Shenske's Projects & Thoughts
The random Mega-Thread of all the random things i think of!

Anyone tired of 100 nonsense threads by one person? Well i don't really want to be "that guy" so i decided to combine all of my random thoughts into one mega-thread. I really don't want all of the most recent forum topics to consists of every little things that pops up in my head. This thread will have anything from sports topics to little side projects i'm working on outside of cover-making. Narcissistic? Well perhaps ... but at least its only one thread that you have to ignore ;)

I'm sure there will be quite a few topics that people will enjoy reading or may have the answer to my random woe.  Hope you guys like the all the random banter and topics :D

Here is my original random post that started this thread:

18 and 1
!!!  Heck Yes   !!!
the patriots are NOT undefeated!!!

 ;D ;D  gotta love those mannings  ;D ;D

yes, boston doesn't have all the best sports teams

yeah, i'm kinda glad they didnt win either. one team winning all year makes it rather boring. its much more interesting when the underdog that everyone wrote off wins.

Yes, nothing better than watching a bunch of arrogant jerks get it handed to 'em!  All hail Plaxico Burress!!!!!!

I was torn between wanting to see 19-0 and wanting to see the underdog that is the Giants swoop in and defeat the "giant". I am glad the Giants won though, was a good ending to an amazing season.

I was hoping the Patriots would win and then disappear for a few years. I am pretty tired of hearing about Miami's undefeated season and would be curious to see what would happen to the local Shula's steakhouse if their claim to fame has been one upped.

I'm not very much into football. I watched the first three quarters. After that I was too bored to keep watching so I did my homework. >___<

xkcd is such a great webcomic.

the 4th quarter was so intense!

Superbowl XLII is honestly one of the best games i have ever seen, along with the AFC championship game comeback last year (Colts - down by 21 vs. Patriots)

The giants had one of the worst records of any team in the post season and the tore down the undefeated patriots.
(its was so sweet so Brady on his ass so much  ;D )

i didn't feel like wasting space and making another thread so i though i'd just rename this one  :)

anyways ...

i never thought it would happen to me, i play my 360 alomost everyday.
i've been really busy over the past 4 days and i thought this was the time i could finally play a little 360.

i take really good care of it and midgame ... RED RING OF DEATH
(thank god i'm still in warranty)
Title: Re: RANDOM things i feel like talking about
Post by: Ragnarok2103 on May 18, 2008, 10:41:07 PM
dude, that sucks. so far i've been fortunate to not have that problem, but i will someday. i read in a few places that 360s have a 100% failure rate, and its not a question of if it will, but when it'll red ring.
knowing my luck, mine will last just long enough for all three of the warranties i have on it to expire, then it'll brick.

Of all the people i know with 360's only one is still on the original machine.I had a launch day machine that went belly-up,sent it off to MS,and when it came back it had an intermittent DVD read fault.Mid game and up comes the "dirty disc " dialogue. >:(

One of the main reasons I don't have a 360. Another reason is that I might be a total cheapass.
Title: Re: RANDOM things i feel like talking about
Post by: KaiserWAVE on May 19, 2008, 09:24:02 AM
From 5 people I know (including me) only one had the red ring. It was a launch unit. Mine is going to have its 2nd birthday this October so I have still 1 1/2 years of warranty left :)

Oh and Doom, the cheapass argument is not a strong one anymore :) At least in Europe the Xbox with the 20gig HDD costs as much as a Wii. Considering what you get for the money I guess nobody can complain. Oh, and not to forget we could play some co-op games without having to mess with the freaking friend codes :)

Yeah..they are a reasonable price now. While mine was in the repair shop, i bought another one.(Mind...that was last year, they were not so cheap then)

When I say I'm a cheapass, I mean I'm a CHEAPASS! I don't even have a PS2 of my own yet! (currently mooching off of my brother)

PS2: ~$130 for system
PS2: ~$5-$25 for most games, including many good games
360: ~$300 for bastardizes system with no hard drive, ~$400 for the system that is actually usable
360: ~$20-$60 for most games, good games are hard to find for uber cheap

I'm getting a PS2 way before a 360. And I'm not getting a PS2 for a while.

Does anyone know of any image hosting sites that do not downscale the dpi and you are still able to view the images before downloading?
(i have been using filefront but you can't preview the images before download)

FYI: i would be using it for my "unofficial" covers that can't be hosted on the site.

Update ANSWER: Box.net is the best for this!

Unofficial? As in custom covers? Aren't they allowed here?

Lucky me I got my ps2 used back toward the end of february. I swear this is the best time to buy a ps2. The system's still widely available, nearly every place you go has games, they're all cheap, and nearly all of the worthwhile ones are still fairly easy to find. I've been thoroughly enjoying my system since I got it.

Plus, it makes a good replacement for my old, barely working ps1.

@Akumu: He means covers for emulated games, etc.

And I don't know of any sites like that Shenske. You could always upload a downscaled preview image into photobucket or something and have the image link to the filefront download.

I reformat almost all of my ps1 covers, just to guarantee uniformity. I'm going to guess that you have those Dreamcast FF covers in there?

I know what you mean by cheap, I've been mooching for as long as I've been gaming. Every single console i own i got as a handout:

PS2: Friend thought it was broken
Xbox: Cousin doesn't play games
Gamecube: Friend bought a Wii and didn't need it.
PSP: Sony rewards card (mom uses it to pay private school tuition) also the only reason i have Crisis Core
N64: Well I paid $10 for it. But it was from a friend who had two.

I thought you can get a PS2 for around $90, but then again I'm a retail-only shopper. Worthwhile investment if you can't afford a PS3. Then again it's hard to find one with backwards compatability these days  :-\

EDIT: DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! "mooching" not "modchipping"
----
I pirate occasionally, but unlike with most music sales, game sales DO directly influence the people who made the game. If I have to open up a console to mod it I won't do it because I suck at that stuff and hiring someone else to do it is expensive, in addition to supporting the developers. I buy games when they are good, meaning I read reviews and if I can pirate it beforehand to play the first few levels that's just icing on the cake. With the Phoenix Wright 1-3 games, CAPCOM had this stupid idea of completely translating the Japanese version into English for the Japanese release so they were dual language games. And the second and third game came out MONTHS later than the Japanese versions, despite the game being completely translated. In that case I downloaded the games onto my R4 and bought them when they FINALLY did come out.

That's another thing. I bought my R4 for convenience, not piracy. Although I'm not getting a new DS to replace my old one for a loooong time, when it worked all of the games on my R4 were either games that I owned, or the DS download stations, which are a lot of fun in a big group. Also, on DS units that stores had set to "autoplay" you could hold start at the right time and it would boot to the menu like normal. From there I'd open up download play and give the store's demo DS a better demo! :D

And I'm getting a new PS2 9000 series (I like to call it a PS2 slimerer) before New Years. If there's no price drop by then I'll at least have the newer model.
Title: Re: RANDOM things i feel like talking about
Post by: AppleQueso on July 31, 2008, 02:52:18 PM
My slim ps2 is actually "softmodded" because the lid wasn't pressing down the 2nd sensor properly. It wasn't until after I did that that I realized I could play burned ps1 games. I only ever burned two discs though, just to see if it would work.

