting DK, Rambi and the Blockbuster logo. I'm irritated with it. I seek a perfect mock here.
Meantime, i forgot about your pc. damn!
Remember that i have lots of scans and other things. You have my external drives as a backup too ;)
let me know if you need something. you have my email address too. just make a list and i'll zip it up for you.
if you lost the scans that i had made for you awhile ago, i can easily round 'em up for you. i have four external drives as back up drives.
I can make a list of my raws if you need me to do so. might need some time as i have alot of raws...
-
By the way, the retail cover is coming next.
plus, i'm making the uncletusk? version that Shenske? mentioned.
I also have a vertical started.
Plus, the manual is in the works for this game...
I'll be posting the rest as soon as possible.
other projects coming soon:
the Mickey poster for Arseen
Secret of Mana map restored
more retail screen captures.
a few horizontal projects that i've kept quiet about.
stay tuned...
same Bat-channel...
same Bat-time. ;D
logging off for now.
I need to finish the retail cover for DKC competition...
-
Yeah currently all that was on my computers was lost.
I'll see what I can recover after the cable comes.
One way is to create Box account or few to dump the stuff.
Box is better than Mediafire in large dumps as the free version has the download all button, where as Mediafire has it only in the paid version.
Or if all fails I'll just send you money so you can buy big enough External HDD where you can dump all stuff and send it to me. ;D
Good night.

the hdd is definitely doable. However, i would need two days to copy everything. I usually spend 1.5 days when i back it up completely. I have alot of game stuff ;) if it comes to that, then send me an email or a pm here.
meantime, i have an old box account. I need to find the login. Hopefully the account is not deleted for being inactive. I'll check it later when i have more time.
I just made dinner, ate dinner and now i will work on more projects.
just for the record: a slim 2 TB drive is as cheap as 100euro. I remember when i bought a 500 GB for 150 USD. Prices have come down since that time.
I will need another drive soon too because my Nature photos are eating up so much space. yikes!
My drives are full mostly with game data and wildlife photos. LOL
Good Night Arseen...

I remember a guy in high school with an external hard drive that held about 40 gig. He paid over $100 for it and the thing was the size of a shoe box. :o

LOL I was thinking about my old drive and it was actually 150 GB and the pricetag was $150.00 USD (i guess $1 per GB). My old drive is thick and heavy. I have to hold it with two hands. It's an old Seagate. However, it is compatible with Windows 98! Good stuff. Also, back in those days 150 GB was heaven. Now 150 GB is not enough to store my files. A few outings with the DSLR and it would be half full. I need atleast 2 TB today.
My Wife was just telling me about an 8 TB Seagate drive. I suppose this drive is in my future purchases. Atleast new drives are lighter and smaller.

okay Back to Work for me. I am recreating the Blockbuster logo for the retail cover.
The retail cover for DK Country Competition is looking Fantastic. However, i do not have good scans of DK on the vine and Diddy jumping.
I know that these images are used in the Official Players Guide from Nintendo. Anyone have this guide?
if so, please scan the images of DK swinging on the vine and Diddy jumping in the air.
Otherwise, I will have to clean the smaller images that i have on file. The cover will look great except for these images.
Back to Work now...
-
retail cover is almost finished:
I will ask again: anyone have the official Players Guide for DK Country?
I need a scan of DK swinging on the vine and the image of Diddy jumping in the air that matches this cover.
I know the two images are in the guide. I have the rmags scan but it is low quality.
if not, then i will do my best to clean DK and Diddy.
I hate to have most of the cover looking good except the main characters.
anyway, we're almost there...

I think I have it. Lemme dig through some boxes and see if I can find it.

Alright found it and scanned them, They're both on the same page but my scanner wouldn't cooperate so its 2 separate files. I hope it wont be to much trouble to get Diddy's lips out of the hat.

You are so FrE3kIn AWESOME! ;D I am most happy that you have this guide AND took time to scan it for the cover.
I will definitely finish the Secret of Mana map for you. No doubt about it Friend.
Meantime, I just woke up. I am going to get the coffee going then I will start work on the Kongs.
We shall have DK Country Competition afterall :P
Thanks again...
-
almost finished with the cover:
I had to recreate the Blockbuster logo again. I wasn't satisfied with the last version.
i am happy that we got a scan of DK and Diddy but the images are difficult to clean.
I have decided to leave the scans as they are instead of smoothing the features.
i suppose for better print quality; more details.
I will post the final version as soon as it's complete.
please be patient...
