Title: Best genre for NES/SNES
Post by: kingjohn3 on December 02, 2013, 08:12:55 PM
Ok so we have Sim games, Strategy, Shooter, Beat Em Ups, Action, Adventure, Platform, RPG, Fighters, Sports, etc.  I would like to hear opinions on which are your favorites and why. Which ones are more collectible?  Which developer do you prefer (Konami, Capcom, Nintendo)? Best games? Worst?  Let us know

NES - Dunno, most likely platform games.
SNES - RPGs, though the SNES didn't have that many, practically all RPG releases on the SNES are great games on their own and have a hefty pricetag nowadays.

Love platformer on both nes and snes. Like guy above said, the RPGs on snes that I played were all very enjoyable.

Platformers on NES, and RPG's for SNES. Granted there were tons of great platform games on SNES, but it's the RPG's that I fondly remember.

PSX... Now that's a hard one to choose, but I guess I'd still say RPG's.

For me it's Shooters and brawlers on snes.  But really it's an all round decent machine.  Solid titles in every genre.  Sports, puzzle, RPGs, fighters, racers.  Seriously something for everyone in the snes library!

I was at one time contemplating a complete SNES collection. Since I had most of the "hard to get" games already I only needed mostly cheaper games to finish it off (except Aero Fighters and Duck Tales 2 type stuff...waaaayy out of my range). Since common sense has kicked in I've decided to only have my "Hall of Fame" collection plus whatever is considered to be the best. I can't fathom spending boatloads of money on games that will never be played or that I'm not a fan of the genre. So if y'all would be so kind please let me know some of the hidden gems that you've played that you consider to be a great game and why you think so. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what the rest of the best is. We all know the ones that are considered the best games overall but there are a few that are much lesser known with a much lower number of releases. Seems to me that those are the ones to look for for long term collectibility.

Inindo - Hidden Gem RPG for SNES. Main character is a Ninja, you get to pickup two other characters by talking to them in inns and getting them to join you, making its replay value fairly high for an RPG. Win the favor of the rulers and talk them into attacking other town in a military madness(tg-16)/warlord(gen) style battle you control. Gan enough lands and attack the Evil Nobunaga to force an epic final battle against him RPG battle style. Dd i mention Ninjas? Samurai? Magicians?

Top Gear 1, 2, and 3 - Fun pole position style racer with several catagories of car upgrades to buy including weapons! "Twisted Pole Tourismo"

Its on so many systems, but Rampart is highly addictive. In a timed preperation round build castle wall with tetris pieces and put cannons in them. Build your castle big enough to encompass more nearby castles and increase your number of cannons. You can use the cannons after the timed tetris bulding round to kill oncoming attackers.

If anyone has not played these I hope my descriptions were enticing enough to give it a try.

I would think platformers on both. However, my personal preference for the SNES has always been beat 'em ups.

Check this out for hidden gems of most of the older systems: http://www.racketboy.com/guide/hidden-gems I've found so many great games using these guides. There is also games under $10 on that site that has helped a lot.
