Very slick, and nice use of (what I assume are) vector graphics. A number of the items in your list are relevant to my interests, so I look forward to doing business with you in the future. I really hope this takes off for you like it most certainly should!
-
Any pics of a GBA with backlit screen?
-
I'd like a modification kit for Turbo Express, Game Gear and Nomad.
-
Looks really good man! I may look into some of your stuff later when you get more available.
-
i just want a DMG-SP! how much for one of those guys? :)

Thank you, sir! Yes, I'm a vector crackhead. I will use any excuse I can come up with to make a vector icon or graphic :P

Indeed!

Yes, the GBA with the SP screen IS dimmer. Honestly though, I actually prefer it that way. It's a lot easier on the eyes over a period of time and most likely the only time it would even remotely be an issue would be in direct sunlight.
Looks really good man! I may look into some of your stuff later when you get more available.
Thanks! I'm making some more packaging for vaious products right now...
I'd like a modification kit for Turbo Express, Game Gear and Nomad.
I'm working on something for the GG right now (thanks to Forte for letting me use his as a Guinea Pig ;) ). As far as the TE and Nomad go, what are you looking for? I know there are folks that have put newer, nicer LCDs into teh Nomad, but I haven't seen or heard much about modding the TE.
i just want a DMG-SP! how much for one of those guys? :)
One billion-gazillion-bajillion dollars! ;D
But seriously, a LOT. Still gotta finish mine up when I get a little free time to work with. It takes a TON of work to make it completely backward compatible and still have every bit of functionality that the SP does. Just making that adapter cart was hours and hours of work.
More pics to come later. Gotta get back to work...

This is fantastic! I need to pick up that new GBA for modding and then I'll be getting your GBA backlight kit. (Or I might just buy a pre-modded one, since I'm leaning towards the black shell). And down the road I'll definitely be wanting to do a frontlit mod with a GBC and new LCD screen/rechargeable battery on my Sega Nomad.
Will you also be offering your Double and Triple UGC (and other cases) services?
Also, when you say custom paint, do you have any examples? Like, could you paint a Game Boy Color shell flat black to match the black GBA in your backlit video?
-
are you thinking in international shipping maybe?
-
Pm sent lol.
I waiting for your gg light kit btw. Going to do a basic led mod on one of mine, but waiting to see what you come up with for my majesco gg :p

As far as cases go, yeah, sure. I'm actually trying to work on a faster and better way of making them right at this moment. Smoothimnow actually turned me on to a cheap product that seems like it'll work well for the sleeves :D
are you thinking in international shipping maybe?
Me? Are you asking if I will ship international? If so, yes!

PMing you back...

Those look great. I think I'll have to have you paint the GBC I have modded then.
Do you have any pics of installed LED power indicators, particularly blue?

I'm just having a hard time getting them to work. The process required isn't something that I have ANY experience with at all :/

Thanks :D

Nothing game related beside the micro. A few automotive things. It's something that I just started to get into.

Quick update to the blog. I'm gonna try and have a store up this week. In the meantime, feel free to hit me up about anything that you may be interested in ;D
Also, I just finished up a pretty cool custom backlit GBA. Gonna post it up for grabs ASAP. Stay tuned...

Just made up a whole mess of these tonight! Some are on their way to the land down under, some will case up pre-modded GBAs that I made today, and there are quite a few that need a home! :D
See first post for pricing.

Oh man.... :o
You just had to open shop right before I spend my money on the Wii U! :P
Time to start selling a few things for some Wiggy money.
-
I am totally down for some double UGC's! gotta case up that SNES game Genie! And a backlit Gameboy Pocket!
-
Good god, you really are serious about driving me into bankruptcy. BRB selling my kidney
-
I'd love to get my mitts on a GBA Micro Famicom-edition UGC...
-
Just as an FY, the Micro and charger can easily fit in a single UGC. Buuuuut, that's definitely not how I store them ;)
Would you want a retail-like cover or something custom?
-
This is a special Gameboy. Let's go with your Minimalistic style... It's the American-released Famicom edition.
I also need one for Gameboy Color (The Blue/Yellow Pokemon edition) which I would LOVE to have it resemble the OG Pokedex. I think GBC needs a double UGC. Not quite able to fit it into a regular one without smushing down the buttons. http://clutterreport.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/e-dex02.jpg?w=500
I'm not quite ready with my NGPC yet. But these two are a-needed.

Sell sell sell! LOL!

That was actually the use for the very first double that I made :D

I think just an eyeball will cover it :P

The color needs a double, for sure. I've got a few cased up already.
I can definitely do those cases for ya.
Just to be sure, you want:
- Gameboy Micro 20th anniv US version minimalist case (double?)
- Gameboy Color (two-tone Pokémon version) double UGC styled to look like the Pokedex
Let me find a good image of that Pokedex and see what I need to build (graphics-wise) to make that happen for ya. Just confirm that what I have listed is correct (or not) and I'll send you a quote :)
-
The Micro doesn't really need a Double. So a single will work for it.
-
OK, sounds good :)
-
The Pokedex/GBC version is a gift for my GF... I may want to write something for the back of it.
-
Aww, that's really nice!
Just shoot me a pm with the text if you want, or I can leave a blank spot like a card or something for you to write in what you'd like ;)
-
Wiggy, what are your prices for double and triple UGCs if we provide the cases, compared to if you provide them?
-
I'm not sure off the top of my head since I've never considered it, but I can pretty much guarantee that the price you'd pay to ship yours to me would be more than just having me supply them. I'm not really charging for the cases. Well, I should say that I'm not really charging much more than I pay for them. I believe that I have each case priced at about .75-1.00 a pop, which is obviously 1.50-2.00 per double. That's pretty damned close to my initial cost after shipping, which is .42 per UGC plus ~$25-30 shipping per box of cases, or .67-.72 per UGC, and 1.34-1.44 per pair.
So unless you're paying way less than me somehow, I don't think there's any way that you'll save money that way :-\
-
Ok awesome, I just wanted to ask so that I know how many UGCs I might need for that and future games. But if it's better all around then I don't need to worry about providing them. When I do order some, I'll still send you my EU DS cases for the double and triple EU DS cases we discussed via PM, since I assume you don't have any of those handy. ;)
Also (last question), what would you charge for a single UGC with cut internals and your custom padding for things like the DS Lite, GBA SP, and other things that fit in a single UGC? I already have those cased with little to no modifications, but if I'm going to be getting your double and triple UGCs with custom padding, I'd like to have them all match. 8)
-
Not very much. I'm also doing some new things as far as padding/packing the portables so that they look a lot more retail-like, and less like a plastic case that's been hacked up and padded.
Either route, just lemme know when you're ready to go and we'll sort out a price :)
-
Pre-Modded GBA systems for sale.
See first post for pics and prices.

Beautiful work man, if I hadn't knocked one up for myself i'd snap one up for sure. To anyone not sure about grabbing one of these, the backlit LCD makes playing GBA games a real joy. The amount of detail in those games hidden by the shitty screens Nintendo originally used is staggering.
-
You got PM.
-
I want one ..... PM..

Replied to PMzzzzzz...

For real. It's like night and day. I've been playing the snot out of mine lately. It just makes me giggle a little when I see it sitting there ;D
edit: Well, that was fast! Red is gone!
-
Wiggy you are making me drool with these. Any idea how much shipping to France would be on one of those GBA's?
I have a black one here that i broke the screen on when replacing the shell. Bought a replacement screen before I knew there were 2 types of connector, and guess what, I needed the larger connector, but got the smaller one. Grrrr. So in essence, I could replace the broken one with a lovely light up one......if the cost isn't prohibitive. (if you happen to have a spare screen there with a large connector i could take that off your hands at the same time.)
-
The "kit" would be exactly what you need. This mod requires a new LCD regardless, so your broken screen is no issue :) However it does require a fair amount of modification to the shell to make it all work. The kit is normally $75 shipped for the kit within the US, and it looks like shipping to France would be 17 bucks. I normally figure $5 of the domestic price is for shipping, which makes the difference $12. Call it $85 total and I'd be a happy camper ;D
-
problem is i don't own a soldering iron - and based on the fact i broke a screen just removing it from the old shell (damn sticky stuff), i don't trust my heavy handedness to perform the mod, so think i'm better off getting one of the pre-mods.
I was hoping i could hold off and get a premodded SNES in one of your new shell's from you at the same time, but seeing the pics of these makes me want it NOW! lol. ;D
-
Here's the thing, I don't know how long it'll be before the SNES shell thing is feasible, and I'm about 99% sure at this point that I'll be doing an SNS-001 shell instead of an SNS-101. Based on the cost of tooling, parts, and quantity of parts required per order, I think the only way to make it viable would be to go with the 001 since A) there is a FAR larger user base, and B) there is actually a good "need" for SNS-001 shells since so many have severe yellowing and damage due to the plastic becoming far more brittle as a result of such.
Buuuuuut, I am planning on purchasing a small rapid prototype machine this coming year, so I will be able to produce the 101 shell in a more limited quantity on a special order basis for folks that really want one. They won't be cheap, but they will be quite exclusive, which will afford me the opportunity to make each one as unique as the customer wants ;D
If you're really itching for a modded GBA right now, the price for intl shipping should be just about the same since the entire package still weighs less than 1lb. So figure on of these remaining two would run ya' $135 :)
-
Why did you use 3rd party shells? They look cheapo.
For a premium product this kind of doesn't fit.
-
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa......woah...
You can make custom painted clear GBA shells?!?
This changes everything...
Can you do clear blue, like what these Midnight Blue Game Boys look like in the picture? (its actually more purple in real life, but I'd rather have blue like how they look in these pictures)

The shells that those two came in originally were BEAT, and I mean like too beat to salvage with paint unless I were to do some body work on them. The time I would have spent repairing and painting them simply wouldn't have been worth it. I would need to jack the price way up just to make up for the time spent repairing them, and who wants to pay for that?
If I could find quality replacement shells, then you better believe that I'd spend the $$$ to get' em. That said, I've had these two here for a while and having spent some time with them, they really aren't that bad at all. The fitment is spot on and the only real issues are the pigment deficiency (the orange one is somewhat translucent when compared to an OEM shell) and the quality of the clear plastic lens (they scuff really easily).
But, I just received a PM from a fellow member with a link to GLASS replacement lenses :o that should make that a concern of the past. They're pricey, but not prohibitively so. If I grab 10 or so at a time, it'll be well worth it and shouldn't affect my cost and thus the price for you ladies and gents ;D
In the future I may just stick with OEM shells. I just happen to have these as extras and the shells were purchased a while back for my own purposes. These were actually in my collection, unmodified save for the shell for quote a few months.

Of course (not that I'm trying to toot my own horn). Painting is something that I've been doing for years years. Plastics, composites, metal, wood, whatever. That's no problem at all. It's just a matter of finding the matching color. I'll try and find something in a rattle can. Doing projects that small with auto paint blows. The prep, setup, cleanup, and all that just blows for something like a Gameboy shell, not to mention the cost of a pint (if I can even get a candy blue in a pint) would be mondo prohibitive. I'll take a look right now. I bet Testor's or VHT make something that'll do the job ;)

holy crap lois, I'd nut myself for that GBA Phat with the backlight mod

Picked up paint today. It's sort of lighter than I think it needs to be, but maybe with a few extra coats. I've got a beat to hell glacier shell, so I'll test it out as soon as I can.