The only way I could see myself "modchipping" my ps2 to play games would be for imports really.

And personally, I'm not going to bother with the 9000 series. My slim ps2 works amazingly, I have no need to replace it.

To everyone at TCP,

Untill further notice i will not be making any more covers.  Its been great here and all but recent major news in my life have mad me realize that i need to prioritize all aspects of my life.  I'm also considering selling all videogames i own and putting focus on more important things in my life.

this news has nothing to do with the cover project as i still think it is the best community of gamers and cover makers.
in time i'll upload all my WIP psds somewhere and leave a link. so long

To everyone at TCP,

Thank you for your support, i really appreciate it.  :)

I was a little caught in the moment yesterday.  What i wrote  was within minutes of reading a letter that i know will change my life.  (FYI - no one died.  no one is pregnant - that is impossible as I'm 'pure by choice').  I thought i should clarify things a little. I have had a more time to think things over.

When i mentioned i need to "prioritize things in my life" i meant it in a spiritual way.  My life needs to revolve around God not just God being a part of my life.  I don't know what God's plan is for me but i think my obsession with videogames has got in the way of further seeking his plan.

I don't know if i will indeed sell all of my videogames and their respective consoles (~1000 games & ~25 consoles) but i will sell the majority.  I will let you guys here know what my plan is with selling those.  The NES, SMS, GEN, 32X, Saturn, SegaCD games should go for sure though.

I have decided to not leave The Cover Project but my contributions will be small.  My time needs to be in spiritual reflection right now until i figure out everything.  Its going to be really hard not to make covers with my free time, but that free time should be concentrated elsewhere.

I currently have some covers I completed yesterday (before the letter) that i will put up in the next few days.  Hopefully i can make some larger contributions in the future but for right now I will be taking a little break.

Thanks Guys,

- Shenske

P.S. - Please do not ask about the contents of the letter i recieved, if you do i'll delete your post

Shenske,

Your work is amazing.  Its is great news that you plan to stay here (even if its on a limited basis).

You must go where God is guiding you.  But think long and hard reference getting rid of your collection.. At one time I had 630 games across manny beautiful systems.  For purely finacial reasons I sold 98% of them (including Panzer Dragoon Saga, Bonks 3 CD, etc.).  I still regret it.  I currently own 573 and working my way back to that 630 plus number.  Instead of US Saturn Games I know collect almost 100% JP import Games.  I have managed to make it better this time.  But I still will miss my Mint Saturn collection in Large Uncracked Cases.

I wish you lots of luck and manny blessings as you work though your decision.

Thought i might give a little update.

This fall (2009) to next summer (2010)  i will be very very busy with my RCIA classes for church and all cover contributions will be a bare minimum (so much less than now).

I still do plan on selling a large majority of my games, mostly classic games.  The only thing is i won't be selling them for quite some time.  Most of my Nintendo games for example are actually appreciating in value so i'm going to hold onto them untill at least after i graduate (2.5 years ... hopefully  ;))  I'll let you guys know if i start to sell them anytime earlier than that.

In other news ...
I had to format my computer today, such a pain.  I still have all my covers and covermaking files.  It will just be a while before i get everyhting up and running again.  (I need to reinstall all my programs and reorganize many of my files)

I purchased a 60gb PS3 today too, now i can play LittleBigPlanet and MGS4  :)

Congratulations on setting and acquiring new goals, Shenske.  This is obviously something you've given a lot of though into, and again I wish you all the best.

I've certainly appreciated all the work you've done for me, but moreover the site as a whole.  I certainly appreciate the update myself, but I hope you're not doing any covers out of obligation, even while you're taking classes.

Also, add me to your PSN list, my PSN ID is Conral and is in that online thread.  I have LBP and MGS4, among others.

Title: Hardcore Gamer?

Hardcore Gamer?

When is a person considered a hardcore gamer?
Sure i like to play videogames when i get some spare time here and there but does that make you a hardcore Gamer?

I have ~1000 games on ~30 systems but i still consider myself a "casual gamer".  I usually play about every other day for about an hour.  Do you guys think its the time you put into playing games or the # of games you own defines what kind of gamer you are?

opinions?
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts
Post by: sorwah on February 04, 2009, 01:42:27 AM
I feel it's the time put in. Someone who spends 8+ hours a day playing games I call Hardcore. Someone who owns 1000+ games and 25+ systems I call a collector.
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts
Post by: sheep2001 on February 04, 2009, 03:12:45 AM
I agree - i call myself a collector, and a casual gamer.  As a kid i was probably a pretty hardcore gamer, but I now only play maybe twice a week for an hour or 2.

I still enjoy collecting though - and that takes up more space than time.  ;D
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts
Post by: Grumbleduke on February 04, 2009, 05:43:01 AM
i agree 2. I spend more time collecting and covering than i do playing nowadays. Its the guys who spend all day on Ninja Gaiden etc who are hardcore (they would have to be!!)
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts
Post by: KaiserWAVE on February 04, 2009, 09:13:09 AM
I'd consider myself a hardcore gamer. Gaming is where a good chunk of my money goes every month. I usually play every day, be it at home on Wii, 360 etc. or on my cell phone when I'm on the bus on my way to and from work.

I check gaming sites several times a day for any updates, try to read gaming related news or features as much as I can. When I listen to music I play air guitar and think "that would be fun to play in rock band" :) Microsoft made me an achievement whore which adds to my motivation to play through games multiple times.

So all in all, while I'm also a collector, and the majority of my newly acquired Xbox (the original one) library is yet unplayed I'd say I'm a hardcore gamer.

I'm on a two weeks' leave and I think I'll play through some of my backlog since Febuary and March are quite filled with new releases that I have cast an eye at ;)

Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts

I don't think being a hardcore gamer has anything to do with the amount of time you put into gaming. You can be a hardcore gamer and still have a full-time job and social life.

Whether you are a hardcore gamer or not depends on the types of games you play, at least where I come from. Are you into 2D Fighters/Technical 3D Fighters, Mario Bros.-style 2D Platformers, RPGs (Tactical, Japanese or Western), or Shmups? Then you are probably a hardcore gamer.

A casual gamer is one who sticks to the easy-to-understand, don't-spend-time-on-it type of games. First-Person Shooters, Mario 64-style 3D Platformers, Mobile Puzzle Games, and any Wii game that thrives based on how much waggle is involved: those are the casual games.

A hardcore gamer can play casual games and still be hardcore. A casual gamer can not play hardcore games and still be casual.

Of course, if a gamer puts too much time into a 'in-between' game, then they'd be hardcore. If you just play an FPS or Fighter online for the fun of it, your a casual gamer. If you play those same games with a close watch on your Win/Lose ratio and consider making a brand new account if you have a bad day, you'd be hardcore. Play "I Love Rock & Roll" on Easy? I'd question whether you've even seen a video game outside of your iPhone. Play "Through The Fire And Flames" on Expert? I'd question whether you've every seen the outside world.

