Title: Amiga CD 32 DVD Project
Post by: Lumberjack42 on January 07, 2008, 04:24:18 AM
Okay, I know that it has been a while since someone (and I can't remember now who,) asked for an Amiga CD 32 DVD cover. I made the template but the scans in the raw section are well below standards to be any use other than demonstration.

So here it is...

The Amiga CD32 Template (work in progress)

and Chaos Engine (just to get the idea)

What do you think?

Looks good.....

I like the all black finish.... I could provide some good cd32 scans if I have some freetime..... Whenever this may be....

It looks pretty good :D . If you ever need some more game scans, you can get them at a good resolution at Lemon Amiga and Hall of Light.

Very nice work LJ, very nice indeed.

Sigh, I miss this place...oh well, back to study...and the kids...and work...

Some guy named Grumble[something or other] PM'ed me about INTV covers.  I'll be providing the template to him when I fire up my old PC so hopefully, You, He and Seb can keep up the vintage covers whilst I continue on my forced break.  I might start dumping some raw scans of all my INTV games with the template if anyone else is interested......anyone........anyone at all........... :D

That would be great as CD32 scans are a bit rare (well good ones anyway).Nearly all the backs of these have to be rebuilt from scratch..v.time consuming! ;)

Did you ever look into our CD32 raw section grumble? There are plenty of raws waiting... If they are not good enough quality wise just tell me and I'll delete them....
Title: Re: Amiga CD 32 DVD Project
Post by: Grumbleduke on February 29, 2008, 06:49:32 PM
The scans are all way too low quality to be any real good im afraid. When i got home today,i found the PC had gone down with a primary hard disk failure.Bad news cos' all our family photos and music were on it. :(
AND so i have fitted a new HD,installed Vista and started the loooong process of installing all the relevent progs again.Only 2 good things came out of this.Luckily,i kept templates and raws on an external drive(thank the lord!!) and in amongst all the carnage and sorting through backups,i found and upped this....

More INTV when i fix everything! ;)

I still have a 500+ packed away in the loft. I get it out a couple of times a year and have Alien Breed/Wizz Kid/Assassin/Project X etc sessions. Trouble is its just so bulky i dont have the room to keep it out.

I decided to put the C64 and it's peripherals(which need a huge amount of space) in the bedroom to make room for my A1200 in the main gaming room....

Besides I was wondering why is the A1200 smaller and more compact than the A500???

One of the games I loved most on my Amiga back in the days was Loom and Monkey Island...... Those to I played for ages.... A yes and Battle Isle....

Fightin' Spirit (UK/EU)

I believe this was regarded as the best fighter for CD32/Amiga in its day, mind you there's not to many for it to beat ;). Kind of a Fatal Fury clone with a bit of Street Fighter in the mix, its actually a very acomplished game for the hardware its running on. Shows what could be done on the Amiga. The front is as the original packaging but i had to alter the text as it dissapeared into the background a little AND i couldnt fix it up. The back is custom, only the very spartan bit of text from the jewel case remained.

Wow, it's amazing how they rip off Street Fighter, Art Of Fighting AND World Heroes at the same time :D

From what I saw in youtube videos the game looks nice and enjoyable. It has pretty nice backgrounds, too. Not bad.

Still I think the alpha and omega of fighters on Amiga is Ultimate Body Blows.

Ah the good old days, when programmers played fast and loose with copyright issues. ;) I still have Great Giana Sisters on C64 cassette tucked away in the loft, i got it on release day and it was pulled from the shelves a few days later (for being almost identicle to Super Mario Bros for anyone who did'nt know). Might be worth something if it will still load. My C64 is currently dead but i hope to fix it one day.

Super Stardust (UK/EU)

A great update of asteroids, i was blown away by the tunnel sequences on the A500 at the time. :D In the bottom left corner of the front is the name of the original cover artist. He/She was one of the few who put a name to a cover and as he/she did a nice job of it, i re-signed it.

Fire & Ice (E.U)

Pretty close to the original jewel case on both front and rear(except i added the magazine logo's to spice it up a bit) The back reads like a who's who of 90's euro gamermags. "Its the finest platform game ever!" states the blurb at the top. I would'nt go that far, even back in '94 but it will be fondly remembered by Amiga types and is a great platformer anyway. :D

It looks like this topic has lost a bit of interest...

Anyhow, I did find this site today...

http://toseciso.org/list.php?sys=1&sort=dev&order=asc

Some of them are high res some are low.

While I'm not good at cleaning up covers, here is an example of Alien Breed 3D from Team17...

I don't want to upload it until it gets cleaned up otherwise it isn't up to the standard of the other covers on this site.

Hmmm.... It's high res yes but seems to have extremly washed out colors.

Just look at the black of the scan compared to teh black of the template! *yuck*

That's just a very very very quick brightness/contrast adjustment, so I'm sure if someone was willing to put any amount of time into it, they could get this looking decent.
Title: Re: Amiga CD 32 DVD Project
Post by: thesubcon3 on April 30, 2010, 10:45:01 PM
Wow that already looks much more amazing!  :o

If I find time, I'll have to recut the cover and back so there is less of the extra borders and more picture. I did the original in regular paint at work so using a real program I can easily do wonders.

Jup with some time invested you actually could make this look decent color-wise.

It's just always difficult to not overdo it...