Awesome, I can't wait to see how they go!

862 inches = 71.8333333 feet.

Yeah imagine the pixel size.
Too lazy to count but it'sprobably somewhere near a stamp.

Vertically, the plasma is about 442.6 inches. Assuming the plasma is 1080p, each pixel is about .4 inches tall.

Dear Lord, you guys put entirely too much thought into my absurd TV size LOL!

Any idea of when the store will be up?
-
No, but SOON hopefully. It's not something that I have a lot of expertise with. But, if someone is willing to trade out some goodies that does have some knowledge, then you'd make me a very happy wiggy.
In the meantime I can take orders the way that I have been, which is via paypal invoice.
-
Speaking of invoices, Wiggy check your PMs - I'm ready to get some stuff from you, I just need a price quote. ;)

Will do! :)

Black pre-mod is gone! Glass lenses are on their way as well, plus a different clear blue paint. What I had wasn't a very good color :-\

The GBA Backlight Kit instal manual is done! (finally) Lemme know what you guys think :)
GBA Backlight Kit installation manual (http://rosecoloredgaming.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/rcg-gba-light-manual.pdf)

Hey Wiggy. Been meaning to ask if you've tried one of your generic back lights in a game gear, or can think of any reason why one wouldn't fit?
Not a fan of the standard LED mod for them.
I swear I spend more time working on GGs than playing games at all.
-
Looks pretty sweet Wiggy.
I got 2 things I see that I would do though.
On page 6 there is a huge space between the word "solder" and the word "the" on number 1 without the switch.
Then I would make a disclaimer that if they fuck up something that it isn't in any way your fault bla bla bla you broke your system now suck it up bla bla bla... you know. Then under the tools required section for the disclaimer, you could put a brain lol.

If you'd mod the Game Gear with a modern LCD/LED screen... I'd be sold. I'd be number one on your list!

I've wanted this really bad too :)
The pixel resolution is all wonky when using a modern LCD/LED screen since the GG uses such a small pixel width and height. Every mod i've seen only uses a small portion of the screen for the games. It basically looks like a small picture in a big black window.

Wiggy is a gaming God among men. I know Wiggy can do it. You just need to believe. BELIEVE!!!

Hey Wiggy. Been meaning to ask if you've tried one of your generic back lights in a game gear, or can think of any reason why one wouldn't fit?
Not a fan of the standard LED mod for them.
I swear I spend more time working on GGs than playing games at all.
Yes, but they're too small to fill the entire screen :(
I'm working with my guy to try and get larger backlights for this very purpose :)
It's because of the paragraph format that I used. It fills the entire width, so it will expand the space in between letters in order for the type to meet each end of the type box (which is the width of the pics). This is what I'm talking about.

A disclaimer isn't a bad idea. I'll have to look up some standard forms on teh webz. Thanks!

I haven't seen this done (well) yet. I know it can be done with the Nomad, just don't know if there's a modern LCD that would get along with the resolution of the GG.

LOL! Thanks! Hopefully I'll get a chance to look at it. Right now I'd just like to get the OEM screen backlit in as nice a way possible :)
-
How about a Game Gear output to TV chip? I know there was a guy over at sega-16 that was making them but that was awhile back.
-
Do you have a link? It's not something I've ever looked at, but I have heard a lot if folks talking about it and wanting something like that :)
-
The source: http://members.iinet.net.au/~stinkyfist/reviletim/ggtv/ggtv.htm
-
That checkout seems to still work. Why not just buy a kit from him? Or is it just that you need it installed?
-
Nah I don't need it, was just linking to the source for this mod. Pretty sure this is the same one the other guy was talking about seeing on Sega16.
-
Gotcha ;)
Being that he already makes those boards, I can't see any reason for me to attempt to do the same ???
-
Buy a few, chuck 'em in some gamegears. Fancy packaging and BAM! New RCG product.
-
That checkout seems to still work. Why not just buy a kit from him? Or is it just that you need it installed?
few months ago the checkout wasn't there. also. that bastard was supposed to email me when he got more in stock. Guess I know what I'm buy next check for a consolized GG I want to build.

Same thing here, they must have just gone back in stock. I was supposed to get an email when they did and never got one... thanks for the link though.
-
Hey wiggly. did you get my reply?
-
These are awesome! I'd love to grab a Neo Geo Pocket Color with the Backlighting, I don't currently own the console but if I could get one with the backlight already, I'd be sold. Is that something you can do Wiggy?
-

Replied! :)

Thanks!
I can only front light the NGP color, but I can backlight the B&W NGP systems.
-
Some light is better than none on those consoles. And they looked so good for their time.
I will look into it on my next paycheck. PM me the cost and I will see how to budget it. A guy on Craigslist has a 3DO for $40 and I am grabbing that this weekend ;D

Man, I second that notion of staying the HELL AWAY from Rustoleum paint! Many a times I have wasted hours painting my models @ design school with that garbage!
-
Regarding the custom GBA micro faceplates, I'm definitely down for regular colors like blue.
I'll once again throw these out there to see if others are also interested:
I'd really be interested in that DMG faceplate, especially if I can rope you in to painting/replacing the buttons. ;)
Granted, I don't currently have a micro, but I think you can give me plenty of reason to pick one up. 8)

Right?! I had to completely rebuild a model at school once because of that crap >:(

I can definitely do those both. In fact, I've already been making casting molds for GBA buttons so I can ofter even more custom options. Doing the same for the micro would be a snap ;)
-
Man, you do stellar work my friend. Really wish I could afford to get me one of them GamBoy Advance with the backlight installed. Ditto on the Micro faceplate. Have always loved the design of the GameBoy Mirco.
Consider me a huge fan of your work Wiggy

I'd definitely pick up the DMG-01 faceplate!

I like em both, I'd pick up one of each!!

Just received my 4 double-UGCs for housing my Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP, as well as my custom modded GBA with backlight, painted clear blue, as well as its double-UGC.
Everything is very very well made and I'm very pleased! I highly recommend Wiggy's work! And I will definitely be buying from him again! ;D
-
I sent you a PM a few days ago about my DS cases, I finally can get them off your hands.
-
I saw it. I've got a backlog of PMs that I'm trying to get to today.

So here's the clear blue that I made for our good friend, Tyrannical Fascist
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/wiggyx/Wiggy%20Design/1-2.jpg)
I actually have one of the clear blue, a clear red, and a satin inferno metallic all for sale right now PLUS I have kits back in stock.

Love this thing. Wiggy made it just as I asked! Very pleased. It does everything except make me a cup of coffee. :P
-
I DOES make hot cocoa though. Still working on the coffee issue...
:P
-
Even though I got confused by your packaging design, I really like the work you do. Have you ever attempted making a GBA SP shell completely from scratch? You mentioned being able to cast different parts, so I was just wondering. Ideally, I'd love to have an exact replica of the NES-styled shell, unless you have one that's in great condition.
-
so wiggy are those gba back lighted? they look fantastic, what is the price tag for the red clear one?
-
They sure are!
I'm doing 155 shipped for the red ones right now. I just sold one last night and am making 2 more as I type this (well, the paint is drying as I type this). One is gonna be a little extra special. I'll post pics soon...

-
Is that your painting rack, or is that a new sculpture for your game room? ::)
-
:P
Ghetto foam core painting rigs, for sure.
-
Ever thought of making clear green gba? I might be interested in one in the next couple months.
-
I don't think I can find anything in a rattle can to do that job, so it'd have to be proper automotive candy paint. It would be pricey, but I can definitely do it for ya.
Actually, I think I just found something rattle can that'll work for ya ;)
-
:D Awesome. It will be a little bit before I actually have left over money (most of it is tied up with college and the video games I had already planned on getting), so I'll pm you when i'm ready to order ;D I just wanted to make sure I could get my favourite colour first.
-
For sure! Just lemme know. I plan on making these for a while to come (as long as people keep buying them).
On a related, side note. I'm up to no good again. Expect to see a VERY custom GBA in the next few days...

G'bye buttons! See you in about 24 hours.
-
What the frak are you up to....
-
What the frak are you up to....
It looks like he is going to recast his own buttons :)
-
Yes, this!
They're gonna go into a pretty out there GBA that I'm building right now. Then I plan on some micro buttons to compliment the DMG micro faceplates that I've got ordered ;)
-
nes style buttons, nes style faceplate.
-
For thise batch, clear red.
I'm gonna make maroon and red for the DMG and NES styles, don't worry ;)
-
Now this sounds very awesome.....
-
Preview time!

It's a vid, click it.
Now just imagine clear red buttons all lit up ;D
-
that's cool wiggy very nice.... :o
-
Thanks! There is NOT a lot of room to work with in there, so getting those two SMDs in was tricky.
-
I wish i had your modding skills or patience.. I have done light modding and some painting as well.. and it's a lot work ... working with a solder gun is not my best point.. I do ok with paint l want to try to add VGA to a dreamcast. I have done some s-video to genesis but nothing fancier than that.. ???question what kind of soldering gun do you use or recommend. all i have is a cheapo harbor freight and it sucks for some reason they tip always melts . i'm not sure what i am doing wrong... any pointers wiggy..

You're not doing anything wrong, you're just using lead-free solder. It eats tips :(
Just keep a wet sponger, tinner, and some rosin flux on hand at all times.
I use an 8 dollar 15W RadioShit iron for 90% of what I do. I just keep lots of extra tips on hand and a file ;)
-
thanks for the tip wiggy. ;D
-
No prob!
People seem to think you need a really nice iron to do little detail work, but you totally don't. Just having all the tools and materials is really what matters. The rosin flux helps a TON with lead-free solder. It's a real pain in the butt otherwise.
Ok, so I made yet another clear red GBA today (which is up for grabs), the light-up GBA buttons shops be good to come out of the mold later today (super excited about that), and I'm transforming a beat shell and lens into something that I think will be pretty slick.
Gonna sell all of it off ASAP to try and get myself that 3D printer I've been talking about. I'm tired of waiting, and it needs to happen now so I can really start getting head idea of mine to market for all of ya!
Was even thinking about doing a mini-kickstarter type deal to help make that happen even faster. Not would mean some cool custom stuff for the donors, that's for sure ;D
-
Into the light up red GBA they will go!

lookin' good, so far!
are you gonna have LED's around the d pad and buttons?
-
Very impressive mod with the buttons and D-pad, Wiggy. You never answered my earlier question, though; will you be doing your own NES style shell replicas for the GBA SP?
-

are you gonna have LED's around the d pad and buttons?
Prolly not. I don't want to put too much strain on the batteries. There are just two SMD LEDs in there now, and they do put off pretty decent light. I think I might cast some clear side "bumpers" and impregnate them with LEDs what I do the casting. I think that'll really give the most bang for lighting buck plus they'll actually be a lot easier for me to seal with as far as wiring goes.