So, maybe it's just a mental thing.

Anyway, I consider myself hardcore, with a casual attitude. I don't care (too much) about Win/Lose ratios or getting 100% achievements/trophies, but I still play shmups, Tactical RPGs, 2D Fighters and other genres that Father Time has left in the dust. I also take gaming very seriously, wanting it to be as aesthetically pleasing and immersible as possible.

C'mon, I come to this site, don't I? I'd say that any gamer who actually prints covers out for their games on quality print paper and goes out of their way to get cases for games so that their games can look really great on their shelves has far crossed over the line into hardcore country. Most gamers I know just keep their CD-based games in CD Folders and their cartridge-based games in boxes. Probably in the attic/basement.

Everything you just said I wouldn't call a hardcore gamer. I would call them an enthusiast - which is what I believe I am.

Well all things considered, the term "Hardcore Gamer" is pretty synonymous with "Enthusiast Gamer" if you ask me. However I suppose that if you really wanted to separate them you could say that "Hardcore Gamers" tend to be elitist and look down on "Casuals".

I would consider myself an enthusiast then if we are to make such a distinction, as generally, I don't see any reason to look down on people who simply don't have the same amount of passion that I do for my hobby.

However, insult the classics and you're likely to get my blood boiling  :)

Honestly, Casual Gamers look down on Hardcore Gamers too. Or at the very least, dislike them.

For example, if everyone is playing Guitar Hero on Easy, then you get a turn and play on Hard, you'll probably be called a showoff by all but your family/close-friends. Sure, some people do that to show off, but sometimes I just wanna have fun. Once you've played GH on Hard, going to Easy is like... switching to a tricycle after being on a dirt bike.

The reason a lot of hardcore gamers consider casual games inferior is because, in many cases, they are. It's a problem when the hardcore can't recognize when a casual game is brilliant. Boom Blox is as casual as they come, but it's still a good game. Casual gaming has become so mediocre and copy-paste due to the Wii's success that all casual games are being lumped in with Carnival Games: Mini Golf and Wacky Races. When the next Tetris does hit, no one is going to know it. The hardcore will dismiss it immediately because it's "just another casual game", while casual gamers will be confused by the sea of options that they won't see the best of the best. Even reviewers, at this point, can't cover the massive flood of casual games (Can't remember the article, but I remember reading recently that magazines have to "pick and choose" what to cover each month, just because there are too many things to cover), making it even more likely  that gems will be forever lost.

As far as I'm concerned, a hardcore gamer doesn't have to be an elitist. Elitism is an entirely different area. I'm sure there are tons of casual gamers that look at hardcore gamers, playing their silly technical fighters, ancient space ship games and menu-based adventure books on TV and thinking "What a bunch of nerds."

I remember playing Rock Band 2. I had my skills up to Medium. I kept auto-joining into this one guitarist's band. After 5 minutes of idling, we went into the stage/song select. He chose Expert, I chose medium. He immediately backs out to the lobby and boots me.

Pfft.

eh, I'm not much for naming myself, but I guess I could fit in with the hardcore crowd. I love collecting games, completing them, and paying them over and over if I think they deserve it :P
Time investment doesn't matter much, I'm at school about 10 hours a day, so I don't have much time, but it doesn't stop me from being hardcore. Check out my signature if you want proof of the amount of games I play.

For Rock Band/Guitar Hero, I find it kind of hard to play anything lower than expert because I'm so used to playing the actual notes for a song, especially with drums. (unless someone pulls something like "visions" out, then I'll bump down to hard again :P)

I won't purchase a GH/RB game out of principle. All that money for something that doesn't cost near that much to manufacture I would think. Thus, I can do okay at best (maybe normal) only because of my general musical experience.

However, anywhere there is DDR, (I pronounce it "du-durrr" :P) I make an ass of myself. Anyone playing DDR well and most people playing GH/RB well seem to always look like assholes, myself included. As annoying as it is to me when I lose in CoD or Halo or an equally shitty FPS, games like that where all of the attention is usually focused on one or a few people make people seem like dicks very easily.
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts
Post by: the7k on February 07, 2009, 12:35:59 AM
Yeah, all the GH/RB analogies I use is simply because it is such an over-exposed series. Guitar Hero stopped being fun after GHII, and Rock Band only brought it back to the fun times for a while before I got tired of pulling the set out for yet another fret-fest.

At this point, I'd just much rather play Audio Surf. Maybe that new Amplitude their working on for PSN'll be worth checking out too, but the whole peripheral-based music genre is kinda being beat with a dead horse.

I for one love Rock Band. It's really one of the best games I've ever played. I agree with you on GH though. I bought GH3 because I liked the tracklist but the balancing is way off. I had no problem playing through the game until "One" and "Raining Blood". Couldn't even beat them on hard. You would have to be a freaking octopus to get through the solo or the mosh part of these songs. Also the achievements suck. Playing through hard with a standard 360 controller? Are you kidding me?

Ever since Neversoft took over the GH series they always screw it up. I gave GH World Tour a chance. It's a fun game, has a good tracklist, too. But the same brick wall problem. The game's got no learning curve whatsoever. Instead of getting harder with time it just stays the same and then at the end comes a song and BAM you hit a brick wall because it's way harder than anything you played before.

I was going through the expert bass career. To my surprise it was REALLY easy. Just a few songs that I didn't 5*'ed on my first try. Enter B.Y.O.B. and I'm screwed. As if they turn up the difficulty from 1 to 10 in an instant. Just can't beat the song. Since I'm the achievement whore that I am I thought, ok, I'll go through expert vocals then. Same story here. Whose bright idea was it to let you sing a LIVE version of a Jimmy Hendrix song? He's probably high on acid while he sings it and the pitch is all over the place. Can't even make it further than 30secs into the song until I fail.

I'm looking forward to GH: Metallica (mainly because I hope they bundle it with a wireless X-Plorer) and I pray that they get the balancing right for once that I can play through it on hard at least since medium just isn't any fun anymore.

rant over :)

But as far as GH/Rock Band players being hardcore... I have a few friends who bought either one of these games and they play on medium all the time and have a blast. They don't even want to play higher difficulties. The people online, however, are very protective and nerdy. I can't count how many times someone quit on me because they were losing. Like losing in a ranked match is like losing a limb *sigh*

I think being hardcore or casual (if you want to seperate these two in the first place) depends on how much room you give gaming in your life. Most casual players just play to relax. Or with friends or at parties. They just want to have a good time for an hour or so and then do something else. A hardcore player is likely to ramp up the difficulty, playing for hours at a time, trying to get the most out of a game until it's done. Whether it be going for achievements or a secret or extended ending that you only get on the higher difficulties. Playing the game for a second or third time just to see everything. A casual gamer wouldn't do that. If they play a game that has a story to begin with and not some shovelware or mini game collection they are more than likely done with it after their first playthrough.
Whereas the common Resident Evil fan is likely to play through the game several times. If you got 4th Survivor on Resi 2 you're hardcore, if you got Tofu, payed through Resi1 in under 3 hours or are a 7-day survivor at Dead Rising, you're my hero :D
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts

One easy way to tell casual from hardcore is how much attention they pay to reviews and news. If someone only buys games if they have a fancy commercial or a friend recommended it, they're obviously a casual. But if someone researches a game thoroughly before dropping $20-60 bones on it, they are more likely to be hardcore. That's certainly not the only qualifier, but it's a possible one. I do find however that casuals tend to be much more forgiving in terms of game quality than hardcores.

