Title: Today I'm Thankful For...
Post by: Aton7 on November 28, 2013, 01:58:42 PM
I know none of you knew, but it's Thanksgiving today. We're all thankful for our families, friends, and other blessings...but what about games? Post the game that you are most thankful that you discovered and got to play. Maybe the game that got you into collecting or just your favorite game.

Mine would have to be Ocarina of Time. I just played and beat it this year for the first time, and it lived up to and exceeded all of the reviews and expectations. It felt more like an experience than a game if that makes any sense.

Now post up, and Happy Thanksgiving to everybody!

A Link to the Past ... I have so many memories of that game. I played it in nearly every stages of my life.

There are so many game related things that I'm thankful at the moment that it's impossible to list them all.

Here are few:
- Super Mario games up to Super Mario 64 (including all NES and SNES hacks).
- Zelda games up to Majora's Mask (including all NES and SNES hacks).
- This site for great covers.
- Certain members that do the covers.
- Certain members that do other game related stuff (Zeanhaven and Wiggy at the top of the list currently).
- FritzWhite for the thing he send me that arrived today. BIG THANK YOU FOR THE PLEASANT SURPRISE!!!

I knew it was thanksgiving.  Just had a French conversation evening, and Made turkey and cranberry  hors d'oevres, and mini pecan pies.

I guess I'm most glad, that my big sister bought an Atari 2600 when I was  about 9 years old -  if it wasn't for that, I'm not sure I would have been exposed to gaming in my younger years.

I'm thankful, in a weird sort of way, for all my friends who weren't as into gaming as me.

They often gave me their old things as they moved on to the next generation, and sure, I was getting hand-me-downs, but those hand-me-downs gave me my first Game Boy, my NES, introduced me to Final Fantasy, and many other things.

So I guess it comes around to generosity - they were being far more generous than they knew, and I have benefited from it more than I would have thought.

Off to spend the rest of the day with my family - Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!

I'm thankful that I didn't have to kill anyone at Wal-Mart today.  :P

EDIT:

I'm also thankful that Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is such a great game. I'm sad that all's that I have left to do though is get 2 more heart containers and go through the Dark Palace. Then I will have mastered the game...

Which brings me back to being thankful that I have the wonderful game of Animal Crossing New Leaf to go back to.

EDIT AGAIN!!:

I'm thankful that Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was a great game.

I think for me it would be Halo 1 and 2. Not because they're exceptional games, though they were for their time, but because of many fond memories of playing with friends that have since passed away.

Dragon Warrior - NES (Nintendo Power FREE game) - This changed how I looked at games entirely.
Another vote for a Link to the Past. If you play this game and don't like, please go back to listening Nickelback and don't bother anyone.
Sega Dreamcast - thanks for being a solid gaming machine 14 years Later, Im sorry people neglected you in 2000.
^-> Also introduced me to Emulators on consoles, and Taught me a great deal on multi-track burning sessions
Original XBox - You had me at Hay-lo (Halo), and being able to play every other system before your gen
Ducktales, original, 2, or HD remastered - I hear a note of that opening music and im giddy like a school girl

I gotta thank Super Mario World. It's the first game I played and it continues to be my favorite game to this day. But I feel I should also thank GTA III and Ninja Gaiden II for reviving my interest in video games during the 6th and 7th generations.

I am thankful I have eyes and ears to enjoy videogames. And I am thankful my grandma bought me a NES when I was 4 years old because that's when it started :)

Vid Game related:

Super Mario Bros.

My Grandparents bough an NES for the grand kids to play when they came over and I was the first one to try it out.  Mario blew my mind and I was addicted to games ever since

Super Mario World

My mom rented me an SNES when it came out and it as soon as I turned it on and saw the opening sequence to SMW I was blown away by the jump in graphics

Final Fantasy II / IV

I rented and beat Turtles in Time in one sitting so I went back to the store and they let me exchange it for another game ... I saw Final Fantasy II and decided to try it out.  My love affair with RPGs started that day

In general I'm thankful that I'm healthy for the most part.

I suffered a concussion about 9 months ago and while some symptoms still linger I can tell that I am finally starting to get better.  The headaches, dizziness, anxiety, and depression were almost unbearable at first, however, I have learned to adapt, was able to keep working full time, and most importantly, realize that I'm very lucky compared to many others and feeling sorry for myself was getting me nowhere.

Taking the time to realize that I'm lucky in that I can hear, see, have all my limbs, a stable job, a loving wife, family, and friends have really helped so I'd say that's what I'm thankful for.

Edit:  This Ted talk was very inspirational and helped me with my recovery.  I highly recommend to anyone who is going through any sort of health issue.