Nope.
Need input, folks! Either here or on my blog. Lemme know what you think of these.
-
They are both awesome! Exactly how i was imagining. I especially like the NES themed one.
Both of those will be VERY tempting once they are made ;D
-
Brilliant in every way. :o I can't wait to see this things in physical form.
-
Thanks guys!
The only thing that they'll really NEED to complete that look is the buttons. Needless to say, I'm tearing open a few of my micros tonight in order make a gang mold so I can crank our 4 or 5 sets at once ;D
-
Ya man, the nes and game boy style are sweet!!
-
Thanks! Hopefully I'll have the plates and buttons together as kits soon.
-
Thanks! Hopefully I'll have the plates and buttons together as kits soon.
The first 2 faceplates look fantastic. I'm going to have to start buying up some more micros.
-
needs more megaman, but other than that.
-
I think I'll do a lot more character-based faces in the next batch :)
-
OK, so I needed to order a few more in order to make the batch a bit more affordable, and of course I couldn't help but add more designs ;D
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/wiggyx/Wiggy%20Design/preview-3.png)
-
Awesome! Maybe you could make one based on the Game Gear, similar to your GB and NES faceplates.
-
Ok, i'll be snapping these up. That Gameboy one and the Kirby one are killer.
-
heh, because of the speaker holes, it looks like megaman is getting shot at.
-
Pew pew pew!
Luckily they'll be black when installed ;)
-

Just sorted out the plan for the first batch of repros with my partner. Gonna start off with a limited set of sorts to give you guys a taste of what we're trying to accomplish with the brand. Also, I went ahead and put a FB page up (even though I'm not the biggest FB user). I'll try and keep it packed full of the goofy game crap that I'm working on everyday that's just worth an entire post on the blog.

Big ol' update on the blog today ;D
-
Hey wiggs I sent ya a message on your FB page =D
-
I was super swamped yesterday. I think I see a comment on the blog too. Replying to all that good stuff now...
Some news coming later today...
-
Hehe np Wiggs. Sorry if it seems I'm being impatient. I just have my hand on the trigger to not let that eBay auction I mentioned to you slip away lol. I look forward to seeing your new custom repros!
-
Just post it you tease!
-
You should think about modding a limited edition case for Kirby Air Ride. ;)
$10, btw.
-
Just post it you tease!
Not done yet :P
-
Micro faceplates are in and info about Nomad mods are up on the blog!
-
Hey Wig, those micro faceplates have a lens over the screen or does it ait underneath? Never taken apart a micro to look.
-
Not quite sure what you're asking. The faceplate covers the entire micro. There's nothing underneath to protect the micro between the faceplate and LCD (which is pretty lame if you ask me)
-
Wow so its just a bare LCD? Interesting choice Nintendo...
-
Impressive. Most impressive. 8)
-

Yeah, sorta stupid, eh?
-
I have to be honest wiggs, the micro faceplates wasn't the update I was hoping for.....hint hint custom repro =p
-
I'm working on it. Only so much I can do at one time ;D
-
hehe I hear ya. I would buy a micro faceplate..... if I owned a micro =D Going to focus on filling my library with nglish friendly titles of that wonderswan your lighting up for me before I get any other handhelds =D
-
I don't have a micro either, and I'm getting two micro faceplates anyways! ;D
I think getting those will motivate me to finally track down a micro.
Wiggy, you might want to update your first post with all your latest offerings like the Nomad mod and Micro faceplates. I also wonder if you can add a sort of master products and services post on your blog that similarly has everything you offer? That way people can easily find all the services you offer without scrolling through a bunch of posts in the future.
-
Ah, that's a good point (about the 1st post).
I want to do so much more with the blog, I'm just sorta new to the whole thig and have so little time to really dig into it. Anyone here familiar with the wordpress interface and wanna give me a little help? I'll gladly trade out mods and stuff for the help ;D
-
I could take a look. I use Wordpress on my spoofwarsfilms.com site. 8)

Any updates on your repros? Like which ones you will offer and how much they will cost?
-
Very soon...
-
Big, BIG updates and news coming up, folks!
Anyone with a deposit down for a Gameboy Advance light+ need not wait much longer. The resupply has arrived!
Considering the recent HUGE influx in business and a couple of other things on the horizon, a 3D printer can wait no more. I will be ordering a printer this week!
Keep an eye on the blog and FB for updates, as always.
-
Custom Zelda Repros ftw!
-
Oh sweet! I've just started playing A Link to the Past recently and I'm really enjoying it, so 2 more similar games sounds fantastic!
3D printer looks awesome - I can't wait to see what you do with it. 8)
-
Nice! I was just wondering about modded GBCs. And the repros too. Looking good!
-
I am just curious what that 3d printer will be used for? ???
excited about the GBA+ :)
-
LOTS of stuff ;)
-
oh i can think a few stuff that can be done with a 3d printer, looking forward to it
-
^^^ this guy knows what's coming up ;)
But seriously, I want to tackle a handful of small items first like buttons, replacement parts for worn and broken items, then possibly offering über custom mini SNES units like my protoype and eventually bigger, far more complex stuff.
-
:-X i have a better idea of what it does now awesome :o
-
But seriously, I want to tackle a handful of small items first like buttons, replacement parts for worn and broken items
Oh yeah like those custom clear GBA buttons. Those look cool.
-
that machine mustve been insanely expensive
-
You can check their site. It ain't cheap, that's for sure.
-
sorta feel like I'm overstepping my boundaries with this, so I'm gonna keep the Real Exciting Popular Reality Objects to the blog from now on ;)
edit: Azarkhel, don't kill me for all the teasing. Just about done...
Teasing, that is ;)
-
3D printer :o you didn't tell me about THAT
-
3d printer possibilities, hrm, mind just went crazy.
curious, do you know a round about price for say a 1" cube? Been interested in them but dont see much on printing costs
-
I'm watching you Wig...

You never asked :P
3d printer possibilities, hrm, mind just went crazy.

ENDLESS! Literally! This will be the single best or absolute worst purchase I've ever made. It'll go one of two ways. 1, I get lots of cool new ideas out to sell and it really helps me speed up my process, or 2, I spend EVERY day just modeling and printing cool shit! LOL!
You want a printed 1x1x1 cube? I have no idea on price until I have the machine and tack a stab at it. It will be able to tell me how much material a part will require before I print, and then I can estimate cost.
I'll probably have to ask again later, but are you looking for hollow or solid, and if hollow, what wall thickness? That'll make a HUGE difference in price.
I'm watching you Wig...
;)
Also, anyone waiting for PM replies, hang in there. I am absolutely, positively working at max capacity in every sense on top of having to swap my bedroom and studio space around this week. Sucks how just moving stuff 20 feet from one room to another can be such a huge ordeal. Ugh.
-
I can think of two ways to make stuff with a 3D Printer.
1. Print parts, then paint them and/or do some light sanding, then sell them.
2. Use 3D Printed Stuff as a basis for making molds out of silicone or ceramic or whatever,
then use the Molds to duplicate the item using a wide variety of resins, epoxys, and so on.
-
^ would definitely cut cost to make molds
-
Yup, that's exactly what I plan on doing (both methods). Whether I make molds or not for a part or parts will mostly depend on whether I plan to sell in large enough volume to warrant such (silicone molds have a shelf life, and it ain't that long) or that the parts take well to the casting process. I already make lots of silicone molds for the replacement buttons and whatnot, and I have a good supply of repro plastics and resin materials here :)
-
I was just using a 1" cube as sort of a reference, trying to gauge material costs lol. Like if you were to make a reproduction button for a controller I would be curious the actual print/material cost of doing just one
-
I'll let you know once I know LOL! ;) It's about 50 bucks for 2.25 pounds of the ABS or PLA material. I'm SURE the software will give me a weight estimate or some sort of materials usage estimate.
sorta feel like I'm overstepping my boundaries with this stuff, so I'm gonna keep info about the Real Exciting Popular Reality Objects to the blog from now on ;)
As always, more to come...
-
My body (wallet) is ready!
-
I must have one!
-
Do want.
-
told you wiggy, the wiggy's way is the holy grail hehe, need to make more lmao
-
Very nice. How much would you want for a single gold cartridge shell, no labels or gameboard?
-
That's not something I really have time for.
-
how do i go about acquiring one of these sets
-
That's not something I really have time for.
OK, so what kind of paint and clear coating do you use for them?
-
There is a how-to on wiggy's site that could be useful to you. Might try it myself one of these days...
-
^^^ this.
-
your box of goodies is in the mail, good sir :) I think I know what I want to use some of my "store credit" for too
-
;)
-
I read your "how-to" page Wiggy, but what color gold do you use for those carts?
-
http://www.krylon.com/products/premium_metallic/
"18 KT. Gold Plate"

Hey Wiggy, how do you think this looks like compared to the actual gold carts? The picture was really impressive. It's making me want to put my grey cart Zelda games in new shells (still keeping the original shell safely tucked away, obviously).
-
Twins? ;)

Twins? ;)
Well, that settles it! They really do look great.
-
Oh I will be purchasing both of these. Totally smashing out a RCG repro collection.
EDIT: Quick question, which ROM were you using for the Parallel Worlds cart? Remodel or original?
-
It's. So. Beautiful.
-
with RCG offering Repros in the future, will we be able to talk about the site openly or not???
-
with RCG offering Repros in the future, will we be able to talk about the site openly or not???
On the other site, Nintendo-mania.org
-
I know that I'm not going to talk about them here, for what it's worth.
Also, for the foreseeable future, they won't appear in any sort of webstore on the site (when that part goes live). Just going to stick with very limited run box sets and whatnot offered very quietly to those that are interested. I wanna keep it pretty low on the radar.
So, hopefully that won't cause trouble here. But if it does, I totally understand.
-
FINALLY got around to the new faceplate designs today. Let me hear some feedback here, on the blog, FB, wherever :)

Really nice looking especially the Charizard one :) However, maybe having the Tri-Force in the bottom left corner like the Poke Ball may look nicer, it looks a little lost over the design IMO but overall great job!
-
Thanks!
It's tricky since there's so little real estate on the damn things. It's hard to visualize until one's in front of you. I might all but obliterate the triforce if I have to put it on the left. But, I'll give it a go and I can also tone the contrast down on the other graphics to make the gold pop more ;)
Also, this just happened. My wordpress app is beeping at me like non-stop :o

Great article! Hit me up tonight via text if you want to straighten out your Product & Services and How to Order pages to prepare for the onslaught of requests you'll get now. ;)

Most definitely will!

So I made a batch of Retrobright for a customer's Wonderswan the other day. I was skeptical, but I'm a believer now, needless to say ;D

Finally Got around to reading that article on nintendo life, soon I'll be able to say "I knew wiggy before he was famous!" lol :P
I was wondering if you had an ETA on when you'll be selling GG back lights?
Also, I know you've done a few nomad screen replacements now, are you using the Chinese back up camera LCD's or in your godlike modding powers, did you find something better? The LCD I put in my nomad had dead pixels a week after installing (several clusters around where the text appears while playing phantasy star -_-)

Impressive. Most impressive.

Cant wait to get my hands on it =D
-
Just remember that Retrobright's only a temporary fix. Because of the original problem, the only permanent solution is painting over it.

That is what I'm using for the Nomad mods. I have seen other folks have issues with them, but I've ha good luck so far.
Not 100% sure on the GG. Working out the bugs on the prototype for this guy VVV

I know, right?!
After the WS, I did a few slightly yellowed white GBA shells that seriously look as good as new now and I've for a few really ugly DMG shells in the bath right now to see how far this stuff will go.
Cant wait to get my hands on it =D
It's all packed and ready to go!