The main reason I don't like guitar hero (after Neversoft become dev) is because they don't even put the song notes right. Half of Harmonix's staff has been or is in a band. The expert difficulty has a 1:1 ratio of notes to frets. In other words, every time you have to strum a fret it's at the same time a note would play in the song. In Neversoft's Guitar Hero they just add more frets to areas where there aren't even notes to make it harder.

I consider myself a Collector and moderate player.

I play my games every weekday on breaks at work (DS or PSP)
Then come home to play 360 or watch TV....

My little brother I consider to be in the "Hardcore" Catagory.

He plays his games for 9/10ths of his waking hours.

He gets 1000 / 1000 Achievements on all almost the games he plays.

If you give him a game, he will beat it...probably because of no cash to buy more.

He played through Twilight Princess with 3 hearts and Didn't die once.

He used Action Replay to change ALL the enemies he could to the Big Armored Guys that you
need  to "break" away the armor of.

People that will take a game and get all 1000 achievement points, almost no matter what the
 game, I think are hardcore.

oh, and If you guys want a piece of crap Band game... try Rock Revolution. I received and Returned
this one in the same day from Gamefly

Sadly, it DID have a good music list. (Newer rock)

Don't get me wrong, Kaizer, Rock Band is a good game, it's just that I have played so much of it. It got to a point where every week end, either friends would come to my place to play it or I'd go over to a friend's place and then they'd wanna play it.

About a month ago I went over to a friends place and they wanted to play Rock Band 2 for old times sake. Even with the new tracks they downloaded and everything, I just pulled out my DS and played some Neo Geo roms until they finished. I recognize it's a good game (much better than the 'strawberry milk' Guitar Hero has become), I'm just burnt out.

Hardcore gamer is hard to define, mainly because there are so many variations. I'd say Timstuff is on to something, hardcore gamers put more thought into gaming than anyone else does. Reading reviews has something to do with that, but so does reading gaming news, tutorials on making your gaming experience better and finding out the best places to hide in your FPS of choice.

I just suffered a virus a couple of days ago. As soon as I put XP back on (just so I could play games; I use Ubuntu for everything else), the first few sites I bookmarked were this one, Kotaku and Racketboy. I'd say that alone pretty much cements my hardcore-gamer-ness.

As you guys can probably tell i don't really like making new threads.  This really should go to the gallery but its just one picture.
I really don't want 15 small threads with random stuff from me so here goes.

My living room:

The picture is fuzzy because it was taken with my phone.
Not pictured PS2, PSP, GBA, GBAsp, GBAmicro, NDSlite & any duplicate systems (DC, PSX, PSP)... these ones are in my room
Just about all the games are in my room on a shelf or in boxes in my closet.

This is just to give you guys an idea of my set up, more pictures if you guys would like to see them.  :)

EDIT: Random stuff
Yes i know i need a bigger TV, the stand makes it look small. I bought that TV 8 years ago and it has served me well.
In the upper righthand corner is the jersey of Ian Gold.  There are jersey and posters all over my apartment from Denver and Colorado teams

... and Go Broncos  ;D

I'm going the custom route on them. I think i'm going to rework the back and have it include the product key (removed for the site though). I'm also going to add a top banner for them with the pc template.

I also have Warcraft I & II so I might do something there so all the spines match up. I already have all the necessary wallpapers and scans I need.

Its Official Woo-Hoo!  Remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver!

Quote from: 1up.com
Pokemon Gold/Silver Remakes Confirmed for Japan
"Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver" for DS later this year.
By Ray Barnholt, 05/08/2009

After some not-so-coy suggestions on Japanese variety show Pokemon Sunday last week, the speculation has now ended: Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver, the second-generation editions of Nintendo's infectious creature-collecting RPG, are being remade for the Nintendo DS, ten years after the originals. Rechristened "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver," the game(s) will debut in Japan this fall.
The announcement comes from a page on the official Japanese Pokemon site. Nothing of much substance is there, though, except the two logos you see on the right. No solid release date besides "Fall" was revealed. More substantial information is expected to follow in future editions of CoroCoro Comic, the Japanese manga magazine that features Pokemon stories and keeps fans updated with the biggest news in the franchise.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver follow in the footsteps of Pokemon LeafGreen and FireRed, the Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Pokemon games. Although they looked and played much better than they did on the comparatively clunky original Game Boy, diehard Pokemon fans saw them as a great way to collect all those first-generation Pokemon to beef up their Pokedex even further. Naturally, the return of Gold and Silver's roster will serve the same purpose, and we'll bet the rest of the game will offer a few new wrinkles to the constantly revised feature set that keeps the series everlasting.

I need to go make a reserve at Gamestop soon  ;D

As for Gold and Silver, I'll definitely be picking one up on account that the save battery for my Gold is shot. One thing I wonder is why they don't just release Crystal and be done with it. Silly Nintendo and their marketing schemes...

when I click that link it brings me to my own box account (all files page), or the log in page if Im not logged in.  :-\

I think you need to make a folder, then put all the files/folders you want to share inside it, and get a share link for the main folder. I don't think you can share the entire 'box', just individual files/folders in it (though I haven't messed around much with my own box yet)

 ;D I'm Moving!  ;D

Just giving everyone a little heads up on my cover making and processing.  I am in the midst of moving about 30 miles from where i currently live. With moving, class and work i haven't really been able to work on that many cover lately and likely wont be able to for at least a few weeks.  I look forward to being situated in my new house and get back to business  ;)

Haha, not quite. Its about the same space i have now but i get to live by myself! I'd have to get at least 5 more full size shelves (on top of the 3 i already have) in order to display everything i have. I'll see what i can do  :)

Is this your first house all to your self?

just curious, cause i recently got a house (first time without roomates and stuff) and the best part is truly the amount of space i can dedicate to games movies and comics. rooms that shouls never have any of the three, and no one to complain .... except occansionally when the parents come to visit.

best of luck on the move

If I ever get my own house in the future, I want to cut a hole in the wall just so my collection can recess into it, giving me more floorspace. That's gonna take some planning though. Shame my mom doesn't approve of such a thing, cause my Dad built this house many years ago and we could find the perfect spot for it. Eh, I'll be out of the house by next year anyway :P

Moving into my own place was amazing and allowed me to have an entire room dedicated to Retro. Luckily my wife enjoys the 80s as much as I do so the Retro Room stays.

