This was brought up in the NES Cover Project thread, but I figured it would probably be better to start a formal request. I'm looking for a custom cover for Earthbound for the NES. For those who don't know, The Earthbound that appeared for the SNES is actually Earthbound 2 (Mother 2 in Japan). The reason why it lost its number is because while Earthbound for the NES was completely finished, it was unreleased due to the fact that RPGs were unpopular at the time and the SNES was just about to come out.
In 1999, someone put up a prototype copy on ebay. It was sold, and then dumped into the ROM. Since then, it has become probably the #1 most popular game to have reproductions made of. Considering the game was not released and thus no profits are being lost over it (and its not even on the vertual console either) I don't see why a cover for it can't be hosted. But before that, someone needs to make a cover. Something real simple would work - The boxart for the Japanese version Mother is simply the name MOTHER (with an earth for the o) and a red background. If someone could produce this with EARTHBOUND (again the o being the earth) that's all I need. The back should be simple enough and I'll even do that myself, as long as someone can produce a fairly decent looking cover. Thanks!
PS Since the release of the rom, some people have got the game confused. I mean afterall, there's also the famous SNES game called Earthbound. To tell them apart, demiforce romhacking added a "Zero" to the title along with some bugfixes. This is the unofficial name and I would actually prerer it wasn't used. If anyone, one should change the SNES cover to say "Earthbound 2", but I'm not going there :P)

How is this? I tried to copy the Japanese Mother Famicom cover shown on GameFaqs. Not sure what to put on the back, so I'll leave that to you.

Just realized I named the file Mother instead of EarthBound. Oh well.

Really old topic but i felt like making one too ;) I wanted to keep it simple but still add a little more than just the red. I tried to keep the gold and red theme going as much as i could. I'll probably change the font on the text for the back but i have to run to work. Have fun! ;D

Beautiful work as always! Eight Melodies now is playing in ALL our heads. One tiny problem though: you forgot to add a space between calls and upon in the back text. Just a minor correction and that cover will be completely finished.

I thought the kid in this game was named Ninten and was a different kid than in the sequel?
Also, what is the faded image on the front and back of the cover "faded" in the red? Are those real life kids?

Actually I can't really tell you if he is the same kid or not. I never really played either game but unreleased games intrigue me so I decided to make a cover based on that. The information on the back was from a variety of sites when I was researching the game. I was under the impression that Nintendo decided to change the name of the main character from Ninten (obviously for Nintendo) to Nes (Nintendo Entertainment System) so it would relate better to the western audience.
.... both characters at least look like the same kid? I'm not sure though ???
The image on the front is a scan from a magazine from a 1989 magazine article previewing Mother. I just recolored the image to make it fit with the "only red & gold" theme. They are real life kids from a commercial Ninitendo of Japan ran advertising Mother. The commercial is up on youtube

2 things.
1. Did you read any of the previous posts ... two posts higher it says you can download them on my box.net profile in my signature ::)
2. This cover is for the translated version of Mother so Earthbound is more fitting considering that is what the franchise is called in America. If I do decided to make a Mother cover it would be in japanese w/ my Famicom template.