Congrats on getting on Gonintendo.com wiggy! Was pleasantly surprised to see you on the ir front page for the gameboy advance you restored. Will you ever write up how to guides, or do youtube videos of each of your restoration processes? At the very least, you should do a youtube video of your workstation where all the magic happens.
-
I probably will. Just a matter of when I can get to it. I did a couple of quick, crummy panoramic shots though. You can kinda get a feel for the space.

Just put the shelving for shipping supplies up in the closet today and some hanging files behind my desk, which cleaned up a huge mess that I couldn't do much about before. I think I'm like 95% good to go now ;D
-
I like the Zelda Goddess of Wisdom UGC cover on the monitor! And an NES controller faceplate.....maybe a future RCG product!?!? Id definetly be in for some of those!
-
Good eye! Yup, that's been on my list of to-dos for a while now. Just gotta scan it and make a template...
-
wiggy.. not sure if you've noticed but i sent you an email a couple days ago.
-
I haven't, but that's just because I'm trying like crazy to get caught up. Haven't forgotten about anyone.

Sweet! Orange is my favorite colour BTW... ;)
-
I'm finding more and more that a LOT (if not nearly all) of my resources in the automotive modification world can provide me with products and services that I can use for game stuff. If you didn't know, before I got back into gaming, I did a LOT of custom car stuff in the same vein as what I'm doing now. I.e. Custom, hack and slash type stuff. The longer I'm in business for myself, the more I learn it is ABSOLUTELY who you know over what you know.
Anyway, those overlays. I used a vendor who produces custom gauge cluster, HVAC, etc overlays for various auto applications back when I was doing the car stuff. Just so happens that his products employ pretty much the EXACT same material which NES and SNES controller overlays are made from. These should be a snap once I get 5 minutes to scan and re-draw them. Plus, like the micro faceplates, they can be built to order. 100% custom ;D

I like the sounds of that! I have a nice little stash of extra NES controllers so it'll be nice to have some fun with them.
Ive always had this original NES controller with orange buttons (apperently released early after launch and pretty limited, cant seem to find anything on them what so ever), and I want to grab one of those orange D-Pad buttons from the old NES controller repair kits. Complete with a sexy custom orange faceplace from RCG and bam! I have my dream NES controller!.
-
I'm sure wiggy can make you an orange d-pad (and buttons, so the colors match), considering he makes buttons for his GBAs
-
There's already a guy that does that actually.

Just out of curiosity how long did it take to make the wiggy smiley face? Not including set up and design.
-
Is the plastic overly brittle when the printing is done?
-
Just out of curiosity how long did it take to make the wiggy smiley face? Not including set up and design.
Took about 10-15 minutes from the moment I hit print to completed part. It's 1.5" in diameter (pretty much a ping pong ball). It has a 1mm wall thickness.
Is the plastic overly brittle when the printing is done?
I'm using their newer plastic called "PLA" which is supposed to be about as tough as ABS. But, it is a printed part, so it will be more fragile. That said, I was sanding the smiley with some 100 grit and a good amount of force to smooth him out and I had no problems despite it being a very thin part :D

Hey Wiggy! I just had a quick question. I already know you are quite well versed with gaming systems and I was hoping you might be able to mod a top loader nes by adding an av component and led power indicator. I figured it would be best to ask you since even if you aren't sure how to/ don't want to do it you most likely know someone who can mod my nes for a reasonable price. Thanks for your help! ;D

Do you want Composite (yellow plug) or Component (Red, Green and Blue plugs)? 'Cause if you want a Component mod be prepared for ultimate wallet destruction.
-
I'm using a new process with new materials (thank you, Shoothimnow), so they are cleaner than ever and the sleeve looks much closer to the ones used on the UGCs in the first place. Will look great on the shelf next to all your other totally sweet cased games ;D
This material your using to replace the sleeves with, care to share what it is ??? ??? ??? I have 2 UGC and a handful of DS cases that could do with new sleeves, and after taking a look at your double UGC video, I reckon I could give it a go at replacing them ;D ;D ;D

I want a composite video mod. I know they're a little pricey but I knew that all along. I honestly would rather pay someone from TCP than someone I don't know.
-
I reckon your looking at around $300 just for the parts to do the mod mate, labour costs on such a pain in the arse job is gunna hurt too.

At this point it might be worth waiting, since the RetroZone guy is working on an HDMI mod for the toploader NES.
-
At this point it might be worth waiting, since the RetroZone guy is working on an HDMI mod for the toploader NES.
Is there one for toaster?
-
Right now it's only being designed for toploader, but the only reason for that distinction is the physical design of the new video board, which piggybacks onto the PPU. Its current design is for the positioning of the PPU on the toploader. A toaster model of the mod will be completely possible, they're just focusing efforts on the toploader right now.
Since Lexi was asking about a composite mod, she logically has a toploader (since toasters already have composite)
-

No NES has Component.
Component = Red, green & blue RCA
Composite = Yellow RCA

WOW! Do want! That is one seriously, SERIOUSLY crisp image! I thought my SNES mini with S-vid looked crisp, but now I feel like it's an Atari 2600 with a half busted RF modulator.

I used to use them for scale models, great product. No chance of getting the logos screen printed?
-
Not in the scale/quantity that I do :/ I've got a buddy that works for a screen printer and they don't even wanna touch my projects LOL! The owner told me "yeah, we can do it, but I'm gonna charge you a ton." I don't blame him. It's a lot of work for such a tiny order.

That reminds me, any chance you painted a pink N64 cart for a trade we somewhat talked about?
-
LOL, thanks guys! ;D I'm pretty happy with it. My wife thinks it's like the cutest thing ever. Thank goodness she's not a gamer otherwise it might not find its way out of the house :P
That reminds me, any chance you painted a pink N64 cart for a trade we somewhat talked about?
Not yet, but I can do that at a moment's notice. Just trying to get caught up with everything, as usual. I'm actually gonna have to put a freeze on new modded GBA orders. I'm so buried in pre-orders that my current supply of parts and the supply that's on its way are all accounted for :o Crazy busy! Time management is my newest business priority and ongoing self-taught lesson.
Also, made this while I was working on Kirby. I have a bunch of busted micros that can be Frankensteined into working units, so why not make a Forte Blue Bomber special? ;)

Hit up the blog, folks. That's all I'm gonna say.

1) The glitter on the Kirby unit is a little much for me, but it looks fantastic nonetheless.
2) That's a pretty blue. Not actually sure what it is I'm looking at though
3) Went to your blog. Boy, I might as well give up on the idea of getting one.

I don't own a micro, but if you're gonna make a custom Mega Man micro, then perhaps I should.
And I hope there will be more. If my car wasn't falling apart, I might have the currency for one, but I think I'd be quickly outbid anyway.
-
What happened to the ebay auctions you had listed?
-
I took em down. The comments in the Nintendolife article got outta control, and I didn't want to deal with the BS.
-
I saw that. Very unfortunate. Hope that all doesn't have any affect on RCGs modding business you have going. :-\
-
It appears as though NintendoLife removed it's news article about the two homebrew games, as well as the comments about it.
Thats' probably for the best.
However, other NL news articles, about different RCG products, are still up, and I take that as a good omen. ;)
Even though the auctions have been taken down,
I still need to get a small safe, while I'm out, tomorrow,
but I digress...

I actually asked them to take it down, and they were more than happy to. Lesson learned there I guess.
I don't foresee any of that mess presenting any big problems for me. The auctions were really just a nice way to give everyone a shot at a set. Too bad a few dickbags had to play internet police and cause problems.
-
So sick of these fucking white knights defending the "sanctity" of Nintendos' early legacy. There's a fight over repros every week over at NintendoAge, it's always boring and identical to past discussions. Bottom line, if your not making copies of games that were released at retail, who gives a shit? A couple of new hacks/translations get put out every year and people get to expand their collections with new games. It's hardly a malevolent act.
It only becomes an issue when people are bootlegging released games, sell on ebay with false descriptions or gouge the fuck out of people who want them with their prices. I'm well aware of how much these things cost to make and 95% of repro makers are over charging without offering any extras to make the cost worthwhile.
-
i seen their comments and im sorry as well to hear that the auctions were canceled.
-
Meh, it was my choice, and it just means selling the people that I know then.
Shoulda just done it that way in the first place I guess ;)
-
Fuck 'em, I bid on your games wiggy (though I didn't surpass the reserve price :P )... It's a shame the web is full of idiots.
-
What a nightmare and how annoying. Well you will definitely have no problem selling them yourself w/out the auction. ;D
-
Definitely not hard at all to unload ;)
-
No, that he won't. It is a shame about the A holes that complain. At some point they will have to get over it.
They just arnt cool or smart enough to do it themselves, that's why they get all pissy. ::)
-
I can't understand why some people seem to make it a personal quest to thwart such things, as if it's somehow personally hurting them ???
-
Oh look, positive publicity :D

Good thing my girl dosnt check gaming sites eh? Haha.
-
Yeah, that thing is getting spread around a bit now :P
-
The guys at Nintendo Life are big fans of yours, Matt.
-
Nice, congratulations on the Kotaku article.
-
Sorry to hear about what happened yesterday. It seems the internet has some people who derive pleasure solely from hurting others as running things for everyone. I don't understand why they would have a problem with your work unless they were really insecure about themselves.
Don't despair though, this is just a small pot hole on the road of success for RCG. :)
-
There's a chance that those who felt hurt are no other than reproductions sellers trying to take down the competition. The usual business' dirty tactics.
-
I dont get all of the reproduction cart hate.
I personally think its cool, and love seeing people take a professional approach to it. and No..... flash carts aren't as fun.
I think it would be cool if someone would make custom Printed Circuit Boards, and shells. That would make eprom insertion easy.
That way the seller would not be selling any licensed material, and fans wouldnt have to search out lame sports games to use as donors.

People have. RetroUSB and TWG both use 100% donor free parts for their NES games, it's just very expensive to set up. For the record though, it's still selling licensed material.
-
^^^ my exact response.
We're looking into TSOP and custom boards, but it's mondo pricey. Not something that would happen any time soon, that's for sure.
-

I was talking about the board and case only no licensed game. (Unless by licensed material you mean the lockout chip)
I dont know how the ciclone multi region lockout chip works or what part of Nintendo's original programing is used in it.
However Retro USB no longer makes reproductions (only homebrew), and *beep* uses donor carts last I checked.
+++++Replaced reproduction site name with *beep* to comply with forum rules.++++
-
The licensing is only relevant when it comes to the content being sold on the cart. Popping chips with licensed games on them out of donors isn't any sort of problem.

Last time you checked you would have been right. NES boards are now 100% new. SNES is still donor at the moment.