I'd love to have my own place. My biggest problem is finding a place that allows animals around here because my dog and I can't live without each other. I also don't like the state I live in (Illinois). My boyfriend lives in Alabama, which is a much better place from what I've seen of it. I really don't want to move and then move again shortly after, but at the same time it wouldn't be smart to move to a whole new state right off the bat.

I'm in Miami and I own my place so I can have my dogs. Alabama is a great place if you like the country. If you live in somewhere like Chicago and you are going to a small town in Alabama prepare for a culture shock once you are living out here, visiting is a different story. My cousin tried moving from NW Indiana to Kentucky and it was too much for him to the point that he moved back in less than a year.

I've moved all around and I can say that I personally like the country way better but I also don't want snow.

my house has two living rooms, got one for an old CRT with DC, SNES, Genesis, NES, GCN and PSOne hooked up, and a second with all the HD stuff. its pretty sick, and all my game shelves are in the dining room, cause its the only room with enough space. :P

All of my cart based systems are in my Retro Room. The disc based besides the current generation is in my bedroom and the new systems are in the family room along with my MAME arcade cabinet. Of course now that I have the SNES Kiosk it's moved into the dining room and I've convinced the wife to allow me to put a bookshelf there.

TikTekTak has the largest collection on the website to my knowledge, mine probably ranks in the top ten. Truth be told I've never really had a space large enough to showcase all my games. I'm in the process of packing all my games up right now for my new place. I'll be moving there in July and I should definatley have enough room for everything this time around. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures when I'm situated there.

As I do appreciate g0sub's idea for the cassette cases, the bottom bar would take away too much of a focal point (IMO) on the cases, which is one reason I ended up deleting it from my final idea.  My thought and question for you Shenske (as I felt this would be the best place to ask it) would be could you (if you still have the PDF's for these covers) add your custom background to these unfinished covers.  If you don't have the PDF's anymore, that is quite alright.  Never hurts to ask =D

I don't delete any of the PSD's for my covers. I can look through them when i'm at a stronger internet connection and give you the background images to do with as you please.  I'm moving over the next few days so shoot me a PM reminding me in about a week if you don't see anything by then.  What are you doing messing around with the cassette cases anyway? You have access to DS cases right?

I've realized that there are two models of cassette cases: One with "round" edges and another with "square" edges (hope you understand what I mean). In the first type, the cartridges fit with a bit of pressure (this will destroy the cover with use), while in the second, they fit perfectly.
I've seen on eBay that some people sell pinless cassette cases, but I've none of this kind to check how a cartridge fits in it. Could anybody help me, please?
Thanks in advance.

Back to "my thoughts" ...haha. Well anyways I have some excellent news. As some of you may know I work for a very large video game retailer and they decided to send me to a Sony conference down in Denver. I got a card from the Sony representative at the conference and they told me I'd get a special reward for entering it online. I  entered it and filled out a bunch of surveys and they decided to give me A FREE PS3!!! I thought my reward was going to be a free copy of Sports Champions or something. I wasn't expecting anything this awesome!!!

I got this news a few days ago but I'm still in a good mood from the news and thought I'd share that with you guys. I'm pretty stoked I don't have to shell out another $300 to get myself another PS3.

His responcibilty among other things is game department, and he get to participate at parties Microsoft holds every two months or so (can't tell what goes on there, as kids read these boards too...  ;)).
He also gets employee diascount of 25% from the store, and sometimes let's me use it too.

Well this is fun ... my only computer i have may have crashed. It happens right before I had to go to work so I was unable to check anything on it. Hopefully everything is recoverable and I dont have to get a new computer. I may be out of covermaking for a while if I don't have an operable computer. Even if my hdd is completely gone I won't leave the project though :)

Well it seems my worse fear may have come true. It would appear that the cover making machine (my laptop) is officially dead. This is absolutely terrible new for me since I by no means have the funds currently to get another computer. Every cover I have ever made was on that computer. Any of the new covers I previewed in the forums but is not on the site is also on there. I don't know if the files on my hdd are recoverable or not but I won't be able to do anything with them even if they are fine.

It's a little depressing that I can't contribute to the site not because of lack of time but because I don't have the tools to do so. I don't know what to do currently and it may be a LONG time before I can get back in the game here. I really don't want to stop making cover (in fact it's driving me crazy not doing it) but I don't have a whole lot of options right now. If only I could covers on my iPhone ... well that wold be a pain in the ass but I would do it if i had to.

I have no intention of leaving the forums but I won't have the same type of presence here :(

you can probably get an external hard drive enclosure for your laptops hard drive as long as it is the laptop itself that crashed and not the Hdd.  I did the same for my father in-law...then I erased everything and now have a 250gb ps3 as opposed to the original 80gb :)

Try for the external enclosure.  Less than 10 bucks off eBay. Then its just a matter of attaching it to a pc that does work.
Title: Re: Shenske's Thoughts

I hate saying it, but make backups regularly. Please.

It's really not that easy. I have been trying to save up for an external drive for years now but something always comes up that drains my money. I have been through 4 cars in the past 6months alone. I can't afford to get a nicer one so they don't last very long (I need a car for work so I don't have time to wait and save up). I can't backup my files through online storage because the cover folder I have is 50gb+ alone.

When the time comes that I do get another computer and assuming my files are fine I will get an enclosure for the drive an it will become my new external drive.

I'll get it all figured out, it'll just take a while ...

Absolutely nothing. It won't turn on or charge even with a brand new power supply plugged in. The battery would at least charge if the hard drive crashed. Its not the actual plug for the power supply to go into either as that has been tested. I was told by a few people it is likely the mother board that fried. It's unfortunate but I'm trying to figure out a way to get another computer. I may have a solution but i won't really be sure until Friday. Fingers crossed

Nuts, looks like I'm a little late to the party, but, from what I was reading, I thought the same thing. Some places can repair/replace your motherboard for around $70. A new laptop could cost you around $500-1000. I'd look into fixing it before replacing it! (And I speak from experience; the same thing happened to me- AND my files were all intact!)

I got a quote for how much it would take to fix my motherboard. Since the computer is 4+ years old and is discontinued it would actually cost me aroud $400 just to get it up and running again. If I'm going to spend that much money I may as well replace it.

I appreciate the donation offers by I don't know if I feel quite comfortable accepting handouts. Well my Birthday is on Friday and if you wanted to give me anything for that ... ;) jk

I think I may actually have enough to get another laptop in a few weeks but I dot have quite enough to include the shipping and a new enclosure for my old drive. If I were to outright get the computer, shipping and the enclosure I'd be down to my last $100 to last me for everything for two weeks (basically only driving to work and eating shitty food). I may have to wait a while longer ... we'll see what happens.

Fixed that typo, but honestly, why don't you buy a external HDD instead of a new enclosure?  I have (2) 2TB's and (1) 500 GB, they are not that expensive anymore =\

How to build a $480 gaming PC to take on Battlefield 3 (http://www.destructoid.com/how-to-build-a-480-gaming-pc-to-take-on-battlefield-3-207064.phtml)

I ran into this article trying to find a way to make a cheap gaming PC (though not for Battlefield 3).This might help you with the costs, and give you a better machine in the process.

My autocorrect kind of sucks sometimes on my phone. Well I could get an enclosure for about $15 and just use the old harddrive that I already have currently sitting in my dead computer. The one I have in there is 300gb so I may as well.

(could one of the admins combine this with my other post above, it's very difficult to quote more that one thing on my phone. Thanks)

I don't want a desktop pc though. I need a laptop as most of the time I make covers I'm on the run somewhere. I also don't want to be forced to be antisocial locked in my room all the time. My gf, roomate and her bf watch tv and do stuff on our computers all in the living room when we have days off. It may sound a little wired but I really enjoy that time. I already have a computer picked out, I just need to wait for the funds.

I built a decent enough computer for 240 dollars for one of my students. AMD Duo core processor, motherboard, 4 gigs ddr3 ram, 500gb HD. This did not include the case and PSU as he recycled his old one.

Oh well that is shitty indeed. I accidently deleted my whole cover folder some time ago but were able to recover it with a neat programm. Unfortunately it turned out that most of the files are damaged now and can't be opened. *Ouch*

What program did you use? I had something like that happen before and used Pandora Recovery and got all my files back.

I used TunUp Undelete which seems to be a not so hot program despite its good reviews. I checked every single file now though and it seems that half of them are infact intact. ;D
Allready redownloaded the rest so saved the day.

I got a quote for how much it would take to fix my motherboard. Since the computer is 4+ years old and is discontinued it would actually cost me aroud $400 just to get it up and running again. If I'm going to spend that much money I may as well replace it.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Whoever told you that has got to have been trying to rip you off... I had my laptop's motherboard repaired for $70. On campus. Where things cost more than the arm and leg it'll usually cost you.

My laptop was also around 3-4 years old when I sent it to get repaired, too.

From my understanding my motherboard needs to be replaced because it can't be repaired. I guess there are other problems with it too. I really wish it were that easy ... I guess it was the computer gods telling me to upgrade.

Even then though, a motherboard is not as expensive to require someone to ask you for $400. I bought my dad a replacement mobo for $50. Only because the cheaper one ($30) didn't seem like it would work on his computer. I still call foul somewhere in those $400.

I think  is talking about desktop motherboards which can be replaced cheap as there are hundreds of compatible ones, shenske's talking about a laptop motherboard which can only take the specific board for that laptop ( as everything needs to be in the exact right spot on the board, and has built in graphics, network,io, sound, etc etc.). 400 does seem alot, but the board probably hasn't been made for a few years as it's an old model.  You might find a cheap version of that machine on eBay with a cracked screen or something you could rip the motherboard out of though.

If you end up just going with a desktop pc I have been eyeballing this one from Walmart.com
http://www.walmart.com/ip/CyberPower-GUA120/16672334

I was looking to upgrade what I have and went to the dell site, where I was very surprised to be approved for a 1,000 dell card. (with 29.99% APR- SCREW THAT) I looked at walmart and saw a hp for 350, did some research and then noticed this one.  Easily upgrade-able and has a nice large power supply.

If you know someone you trust that works for Wal-Mart, they get 10% discounts, it might work for the pcs online too.

**AWWWW DOOKIE! Just noticed it says it is out of stock online**

**** Never mind.  Back in stock***

I ordered my new computer on the 5th and it should be arriving by the 16th according to their site.
I decided to go with the Sony Vaio 17.3" series.  I upgraded a few things here and there so it will be more powerful than the stock version but i decided to go without the blueray functionality.  It was quite a bit of money and my meals may be a bit bland for the next few weeks but it'll totally be worth it! I can't wait to get everything up and running so i can contribute to the site once again.

Here is a link to kind of see what I'm getting!

Yeah i figured an upgrade from my old computer would be better than outright replacing it with a computer with the same specs.  This all worked out (financially) for me because of my girlfriend. She paid for just about all of the food for my bday party so that left me with enough to get this computer and still be pretty comfortable :)  I like her

Speaking of pc gaming ... would you or anyone else happen to know of a driver that would allow me to use the official wired microsoft xbox360 controller on my computer? I was looking a few days before my computer crashed and didn't have a whole lot of luck.

I don't think it needs driver anymore, it should be build in into Windows nowadays, so just plug it in.

The driver did originally come with the controller on a disc, and should be downloadable on Microsofts site if necessary.

You're gonna be running win7 it should auto-detect. Speaking of xbox contoller, there's a neat little program called "xpadder" (google it). I usually don't plug products but this one is cool, it allows you to map key board keys to any button or stick on the controller. You can even map the mouse onto the controler. Great for a lot of uses, even playing those "wasd" oldies.

I didn't go with the one I posted though....it kept being out of stock so I went with the red one that was a little more cash with better specs.

I agree. Im pretty sure either djshok or irvgotti could help with that. It seems they've updated thier templates from what I can tell from thier recent covers. Been meaning to do the same myself but have been pretty lazy lol.

Wouldnt hurt to update the NES and SNES templates either, with the original "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" and not just "Official Nintendo Seal"  :)

You are right chad. I think we both update at the same time. I added the sega logo with the proper outline, fixed the player #'s box and used hexxer's sega seal. I'm jusrt really trying to find the proper font on the blue mega drive back where the player #'s are displayed. Also have a bunch of develper logos on there so I'll send it off to shenske for a final look over :) if he's cool with it that is.

Hello Shenske!! I have seen you're amazing covers for N64 games, such as Pokemon Stadium and Super Mario 64. I am using the e red versions of the covers you make for my N64 game collection. I have a few other games that still need covers, and I would like to request our expertise to make them. The games I have yet to find suitable covers for are Yoshi's Story, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and Glover. I hope you will be able to help me with these, and other covers in the future. ;D

You seriously overestimate my artistic abilities.  ;D  Were it simply a matter of copy-pasting the Nintendo spine logo over your version I could do it, but the text on the spine on Shenske's version is aligned differently and, well, I don't know how to do stuff like that.  :P

Anyone else hate the shape of the cart for the SNES Game Genie?  I have a solution!

My newest project that i wanted to work on for years!  I picked up some spare $1 SNES sports game for the sole purpose of doing mods with them.  I've always hated the way the Game Genie is shaped on the Super Nintendo.

I gutted out the inside of an snes shell and managed to secure the Game Genie inside of one of the game shells.  It wasn't the craziest of mods but it was very time consuming and I think the time was well spent. Here are my results.  ;D

Fits in the UGC with no bulge whatsoever!

Cart only, its pretty damn slick  :)

What it looks like when you put a game in my new Game Genie

Proof that it all still works. I made a spot for the switch and lite of the front of the cart.

It just doesn't wiggle around at all, its really stable. I was playing it on my snes portable with no problems at all.