Busy busy busy! Can't keep up :/
Wrapped (or am wrapping) up a ton of portable mods this week. Still have quite a few to go, but at least the majority are done or just about done.
All of a sudden micro mods are hot. Wonder why ;) There's a metallic brown one in the back there that's gonna get a Pikachu faceplate and brown buttons. Should look really nice when it's all done. The brown kicks ass. It's a really mature color in my opinion and has a good amout of metallic in it. I'll have more pics when it's done, obviously. Wrapping up the Megaman micro as well and will be starting another custom this week for a customer.
The NGP will be getting some white stripes a la MVS arcade graphic scheme.
And the bread winners, backlit GBAs out the yin yang. Translucent red, by far the most popular, translucent green (I'm looking at you, Palmer :P ), translucent blue, smoke, gunmetal, metallic red, and a slew of other non-painted units not in this shot. About 15 total to invoice for with about 5 more to build. I never woulda guessed that the modded GBAs would be so popular! I wish I could crank out a hundred of these at once. Can't make em fast enough.
Also, should have some updates on the Nomad X mods, some new RCG branded stuff soon like Tshirts, stickers, and hats, plus I plan on finally putting the 3D printer to work :)

I have a question for you, how do you remove the screen protector on the original GBA? I've got mine all pulled apart for cleaning, and I ordered a replacement screen cover to make sure I'm scratch free. But I don't know how to get the old one out. Do I just push on it from the inside, or what?
-
LOL! People actually get "pissy" about reproduction cartridges? Fuck em. I'd buy a reproduction cart of Demon's Crest in a heart beat. I can't afford the 100 Euro price tag at the moment. I'd love an original cart, but I wouldn't be bothered or continue to pursue the original cart any further, if there was a reproduction cart going for 50 Euro or under on the market.
-

Yup, just push! It's glued on, that's all.

Do as Wiggy has said, but if its really stuck there, try letting it soak in water for the night. Baby/Cooking I oil would be good too, as it loosens up glue pretty well, and as you won't be using that screen again, it doesn't really matter what happens to it. You can just clean the casing with some warm water soapy water.
-
I've never had a single GBA with a lens that won't pop off by just pushing, and I've torn down 100+ ;)
Just keep on pushin' on! ;D
-
Just push it really hard. You won't hurt anything. I've switched quite a few of those little lenses before :)
-
Yeah, I got the lens off easy enough. Hot soapy water and a toothbrush worked great to clean out the case too. Now I'm just waiting for my new lens to arrive that I can get it all back together.
-
You getting a plastic or glass lens?
-
Plastic I assume, I just grabbed the cheapest one off eBay.
-
Cool beans.
Just an FYI, those lenses scuff/scratch REALLY easily. Like, a microfiber towel will scuff them :-\ I've got glass lenses if you ever want one. They're pretty dang sweet IMO :)
-
I expect my new GBA to get little play, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the heads up.
-
No prob!
So, had some business "pickups" today :P I've needed a lot of this stuff for a while now, and with 100+ micro faceplates here to clean up and package, I bit the bullet.

New Dremel since my old one is noisy as hell and only has 2 speeds, sweet Dremel drill press-type jig thing, new guillotine cutter, new hot knife (old one took a crap on me), and some Glacier GBA shells.

Don't forget about Pokemon Pinball too!

So, my wife has gone into labor a tad early (32 weeks). She's been in be hospital for the last 4 or 5 days, and baby isn't interested in waiting anymore. I think baby might take after me in that way. Probably bored out of its mind in there after 8 months of sitting around doing nothing :P
Anyway, it sort of goes without saying that I've been away from my desk for a few days and I'm rather behind on everything from answering emails/PMs/blog comments, to completing mods, to pretty much everything else that I do from day-to-day.
Gotta run. Be back with updates as they come.
-
Good luck Wiggy. Hope everything goes OK. And congrats.

My ? is "where do they go?" You take it off and put batteries in there then you put it right back on. How does it get lost in that time frame?
-
My guess is that you ut the cart in drawer, it tumbles around, cover falls off, sibling takes the game and plays not minding the missing cover and so the locations the 2 are separated.
Happened to me too many times. :(
-
Good luck with the delivery.

4-19-2013 Notice: Please excuse and delay in email/blog/FB/forum replies, shipping, or the completion of orders. To make a long story short, my wife went into labor at 32 weeks on the 16th. What preceded that were other related issues which required a LOT of my time and attention in the 2 weeks leading up to the delivery. We had a healthy baby boy and I'm just now getting back to my desk to answer emails and get orders moving again. I'm so terribly sorry if this has caused any inconvenience or problems. Rest assured, I will take care of any issues, questions, or concerns as soon as humanly possible. Thank you for your patience.
I am putting a hold on any incoming orders for custom items until I can get caught up. I will resume taking pre-orders/orders for custom items once I've managed to catch up a bit. Keep an eye on the blog and Facebook pages for updates regarding my return to accepting new orders. I will continue to take orders for production items such as the micro faceplates, backlight kits, & Glass GBA lenses in the meantime.
If you already have an order placed or have sent an item or items in to be modded, then rest assured that you’ll be taken care of. I will not be canceling any orders as of this moment.
Thank you,
wiggy
update: Of course I try and print a few things this morning and my printer starts hemorrhaging black ink. There's literally a pool of the shit on the tray. Fucking great. So, put that aside and finish my yogurt I guess. No prob, until the spoon slips and a giant blob hits my keyboard. Man, I can't catch a break. At least I have a squeaky clean keyboard and printer now :)
Just gotta figure out where that ink is coming from and why...

This includes my Playstation right? Congrats on the baby wiggy. I know that they require a ton of attention so try not to stress it too hard.

Your printer became so acustomed to a heavy workload that when it finally was given a chance to rest it died.
-
LOL, tell me about it!
NOBODY'S been forgotten. I've got the PSone line up nextto the zillion other items that I need to finish up :)
-
Your printer became so acustomed to a heavy workload that when it finally was given a chance to rest it died.
Dear Lord, I opened it up over the weekend to attempt repair. The drip tray foam bits were like beyond saturated and the tube meant to carry overflow to the drip tray was clogged to death. Actually says a lot about the printer. I've probably printed thousands of sheets beyond what it was ever expected to in its lifetime. Took 2 rolls of paper towels, 30-40 Q-tips, roughly 250ml of isopropyl to clean the surfaces, at least a dozen pairs of Nitrile gloves, and then another ~1000ml of isopropyl to soak the foam ink absorption pads in to get them de-gunked. What a mess. This was the last thing that I had time for at this point.
Slapped it back together. Gonna print a few sheets. Wish me luck!
If that didn't fix it, it's going to be thrown off my roof later today. Seriously.
Next up, regroup and streamline. I'm probably gonna shut down for the month of May in order to totally revamp the site, add new content that's been on the back burner FOREVER, adjust the product and service lineup, and seek some outsourcing for existing and new products/services in order to keep up with the pace. Doing this all on my own has become technically impossible. Luckily I've got a couple of fellow TCPers on board to help out some and I'm talking with a couple of folks/companies about help with other stuff. I really want to have more products "in stock", which I can't do right now because of the whole one-man-show thing. I want a giant pile of modded GBAs sitting here ready to go! Growing pains suck, but I'm happy that the biz is growing and not deflating ;D
Back to PMs and emails...
-
Be sure to record the chucking of said printer off roof, if it comes down to it. ;D
-
Oh dude, you KNOW I will! ;)

Never heard of this but sounds cool. Just checked and it's only a 2 1/2 hour drive for me so I'm strongly considering it. I need to figure out which one of my friends I can drag with me.

Thanks! The guy that runs the show really digs it, which makes me happy :)

I would think that NYC, of all places, WOULD have something like that :/
That said, there's a pretty kick-ass retro shop (http://www.videogamesnewyork.com/) that might be carrying RCG products in the near future...

Wow, very cool Wiggy!
Thanks! 'Twas fun to make. I had planned to donate a backlight kit, but that presupposes the winner owns a GBA to mod, would be able to mod it on their own, plus there are 2 versions of the GBA, so I'd need to know which version of GBA the winner has in order to get them the correct kit, blah blah blah. This seemed like a far simpler and cooler prize :)

Do it! It's a really dorky good time! It was packed last year, and it sounds like this year is gonna be pretty nutso :D And despite being packed full, people were still really polite and the vendors/sellers were all really relaxed, even with a dozen people hovering over their tables at any given moment.
I used to drive to the D pretty often. It's not a bad haul at all.
-
Wiggy, do you do any molding? I'm all about clear consoles and controllers and I'm looking for a clear NES controller right now.
-
hey wiggy shoot me a text whenever you have time so we can discuss my GBA amongst other things ;)

What controller mods are you going to offer? I remember you were working on wireless controllers but don't remember what happened with that. I would kill for a wireless Saturn controller (that isn't crap).
-
I'm working with Zeanhaven on it still. We're both really busy, and both have newborn children, so it's taking longer than I'd like, but that's to be expected at this point.
They guy who came up with the original design for the mod had no interest in letting me pay him to use his design/hex files, so I'm gonna respect that as best I can and we'll just rework it into our own design. It's all off-the-shelf parts, so there's no problem there.
Kills me that the guy wouldn't just let me give him money to license what amounts to a tiny .hex file. Nothing else about the setup is proprietary. Oh well.
-
I too am seeking wireless SNES and 64 controllers. Wiggy knows this. I actually contacted you, I think, with that guy's design for the SNES a while back. It would be awesome if you started cranking those out. I'd buy one for sure. Maybe even 2!

And your link is broken btw.

Just saw something the other day about Retro-Bit doing some of these later this year. The article said they would have something to show at E3 which is just a few weeks away.
-
There are already wireless controllers from retrobit, but they're aftermarket, and this sorta iffy.
The plan I have is to offer wireless upgrade kits for original SNES and other controllers ;)
-
I own the retro bit controllers for SNES. they are not very good. when you are pressing up on the directional pads. it also presses right which makes it hard to play a lot of games. I would just stick to using the official nintendo controllers over retro-bit.
And that game boy color looks amazing!
-
Good to know. I was keeping those in the back of my mind. Won't bother with them.
-
Wiggy If I get into University I might have to make a custom order with you for a special gameboy to celebrate. ^^
May I ask what is the average price so that I can save till then (I'm talking about ordering in maybe 3-4 months)

I know, I have some SNES ones and they are terrible but these were supposed to be different somehow. Wireless for original controllers would be amazing.

Luckily the SNES Controller's cord plugs in to the PCB,
instead of the soldiered connection that Sega did with their controllers.
Making a Wireless Upgrade for Sega Controllers is still doable, if Wiggy wants to do that too, but it could mean more work for him (or everyone). :P
If it's a do-it-yourself-kit, it would be nice if he also included
a new internal connector/plug you can soldier to a Sega Controller PCB, that could act as a plug,
so we could more easily switch back to Wired,
or quickly swap in a later revision/new version of his Wireless Upgrade Kits for Sega Controllers.
OR, he could just make a whole new, one-piece PCB, that will not require the end-user so soldier anything. ;D
Actually, that would probably be the best option, since the original (pads on the PCB that the buttons jam into, in order to make an electrical bridge, unless it's magnetic) are probably worn out, anyway.

I was looking at the Retrobit wireless, but I held off to hear some other opinions after seeing this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_evK_phxhYE
I'd be interested in wirless snes controllers if someone made a nice one.

While I already had the tools and materials out to build the wiggy shelves 2.0, I figured I'd make a display case for be CCAG show next month since it was already on my list of to-dos :)

Yes that's right. You need a backlight to backlight your backlights!

'super like' ;D
How about the aqua one they showed alongside the orange one?
-
I'm trying that one right now actually ;D I had to resort to dying the bumpers/R/L buttons since they're too much trouble to cast. As such, I'm somewhat at the mercy of the color of the original parts, which is gray as you know. Certain colors take to the process better than others (black dye is only absorbed by SOME R&L buttons, but not at all by any of the other plastic parts. Buuuuut, if I "make" black by mixing a few darker colors that do work, then I can get a decent shade of black). This is why I hate dying versus casting parts, not to mention that my color palette is very limited with dyes :-\ The orange took to it well (though not as "neon" as I'd like it to be), but I'm having a harder time getting a vibrant teal color. Might try a chemical bleaching first.
I also totally melted a GBA shell trying to make an "ice blue" shade like the N64 came in for a fellow TCPer. I'll post a pic later. It made me chuckle when I pulled it from the dye bath. Sorta left it in 175* water for a few seconds to long. It's a molten mess. Maybe I can pass it off as "art"? :P

The link is not working but i did saw the how in your main page, very cool indeed but i don't have the patience to do all that, good thing you do and we all can buy them from you.. ;D
Fixed! Sorry about that. No idea how that happened :(
Yeah, it's a pain in the ass. I mostly did the writeup so people can see how much work it takes so that I'm not heckled to make a custom mold for a single casting for a single project. WAY too much work for doing that sort of thing unless you're doing it for yourself.
-
A lot of people think precision casting especially on handheld buttons is easy but even though i have never done anything like that I don't think it is. I'm sure you went though plenty of trial and error before you perfected your method most people will try it ones and if it doesn't work they will give up.
On a side note, Can you or have you done the turbografx region mod/switch I'm still planning on getting a working turbo and i would like it to be region modded so I can buy Pc engine games as well. I seen the mod online I don't think I can cut all those pins and rewire them to the switch...
-
I haven't done one yet, but I have a unit on the way that I plan to use for just that, so I'll let you know.
-
sounds good keep me posted because i would like to have that done, lately i have got the turbografx bug and i want to get one so bad and modding it would open doors to import released hub cards as well.
-
Hey I was just wondering, do I need to open up the micro to install the fancy pants buttons? I don't have a tri-wing screwdriver, so I might not be able to do it if that is the case.
-
Yes. It needs to be VERY opened to do so :(
So, I've got a little surprise planned for this weekend's re-opening. I think you'll all approve ;)

Hmm, I have no idea what that is but I'm pretty curious to find because it looks like its shaped like an NES cart to me! ;)
-
The first two thoughts that come to mind:
HAL 9000
and a Famicom Adapter for the NES.
-
Can I spill the beans Wiggy! But I know if I do that, then you will shun me from the table and kick me out of the building =(. Damn it, sorry guys. I tried, but IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still drooling over it =P

Red... NES cart... Circle... Mother / Earthbound Zero?
Grasping at straws

NES-related indeed ;)

No, not either of those two. Although I'd love a HAL-9000 of my own :P

I had NO idea that Rose zcolored Gaming was so epic!! I want to get a BL put in my lucky GBA, a front light on my NGPC. Are you up to putting a light or screen upgrade in a game.com pocket?
Color me impressed! When do you think you'll be able to start taking orders for mods?
-
The plan is to start taking on custom orders again this weekend. Hopefully, if all goes well, the web store should be up by then. The rosecoloredgaming.com URL will no longer redirect to the wordpress site, but instead be its own entity :) I've never looked into game.com mods. What are the dimensions of the screen?
Akumaizer, if you must, you must. I won't stop you :P
Smoooooooth, death awaits you at CCAG! 8)
And in another bit of news, If you wanna hear a little more about RCG, how I got started, and some generally dorky banter, then head on over to second opinion games and take a listen to the podcast interview ;D

First thing I thought when you posted about having a helper was, I wonder if he pays him his wage in games. Lo and behold, haha.

Great, gotta get that taken down. Thanks for the heads up. I've only ever posted really low res pics, so that's gotta look like crap in person. I like how he modified it and it looks like shit too. What the fuck is going on there?! Why invert Link's face and splice it with the GOW cover ???
-
Bring the fire Wig! Scorched earth tactics!
-
Guy took it right down. Said someone else made the cover for for him to sell and he had no idea where the original art came from. Prolly best to find someone else to help out with that in the future...
-
Dude, I would be so pissed!
-
That's not the idea of these page, the cover you all make or like me just modify are not for sale, is for personal use (that's what i think)
-
Dude, I would be so pissed!
It got resolved quickly and without incident. I'm really just curious where he got the art. I've only ever posted pretty low res stuff, so I wonder how those covers looked in person. I can't imagine very good :/
That's not the idea of these page, the cover you all make or like me just modify are not for sale, is for personal use (that's what i think)
That's just it, I haven't even shared that art and don't plan to. I created it for products that I sell and want/need to keep it exclusive in order for it to be of any value to me. Short of scanning one of the sets themselves, there's really no way to get a high-res version, and I'm pretty damned sure that the folks who purchased the sets did no such thing. I've shared pretty much EVERYTHING else that I've created as far as covers go, even those that have artwork that I created on my own from scratch. Anything I post here is fair game for everyone to use for personal purposes.
Update: The webstore is up-and-running! (well, for the most part. It'll be up and down all day while we make some tweaks). If the store is down when you try and visit, then it'll redirect you to the wordpress blog. Just check back later if that happens.

.... there's really no way to get a high-res version ....
Oh i bet i could recreate it but i would NEVER do that as an artist or to you (no worries ;) ). I doubt they would go this far though. They probably just took the low res pic and just slapped it on there.
EDIT:
I am glad you have a surplus (at the moment) of your inventory. The GBAs look slick. Have you ever thought about doing a GameCube themed GBA?
-
If not, he has NOW. XD

What are the benefits of the original Gameboy Advance over the SP or DS lite for GBA games? It looks like it would be more ergonomic to me. Are there any other pros/cons? I had an original gameboy and gamegear and haven't had one since until I got a DsiXL for my kid.

Ding ding ding!
Not too many cons. The screen isn't quite as bright and no internal rechargeable batteries.
-
The screen isn't quite as bright and no internal rechargeable batteries.
The screen is shit to view unless in perfect lighting condition (or Wiggy backlights of course) and internal recharcable battery is not pro in my mind but con, on the road you can simply pop in to any store and buy new batteries.
But yes the ergonomics is way better.
@Wiggy. read my PM and please help. :-*
-
I fail to see how much more ergonomic the GBA is versus the GBASP, even modded with the backlight. Could someone enlighten me?
-
I fail to see how much more ergonomic the GBA is versus the GBASP, even modded with the backlight. Could someone enlighten me?
Simple. Pick a GBA SP up and play lets say an action game or pretty much anything that is not an RPG that makes your press the buttons very often and repetitively (especially the shoulder buttons). Now pick up an original GBA and play the same game. Much more comfortable to hold over a long period of time.
If the GBA were to have the same picture quality of the GBASP (like what Wiggy does) then it is a superior product for play. Especially if you are an adult with bigger hands and/or are playing for more than 30min.
-
I like that it uses double As. I'm leery of non-replaceable charger batteries. I have a kind of expensive wireless headset that I'm a little worried about. It's fine now, but in the future... who knows

You've got to be kidding. Have you ever held both?

I meant the new backlit LCD isn't as bright as it is in the SP
Got your pm, and your other goodie showed up today ;)

Yup, that's a completely valid concern. Right now there are aftermarket replacements, but who knows how long those will be on the market :(

Still needing yor help Wiggy, I really want that.

Sent bad news PM :(

Sent bad news PM :(
Yeah read it and answered.
Maybe next time.

Really good selection on your pre modded gba i will buy one eventually, but i'm putting some money aside to have a nomad & 2 micros be giving the wiggy makeover... Really good work wiggy i would have a hard time letting myself sell all those beautiful handhelds....jelly... ;D
-
Thanks!
There are quite a few that I'd rather not let go, but I can't keep em all...

There isn't enough room for me at this point, and there definitely isn't enough room for two of us :(

Thank you! :D
Progress being made in the office. Had 2 family functions over the weekend, so couldn't do much, and we have a TON of work to do today (and all this week honestly), so we're working in a bit of a mess. But, we're making the most of it. Just have to get the 700lb. piano out of the room now...

Not at all. Wasn't sure if I would post it or not considering the policies on that sort of thing on TCP ;)
-
Bre software also mention your custom earthbound on his facebook page. :)
-
I'll have to check it out. There were a lot of re-blogs from that article. I posted link backs to all I that I was alerted to on my blog within the post if you want to check them out.

Cant decide between the Twizzler GBC, and the Quasar GBC, Both look incredible. Now the only thing left to do is decide witch to buy :0
Its a hard decision xD Next task is to consider 2000 Flushes, or the Cherry on Top. I definitely would love to buy one of your consoles. But witch one..... lol
-
Quasar is a fav of mine ;D I tried to keep it, but I need more portables on my shelf like I need another hole in my head LOL!
-
lol ;D I know what you mean. I have so many damn handhelds lying around the house. These things are like an addiction. But the sad fact is....... I cant stop myself from buying more! lol :D
-
I did make myself a GBA about a month ago though. It's sorta like my RCG mascot right now. I'll snap some pics of it soon.
-
I've had a lot of requests for prints of the art that I did for the Zelda set. So here they are!

Almost forgot, new podcast on second opinion games. Both myself and my new partner are chatting away about various gaming-related stuff.

Wiggy, wiggy, wiggy... You know what I'm asking... ;D
Nevermind got the answer.
-
I hope I'm in time to get one of those EB0 carts when they go live; my wife would love one as a birthday present. ;D
-
We'll post on the blog and FB page before they do, so keep an eye out and/or subscribe to the blog ;)
-
Got my finger on that pulse; the waiting begins. :D
-
wiggy, the magazine is called "M!Games". I'm on vacation right now, so unfortunately I can't buy more magazines. They don't have them here. By the time I'm back the new issue is already out. You could ask Tiktektak, he's Austrian and they sell the "M!Games" there, too.
Sorry buddy :(
If it's any slight consolation I could scan the page with the article for you once I'm back.
-
A scan would be nice, thanks ;D I just downloaded the app and paid for the current issue. Hopefully it provides me with decently high res images...
-
Porkémans
I almost choked on my food!!!!!

let me show you them

-
Hey wiggy on RCG the Twizzler GBC is sold out. Do you ever plan to restock it?
-
Yup! Will be making more as soon as humanly possible. Right now we're cranking out about 10 EB0 carts and next up will be another batch of front-lot consoles (GBC, NGPC, and Wonderswan)
-
Good to hear ;D
-
Cant wait to hear about that GBA repro ;D
-
It's gonna be intense! We've actually been talking with a concept artist that does some pretty kick-ass work and he's gonna be doing a lot of the artwork for us while we do our usual thing for the package ;)
Also, this time we're aiming for a much higher production number along with 3 packages. We'll have a standard, premium, and ultra premium package. The ultra is gonna be 100% pure madness 8)
-
Now I really can't wait for it, it sounds Incredible. Just take my money now lol
-
Wanna know what $10K worth of modded portables looks like?
Lots of new styles and colors coming to the store very soon...
-
Do I spy Sega Nomads? :o
-
I caved and bought another goodie off your store yesterday... Can't wait for that awesome wiggy merch to arrive!
-
Hey Wiggy, did you ever make any progress on Game Gear back lights?
-
Wiggy, I've got a question for you.
Can you use a normal spray paint when painting handhelds? I've got a GBA SP that I want to paint and I was considering using a Krylon Fusion paint. Any advice? And do you know if metallic colors work okay?
-

Thanks for the link. It looks like more work then I wanted, I was hoping for a "quick fix". Maybe I'll just buy a replacement housing instead...