If you were to do it yourself i would recommend using the other type of snes shell.
Like this: (http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5733/supermarioworldmediasho.jpg)

My favorite college and professional football teams both didn't win the big one.
(I'm from Indiana and moved to Colorado when i was young, i like a mix of both of their teams)

Notre Dame goes undefeated and is embarrassed in the BCS Championship

Denver Broncos lose the their first game in the playoffs to a team they are better than.

just ..... eh ....  :'(  :'(

I couldn't believe Denver's secondary let someone past them at the end of regulation.  I thought it was a lock for the AFC Championship Manning vs. Brady, but the Ravens came ready to play.  I don't think Houston stands a snowball's chance in Foxboro, however, so it'll have the Brady part at least.

Still, my Seahawks are playing tomorrow and it'll be a good one.  *crosses fingers*

... Rahim Moore. Looks like he attempted to go for the pick and whiffed. He had the angle to just swat it down and end the game.

Basically i'm just rooting against the Patriots. I actually do hope the Seahawks make it, their defense is stout  :)

Well I'm kind of glad to see the Niners beating down the Packers right now.  I have nothing against Green Bay, but I think of the two scenarios we're better off facing Kaepernick in San Francisco than Rodgers in Lambeau.  Of course, we still have to worry about tomorrow first!

I'm not a sports lover, and I can't stand football. I tried watching the Super Bowl once a few years ago, but got fed up halfway through. Besides, most professional sports seem like they're all about style these days, instead of substance. I do like watching the Olympics every few years, though.

I'm not a big "soccer" fan except when i watch it with my friend from Germany.

I live game probably, otherwise natonality of the company makes no difference.

And if there would not be few stupid rules, most stupid being no celebrading the goal as it glorifies single person over the team.
Or has that rule been trashed already.

Technically soccer is a correct term. Not a popular one outside the US by the way...
Personally, american football should be called american rugby to avoid confusions with "real" football, but probably that's just me...
I mean, c'mon, a player throwing a football and not using its feet is the main star of the show and the game is not called handball.

I'm 110% with you guys. Football makes no sense. Should call it time out ball, or maybe penalty ball, since those two things seem to take up 2/3 of the time spent in a game.

I have a restoration project ahead of myself.  ;D
(http://imageshack.us/a/img843/9171/20130608173630.jpg)

None even turn on. A combo of broken hinges, missing buttons, fried batteries, stickers, permanent marker, cracked shells and broken charge slots.  This is just what i can see from the outside, it may very well have more problems that i can't see.  I'm excited to fix em' up!  ;D

Here is a pic of the last one i fixed up. Not sure if i want to go for the same treatment or do something more extravagant.

Damn, well thats a bit of bad luck.

After spending extensive testing, soldering and cleaning i have determined that all 3 of those DS Lites have fried motherboards.  :'(  I spent a good deal of time switching some fuses too with no luck.  The one remaining DS may be salvageable. Hopefully i can get it up and running.
Once i opened them up some were pretty rough. Soda spilled, mother board cracked,

I got them for free so its not that big of a deal. At least i have lots of parts stocked up.
Surprisingly all of the systems' screens are uncracked and in pretty good condition.

EDIT: Got one working! Had to piece it together from 3 of the systems  ;D
I would switch around pieces with the other shells to get a combo that matches better but i'm taking this one as a victory for right now. I'll more than likely order a new shell anyway.

Yay for this not being a waste of my day!  :D

I really only had the desire to do SNES in that style because the SFC did it. The way the SFC looks in that style is so elegant and didn't want to leave us Americans out. If someone else wants to do the other Nintendo consoles more power to them, i wish them the best of luck.

I have actually been thinking of a way to use the wire framing in some cover for SNES but i haven't decide yet.
If i were to do it i would use it for all the random accessories for the SNES including but not limited to the controller.

If anyone here is interested I am selling my two GameStop exclusive Halo (Halo 4 & Halo Reach) figures. They were only available through the PowerUpRewards program and only 3000 of each were ever made. They are Brand New, never been opened and being sold as a pair, only though ebay.

Normally i would give you guys a crack at it first but i honestly don't really know the true value of the figures. I don't want to give you or myself a bad deal.

My ebay listing says that won't ship outside of the US but I will make an exception for TCP members.  If you do decide to bid on this drop me a PM here and i'll work something out with you to get it shipped outside of the states.

RED areas are road closures. Flood area is growing and growing.
Not showing exactly where i live for obvious reasons.

Luckily my house is not flooded (at the moment). Big problem is i live a few miles where two major rivers converge. All the water rushing from the mountains is flooding EVERYTHING.  I'm on water notice currently. We have to boil water for consumption, can't flush toilet or shower for an estimated 10 days.

We still have access to a few roads in town at the moment.  Its not that all the roads are closed to to water, some just aren;t there and have been completely destroyed.  My girlfriend and I have food and we went out and bought some jugs of water this morning. Hopefully the water will pass and the Platte River doesn't overflow. If that happens i'll surely be evacuated as that is only 1 mile from my house. I can see the river from upstairs window.  We still have power at the moment and are just basically "sitting tight" to see what will happen next.

Wish me luck  :-\   (On the bright side i have homeowners insurance)

Shees what bad luck.

Glad I live in hilly area that cannot flood.
All the excess water dumps in to lakes and ponds surrounding the area.
If they fill the lakes/ponds dump in to bigges lake in Finland and if that starts to flood we just dump the water in to Russia and pay them a bit for the damages. ;D

We still have power at the moment and are just basically "sitting tight" to see what will happen next.

What a excelent time to clean covers.
Romantic candle light dinners and board games can wait until power goes out.

Anyway good luck.

I ordered the EverDrive64 for StoneageGamer and it is awesome!

Since I ordered the 'board only' version so I thought i'd go a very custom route with this one. The logo on the front was made from the Ultra64 logo (the original name of the N64). I went to the local gameshop and got a copy of AllStar Baseball 2001 as a donor for this creation. From its ashes something greater was born.

Awesome job. Customers send me pictures of their custom carts occasionally. This is probably one of the best I've seen. We wanted to do an orange version of the ED64 Deluxe, but the more color options the more work. I may have to rethink this.

The EverDrive Family ;D

I got everything from StoneAgeGamer (awesome products btw), made the labels and cut the shells myself (the Gen label uses DJshok's design until i come up with something). Doom for SNES did not have to die for this project ... but it did get displaced in a gray shell. I purchased one from ebay with an almost unrecognizable label for this reason.

I also have the TurboEverDrive (not pictured) and will eventually get the EverDrive for GameGear. I haven't decided what visiual style to go with for the SEGA EverDrives so they are in the normal retail look for now. I'm considering going with a blue scheme or all black scheme.

Yeah i looked into that and got sniped at the last minute on a few eBay auctions. I don't want to "ruin" one in good shape so i am mostly after the rough condition ones. I'm undecided if i want to keep the red theme throughout. Obviously the SMS grid was red and the Genesis used the red stripes but i'm undecided if i want to go "all one color" for Sega.