Yeah, I saw your name pop up in PayPal. Hope you enjoy!
Hey Wiggy, did you ever make any progress on Game Gear back lights?
Sort of. I'm gonna have to finish the two that I promised to make and then that's all I'll do. They're a headache, there isn't that much demand, and I absolutely do not have the time to offer another service/mod right now :(
Wiggy, I've got a question for you.

Yeah, that fusion stuff is total crap. Plus, since you can't us a primer of any sort with it, it must be apied rather heavily, which won't get along with the right tolerances of the SP :(
Painting plastic and getting a good, durable result isn't super easy and it's pretty much NEVER quick :-\
-
Hey, wait... Nomad claimed... Nomad sold! How much? Do you replace the LCDs?
-
Hey, wait... Nomad claimed... Nomad sold! How much? Do you replace the LCDs?
He is talking about the gamegear screen mods, but knowing wiggy's work i wont be suprise if he already sold the nomad on the pics. ;D
-
Yeah, no thanks to Game Gears. Huge headache.
The Nomads haven't sold yet, but that's only because they're still just sitting in a pile of pieces :(
-
I'm almost half tempted to buy my old Nomad back! :P
Na I'm kidding, I'd prolly put it on a shelf and never mess with it again.
-
Your Nomad is long since gone. Sold it at that CCAG show back in June ;D
-
Lol it's cool man. I'm just glad it was useful to you, I wasn't doing anything with it.
-
Sorta inadvertently made some waves with a custom 2DS that we just finished building. Dunno if you guys have seen it or not, but searching "Luigi 2ds" will bring up plenty of hits and there is a quick video on secondopiniongames.com about it.

Nice looking. :o

lol... That was yours? I've seen it on several different sites. :D

hella sweet, looks official :o

They wrote about you on Kotaku.

Wiggy you look and sound so different I expected!!!
-
Nice hat!
-
I've been wanting a 2ds and this is almost perfect to me.
I say this with the highest respect for your work as it is, but is it possible to do a lighter shade of green on the buttons and hinge? They seem kind of dark pine green; when I think of Luigi I think of bright green like on the box.
I thought the Luigi outline imprinting on the back was a nice touch and was wondering how that would look if the Luigi outline was painted in green to match the buttons and hinge.
Very cool
-
Yeah, that 2ds luigi looks incredible.
-
I don't see how this is impressive to be honest.
-
I don't see how this is impressive to be honest.
If you don't think that's impressive, you should make one that is. :o

Paint a 2DS and make a repro box? Yea that's a lot of work.

Erm, did you watch the video, and are you familiar with wiggy's work?
It's not a simple paint job, it's custom molded buttons, reengineered case, etc etc.
-

That's what I'm saying. If this is easy, then it should be easy money for you. I'd buy one if the price were right.
-
Wiggy,
If you're still looking for how to sell this - please consider a auction with profits going to Child's Play. I think this could bring in some bank for the charity. :D

No one said it was easy. I just said i wasn't impressed. This just seems to be over hyped in my opinion by all the Hypebeasts. I'm not knocking his line of work, but it's really not special.

Thank you, sir :)

I'm actually a 350lb black woman who wears an eye patch. That was just my "average white guy" costume :P
Nice hat!
Haha, thanks! I've got like 3 of em. I tend to wear hats out pretty quickly, so I keep em stocked up.
Very cool
The original plan was plain ol' Luigi colors, but that didn't really hold my interest, so we went with the dark metallic green and off-white. I could do bright green and bright white, just wasn't unique enough IMO.
Yeah, that 2ds luigi looks incredible.
Thanks!
I don't see how this is impressive to be honest.
If you don't think that's impressive, you should make one that is. :o
Paint a 2DS and make a repro box? Yea that's a lot of work.
If you think that's all I did, then you're sorely mistaken. Not to mention that this was built within about a week of launch.
Wiggy,
If you're still looking for how to sell this - please consider a auction with profits going to Child's Play. I think this could bring in some bank for the charity. :D
Did you watch the vid? That's pretty much the plan as it stands ;)
Though we can't afford to give 100% away :-\
No one said it was easy. I just said i wasn't impressed. This just seems to be over hyped in my opinion by all the Hypebeasts. I'm not knocking his line of work, but it's really not special.
You don't have to be impressed, but trying to diminish the amount of work that it took is quite ignorant.

Diminish? Repeat to me where I diminished your work? Paint the console, which you did. Made a Repro box, which you did. Facts right? Sorry if I forgot to add in silicone mold of buttons, but that hardly seems like much work since housewives do that in their spare time. (I admit that last sentence was slightly diminishing just as an example as to what a diminishing statement is.)."Its not special" is hardly diminishing. It's an opinion. We are all entitled to our own opinions so to say another person's opinion is "quite ignorant" is actually quite judgmental.
-
You call it a Luigi version, I think that it's more of a Michigan State edition. ::)
-
Was just watching the video (still am) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o53Ah-Vrx9I, but:
Wiggy you look and sound so different I expected!!!
I'm actually a 350lb black woman who wears an eye patch. That was just my "average white guy" costume :P
Haha surprisingly you look almost exactly as I expected, but sound way different. So I was half right, lol.
Does look pretty nice. I've been absorbed in my own projects and I guess I missed all the hype.
I didn't see/hear anything until you posted on facebook, lol.

Why should I repeat myself?
And again, I clearly said that you don't have to be impressed by it or think that it's special. I never argued with your opinion.
The fact that you further diminish the work proves that you're not only ignorant, but also disrespectful. Calling out your ignorance is not a judgement, but rather a statement of the fact. You are ignorant. It simply means that your knowledge of what went into this is lacking.
So how did that debossed Luigi appear on the back? You've conveniently neglected to touch on that and dismiss is as the work of some housewife (which is not only insulting to me, but housewives everywhere as well). Talk about judgmental.

Clearly by calling me ignorant you were arguing with my opinion. My knowledge is not lacking, it is the reason why I'm not impressed. You're clearly giving yourself entirely too much credit here. You are completely out of line in calling me ignorant because I'm not suckling at your teet. It seems like you haven't been criticized before. Can you not handle someone not liking your work? As far as to say I'm ignorant because I'm not impressed, step off your high horse. Take the criticism instead of getting on the defense about it. This is a free forum for such things. told you it looks official :P
-
It made the rounds pretty quickly :)
It was on the 2DS Wikipedia page for a while too. Don't know if it's still there or not.
-
I have to say man I am almost sad that this turned out to be your work and here i was thinking I might actually buy one of those for $129.99 =D. Damn you Nintendo!! lol
Awesome job Wiggs ^^
-
Just found out that this was your work, Wiggy, and I have to say that it is remarkable! I was dying to pre-order one of these from retail! You are a wizard, sir!
-
I don't want to be "that guy" who "knew it all along"... but :D
I thought it was really weird that they would have the engraved Luigi on the back. Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any limited edition systems that had an actual modification to the case (except, perhaps, the Pikachu N64 - and that's Pokemon!). To do something more than just cosmetic changes for an LE seemed out of the norm for Nintendo - and, as much as I love Luigi, I just don't see them going through all that effort for him.
With that said, I was thinking about getting one when they came out. :D

Wiggy, we (or maybe just me/I) need more Zelda themed consoles.... thoughts?

It's gonna end up on Game Gavel in the VERY near future. I'll post once it does :)

Our Luigi 2DS is up on Game Gavel with 25% of the final value going to Child's Play charity. Check it out :)
RCG Custom Luigi 2DS on Game Gavel (http://www.gamegavel.com/item.cgi?show_item=0000843235)

I hope Child's Play will enjoy their 250+ dollars ;)
-
I wouldn't complain either :D
-
Very cool.
I only just learned about Game Gavel, having also just discovered the Second Opinion podcast. Both are awesome, and I saw the Wiggy interview on Second Opinion too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o53Ah-Vrx9I&feature=share
-
There are actually 2 podcasts on 2nd opinion. One is an interview and is LONG. Like an hour. The other is with A-dizzle and myself and I think we're were sorta talking about the current state of gaming, gaming with your kids, and some other game-related stuff. And then there's obviously the video :P
It'd be great to give a ton to Child's Play! Obviously I would like it to do well for personal reasons, but I really do like being able to give something to a good cause. We haven't told anyone on our FB page or blog, but our next project is a 3DS XL. Just came in the mail a few days ago and I think I've got a solid plan for it. It'll make the 2DS look like we scribbled "Luigi" on it with a Sharpie by comparison ;D

This is one reason why America is turning into such a shithole. Everyone wants their opninion to matter. The whole 10% of US citizens that are like this doucheface are the ones the government tries to cater to.
Is Wiggy's thread hurting anyone? No? Then shut the fuck up with your whole 3 posts that are most likely other complaints. Freaking leech...

This thread fits in fine here, TCP is not just about covers, and the description on the forum page of General Discussion is "Feel free to talk about anything and everything in this board."
I can start a topic on building boats out of French cheeses if I wanted to.
Let the mods here determine if this topic is accessible, judging by it being a year and 3 days old, it is accepted.

I asked permission before posting this thread. In fact, my very fist customer ever is a rather well established member here and Megaman über enthusiast :)

And Admins and Gurus often post here, that should prove that this topic is accepted.
Self-promoting yes, but who cares.
Wiggy deserves it.
And this stuff is very game related.
Should I ban you instead because of trolling... probably, but won't as that would be petty. ;D

I just can't support such smelly endevor.

Damn i thought i could start a topic of constructing buldings as i'm an architect :P, just jocking, never try to do that, this is a Cover/Gaming site not a movie, cartoons, contruction site so he is promoting yes but at least is gaming related and a well known person on tcp, has a lot of good stuff on his page. shut up if you don't know nothing.
Or you ran the same business as him and you are trying to introduce your self by throwing rocks to others? I think you should shut up

back to searching for covers ...
I'ma hijack for just a quick second. Good luck finding new covers, because TCP has turned into a social website than a cover making website as of late =P. Everyone seems to rather talk about what they own instead of scanning the items for raws, and / or the covers created are not good enough quality. If you were to honestly remove this thread and (potentially) ban Wiggy, you just lost one of the best cover makers out there. He goes out of his way to go above and beyond.
I understand that you might not think that $120-$160 is not a good idea for a 1337 GBA, but go troll on another website. I for one appreciate everything that Wiggy " The Hut™ " has done, and will continue to support what he does!

That guy was probably a bitter ex-member on a new account. I've been here less than a year, but I've seen a few wiggy haters before.
My only purpose at TCP is to mooch covers and show off pickups (and drool over other people's shit), but if you see anything I've got that you want me to scan just holler ;)

Late in commenting on this I know but had to say something,
1) " i find this wiggy to be the opposite of what Nintendo needs" Yes why would nintendo want to have someone who has genuine love for its characters, amazing artistic/aesthetic design on an innate level, creates quality products for his fellow gamers, and gives part of his profit to charity. Sounds like the antithesis of what nintendo needs to me
2) "dont know this so-called wiggy" but I am still going to make a complete assumption based on absolutely no prior knowledge of this person or his contributions and only my personal opinions because "I run a forum" and how we do things there is the way it should be done everywhere
3) "I do not see what this thread has to do with thecoverproject" This whole project was started on the basis of preserving the integrity of what retro gaming represents to so many of us. It is a place where enthusiasts can get together to share what we can and to help each other where we can. Arseen created a thread the other day in regards to whether he should go for the model 1 or 2 famicom and wanted a couple opinions (I suggested old because of the 2p microphone) but should I have instead said WTF does this have to do with covers or casing?! NO
4) "Back to searching for covers..." and how many have you contributed? Thanks for your 2cents it is much appreciated.
Im not big into lashing out over forums and comments I find it to be a sad assessment of character but damn bro you must have hit a nerve in me or something. My rant is over sorry

Ya see, this is why I should have stuck around on this site more. I'd have nabbed one of your NGCPs, GBAs, and/or GBCs a LONG time ago. Seriously man, you've got some talent. And to think I found out about RCG on Reddit.
On the other hand, now that I have a decent designing machine again, I might stay around now. My stuff was never to level of yours, but hey, why not.