I also have 20+ crappy sports games for genesis (i bought them for the clamshell case) that i had no qualms with dicing up for the EverDrive. If i end up going with a colored cart for the Genesis I wouldn't waste anything by throwing the old shell out.

Basically whatever style i decide to use I want it to be constant throughout all of the Sega EverDrives (Master System, Genesis, GameGear).  :)

thats freaking awesome! I too was thinking of getting all of the stoneagegamer drives but am having a hard time trying to justify spending almost a thousand bucks. It just feels so good taking, say for instance, the actual Link to the Past cartridge and booting it up back like when I was a kid.

Looks great, man!

I know why the TG16 ED isn't in the group shot.  There isn't a whole lot of real estate for labels and paint :-\

Well i made a cover for it a while back for the mini gift card case. As far as the actual device there is not a whole lot you can do to customize something the width of 2 gift cards. I'm trying to figure something out to spice it up but i'm not holding my breath.

Awesome work.
What do you use to print the stickers ?

I get them printed at OfficeMax of 'full sheet label paper.' They used to just sell you one sheet and print on that for $1-$1.25. They were bought out at the end of last year so they no longer offer a one sheet at a time so i had to buy 25 sheets (i have lots of spares now). The 25 label sheets was only $15 though so it actually ends up being cheaper in the long run.

They don't have the same gloss as the original labels but they stick just fine and i haven't had any peeling issues even with labels i have printed over 4 years ago.
PRODUCT #: OM96332

that is awesome. I was starting to wonder if I was the only game collector who also collects everdrives/flash carts.

I've been getting more and more intrigued by repros so i figured the best way to get a true feel to what they'd be like is to play them on the real hardware. I've also been using them as a 'demo unit' for games I've never played. That way i can try it out and if i like it i'll hunt down the cart for it.  ;D

I've added a lot  of games to the want list since grabbing these.

Finally! After 2 days of hard work, my console shelf is completed!

I've been planning on making this shelf for some time now. I knew it would take a few solid days of work so I wanted to get this done while i was on staycation. The last 2 staycations i had I either procrastinated or to was just too lazy to get it done. Enough was enough, i had to get it done and i'm very glad i took the initiative.  ;D

Some of you may know i purchased 3 bookshelves from Borders when they went out of business. They are built to be tilted back against the wall. Each one is 8ft x 3ft. The way my game room is set up i couldn't put them all side by side because of the window. I always had kind of an awkward gap between the two shelves under the window so i thought it would be perfect to put my consoles there. The video cords go to one of 3 system switchers i have. Each row's power cords with go to their own power strip. The cords from the switch box run behind the shelf to the tv.

The shelf is 3 ft high and 5 ft wide, 12" deep at the base and 10" deep at the top. It sits flush with the adjacent shelves.

Just put together everything in the garage.

Fits like a glove!

Consoles on the shelf. I have some cases on the shelves for now until i make the wood dividers.
I'm unsure if i want to have dividers between each system or just split down the middle.

There is a 1 1/2" piece of wood across the back of each shelf to help prevent bowing.

I deserved this ...

Cool man!

If you wanna give it some more protection against bowing (aside from NOT using plywood ;)), you could place a sheet of plywood/MDF/whatever on the back and toss some screws into the shelves through the backing material.  Will help keep the shelves from sagging AND it'll give it a LOT more structural rigidity (will stand better on its own, and not sway side-to-side).

I'm planning on adding a back piece of 1/16" plywood and painting it black. I'm going to use a nail gun or staple gun to secure it.

I just got really excited when i got this far, lol  :)

Better watch out.. If you leave it in front of that window.. Those consoles may discolor!

I'm more of a moocher than poster, but I gotta ask. Okay, it's more like beg.

Shenske, I love the covers you've made for the Pokemon game covers for DS cases, but I'm begging you. Could you please redo them using spellcheck and the accent mark above the e? I've got an anal-retentive attention to detail when it comes to my game covers.

I'll throw babies and/or midgets down wells if it could get you to do this for me and other poor gamer geeks everywhere.

Congrats.  As a person who lives in a city that no longer has a football team, and as a person who cares very little for football in the first place, I typically don't care much at all for who wins, but for whatever reason, I was rooting for the Broncos tonight.

I think the word of the day was "defense" because...damn.  That was scary.  And lord knows the offenses of either team didn't do much.

Yeah watched the game... offence was incredibly bad on both sides, add to that that both had great defence, one had some what rookie QB and the other had near walking limbing dead QB... no wonder game was boring as hell.

Only interesting moment was the first touchdown and how it happened (the whole few seconds it lasted).

Half time show was mediocre.

= WORST SUPER BOWL I'VE SEEN.
Even the power outage during Super Bowl few years ago was more interesting ;)

As someone who played football in high school and college, I actually LOVED this game.  Then again, I was a defensive player.  This game was not very exciting for a lot of people, and I get that, but both defenses were awe inspiring, especially to anyone who played Def, or just really likes a strong defensive showing.  For me, that is way more exciting than a 42-37 game.

Either way, the Patriots weren't in it, and that's all I think the majority of people cared about anyway.   :D

I definitely get what you are saying.  I've never been into football, so I don't get much enjoyment out of it in the first place.  But as a guy who ran cross country and track & field in college, I love watching that kind of stuff.  And that's a sport that 99% of people find extremely boring.  But since it was such a big part of my life, I'll always enjoy watching it, especially during the Summer Olympics.

Oh, and speaking of track & field, it was pretty cool watching Alan Webb's high school indoor mile record get broken this weekend (same day as the Super Bowl).  He set that record back when I was in high school, and honestly, I didn't know that it had help up all this time until Sunday.

Damn, that was an old record...... because I'm kind of old now.  :-\

Update with the ol' Shenske

Sorry to basically be a ghost these last two months. Losing my mother took a lot out of me and there were 1001 things to attend to at that time. I also ended a 7 1/2 year relationship so I am in the process of packing/moving at this time. I will have my own place by June 1st and hopefully have internet set up a few days after. A week or so later I am hoping to get back to it.

Update #2 with the Shenske ... When it rains it pours

Remember that 7 1/2 year relationship I ended? .... well that shit got a hell of a lot worse. Long story short i came across 15k messages between my ex and her co-worker. They had a affair for about 5 years of my 7 1/2 year relationship. They practiced their infidelity 2-4 times a week for that entire 5 year period up until I contacted his wife about 2 weeks ago (when I found out). Also, my grandmother passed away a few days following that.

It is ridiculously shitty but I can muster a positive out of that. Thank god I had the courage to end that relationship with her months ago (even before I knew about the infidelity). I'm moving on, I'm taking care of myself ... but 2017 is probably the worse year of my life so far.

Except the Nintendo Switch, that thing is cool  :)

Hang in there man =(  .  Has your Ex or the douche (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=22651.msg204639#msg204639) been murdered yet?  Because, that would be epic.

I am also not saying that the mystery guy is me!  Just wanted a reason to URL to myself calling myself a douche.  Wiggy's still upset about a joke from months ago.