Reminds me of Johnny Bravo) I had really wanted to get a Dingy DMG on your store as well as an AESthetique or eMvious NGPC, but I'm halfway decent with modding tools and spray cans, so instead of fighting other customers to the deat-- er... checkout, I figure I'd give it a hand maself. So I must ask a few questions (I've been going over your how-to guides and back several pages here, so please don't flame):
- My GBA that I have is one of the old Platinum ones, scratched to all hell. Some are pretty deep (I was a kid :/). Would I need a filler? If so, would I use good ol' Bondo a-la BenHeck?
- I've seen some screen mods for the NGP, and they look... grueling. Do you have a link to a how-to for that, hopefully one that doesn't involve slaughtering a GBAsp? I like the color of mine, so I'm fine with just a screen.
- Holy crap, Nomads!
- Okay, that wasn't a question, but holy crap, Nomads. Wow.
- When you paint a Nintendo product, it really doesn't seem to have any issues with inlay text, as Nintendo prefers indentions and such. Do you silkscreen the NGP text, use a marker, or what?
Anyways, I assume you're busy and I'll let you get back to it. Thanks, and I look forward to more of your work!
-
Ya see, this is why I should have stuck around on this site more.
Yeah his stuff is amazing.
So Wiggy, (by the way, love the name. Reminds me of Johnny Bravo)
THAT WAS LIKE THE FIRST THING I EVER TOLD HIM. SEE WIGGY, IT'S NOT JUST ME!!!
-
My roommate just showed me pictures of those Four Swords GBA's and I saw "Rose Colored Gaming" and thought it sounded familiar. Just wanted to chime in and say that they look amazing. I'll be gunning for one once they go on sale :D
-
Wiggy - those are amazing. I feel they need a specially decorated GCN to go with them though. ;)
-
I need that castlevania micro, It literally looks astonishing, and perfect. You never cease to amaze me lol ;) How much ;D
-
Thanks!
We'll have em up really soon. Not 100% sure on price yet, which is part of why they aren't up for sale yet :P
I gotta update this thread. We have SOOOOO much going on right now. It's really exciting ;D
-
It'd cost more money than I could afford, but if you made a custom BMO GameBoy, you'd make a fortune off of it.

Been a little while since I've updated the ol' thread. I can't post anything here, but if you hop over to the FB page or blog, you'll see that we're just about to add something to the store that may interest some of you (Arseen ;) ).
-
Those Zelda boxsets look really astonishing. The price though is phew too much for me. I just bought my ps4 for only a bit more. ;D
You will surely find your customers for it rest assured. Sadly those won't be the real zelda lovers or collectors but rahter some spoiled rich kids collectors.
-
Your items have great names- 2000 flushes, grow up, and get a life made me grin
-
^^^ Thanks! I spend a lot of time with them, so it's nice to hear that someone gets and appreciates them :D
Haven't posted in here forever!
didn't post this up anywhere else, but thought it was worth sharing (didn't want 100+ FB users to want theirs modded like this). Did this for a fellow who works for a blog site which was the first to give me any sort of press coverage. They've been quite good to me ever since and I try to return the favor :)
I built a custom region mod switch for his Nomad. I hate the way most people do this mod, so I removed the brightness dial (has new LCD, so it's useless anyway) and built a 3D model and printed the button for the switch. Works like a charm :)

Shees you are lazy!!! ::)
Honestly that looks awesome, but that does not surprice me at all. 8)

Bastards! But seriously, that is most definitely something I wanted to do, but the problem is that the resolution of my 3D printer just isn't high enough to do something like that :(

IGN is doing another Wiggy story!
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/25/hands-on-with-rose-colored-gamings-snes-themed-game-boy-advance
-
I don't like the way they worded that. It's all about the back light to them, and make it seem like this is the only back light GBA. It's not about the backlighting.
-
OMG! The Wiggy IGN story is now trending on Yahoo News! What next? CNN?

I have to say Wiggy, I've been keeping an eye on the facebook posts, you must know I'm excited for your wireless snes controllers, I think I asked you about making those like 2 years ago... Can you give me a heads up on what the price is going to be for those? Held off on Star Fox 2 because it was a bit high for me and I knew I'd want to save for these.... ;)
-
I'm as pumped as you are for the wireless SNES!
Honestly we have very little idea on price right now. We've got a guy doing the engineering/programming/board designs, but we'll still need to source all the components and figure out what our assembly/production costs will be.
-
Alright alright. I'll keep waiting patiently. If these go well any chance you guys will attempt some NES ones? ;D
-
I've always wanted a set of wireless nes/snes/n64 controllers. I would be interested in said product also.
-

I'm also interested in this. Are you just looking at SNES, or would this somehow work with multiple Nintendo systems?
-
Add me to the list as well! All 4 of my boys LOVE to play the SNES and N64 and I can't tell you how many times they have ripped the console right off the shelf! :o
I'd like at least 4 of the SNES and 8 of the N64 ;)
-
This is what I get for not paying attention to Facebook I guess...
I would definitely want a full (standard) set of wireless controllers for whatever you put out, because I know with your stuff it's going to be 1st party quality.
-
I just "liked" your page. Hopefully I won't miss this stuff in the future. ;)
-
There are already pretty nice third party wireless SNES controllers out there -> A now defunct company called Messiah was making some years ago. They work pretty nice but are very pricey nowadays.
Back in the days they cost 60 bucks.
I'm sure though Wiggys will be much more retail quality but below 100 bucks it will be hard to achieve that.

I've always had a hard time finding third party controllers that I've liked. That's why I'm looking forward to Wiggy's project. It would be the same first party SNES controller but without a wire. Sounds awesome. I am a little worried about the price though. I'll just wait and see. :D
-
Guess I should update this thread more often :)
We plan on having kits and pre-modded controllers. We have a price target, but just not enough info yet to say for sure, so we won't.
-
I like the kit idea!
-
I will definitely be buying some of these! (maybe some kits too!) I've always wanted to set my SNES above my TV but hated the idea of wires hanging in the way and could never find a quality controller. I also love the idea of NES and N64 wireless... maybe you could do Genesis too? ;D
-
There's a few friends I have, I try and show them a SNES game, an N64 game... and they complain about the controller cable. It's like a mental block they can't get over.
"Oh my gosh, how do you sit so close to the TV" etc. Kids these days... ::)
Wireless controllers would be awesome, if only because I'd be able to get more people to play the older games.
-

Sitting too close to the TV isn't a problem for me because I have controller extensions for nearly every system I have. I also have enough for 2 to 4 controllers depending on the system. There are only a handfull that I still need.
Witht that said, a wireless controller would still be a nice addition to my SNES.
-
Well I revamped my old N64 cover template. It was in need of some love. It was the first template I made, and I did so rather hastily when I found this site.

And the reason I'm posting about it here as opposed to my N64 cover thread is because of these...

Fresh off the boat from Shadowfox, RCG exclusive white N64 cases :)
-
Nice, it should look great with those white boxes.
When you have one ready post pictures
-
Very cool. I knew you had something going on, just wasn't sure what it was. ;D
-
New cases will be on their way very soon. I've got about 75 covers converted so far. Many have received some significant touch-ups and error correction. Can't wait to get these!
That said, is anyone interested in my old set of N64 UGCs? Full set + several JP titles and accessories (memory paks, DEV cart, etc.). Roughly 310 covers/UGCs total. Cases are $70 per 100, figure prints at $.50 each x 300 and I've got about $350 invested. Would gladly take $200 plus shipping for anyone here. Otherwise they're gonna go up on ol' eHell.
-
If you ever consider selling the prints separately, I would take 100 empty cases.
-

I'm making a gold one for myself. I'm hoping we get some warmer weather in Colorado soon. Spray painting in negative degree weather can be pretty bothersome. Can't wait :)
I'm betting there will be gold variants eventually with Gold being so synonymous with the Zelda games. Question is can you wait that long for something so amazing? lol
-

Thanks! Oddly enough, I ended up never selling them. Well, we did, but they came back to us and I decided to not resell them :)

It's a long story. But the gist of it is that the fellow who bought them was somehow of the impression that he was getting something different than what we had described/sold, and so he sent them back. I never wanted to let them go in the first place, so I took it as a sign to just keep them :)

Sweet Jesus, just set one aside for me if you do, PLEASE. Fishy can vouch for my reliability. :o

Honestly, a LOT of people have been asking he and I about that gold cart. Will very seriously consider a run of them. Don't see why not to be honest.

The cases will be here in a week or two with any luck. The covers are ready to go, save for the ol' double and tripe cases that I did for oddball stuff like the Rumble Paks and Pokemon Stadium + Transfer Pak. Those I will take a look at once the cases are here and I can cut a few up to see if I can make such a thing viable to sell, or if a writeup for the modification is as far as it will go.

The cover template received a complete overhaul. A large number of the graphics/icons/etc. were rebuilt in vector format from scratch. No more scanned icons and other such nonsense. I will upload the template for anyone who wants to use it for themselves once I get it cleaned up enough to make it obvious what is what for anyone besides myself :P

-
No prob! It's my pleasure. Been a long time since I could give anything back to my favorite gaming community.
-
Have you decided what quantities you plan to sell the cases in? Initially I didn't plan to getting the N64 cases, but I might go ahead and do it since I don't really need very many. But I'm also hoping to buy in small quantities (probably 30). I don't want too many extras since I don't see my N64 collection getting much bigger than it is.
-
As far as the cases themselves go, we'll likely allow as low as 3, possibly even do singles if people really want (though I doubt they will).
With covers, I'm not sure. I have no idea how the other case/cover sellers do it. That's a whole lot of mess to keep track of. I'll ask shadowfox and see how he manages it. Since it's all he does (sell cases and covers) it may be far less of a hassle for him. We sell and produce a large number of items, and keeping track of the prints and whatnot could prove difficult. May just be an all-or-nothing affair. Not sure...

Jeremy and I are still working on getting shipping costs to my shop sorted out. It ain't cheap, and I don't want it to affect the price of the cases too drastically.
In the meantime, here are some more examples of the love that went into a lot of these covers while being converted. This was no quick and dirty "copy, paste, scale" job.

I would love to, but that will be for another time...
In the meantime, the first complete batch of covers has been printed and cut. The shipping company called me yesterday and confirmed that the cases will arrive on Tuesday next week :)

LOTS of cases. Took my staff and I a few hours to clear enough space for them when they arrive next week.

How does that X-Acto knife work compared to a good paper cutter? Is it a super tedious process, or is it fairly manageable?
-
It's sort of a joke. I have an industrial paper cutter that I used to cut these down. Doing so with an Xacto would have taken me an entire day or more :P
So yeah, knife & ruler is über tedious.
-
Ok thats what I thought. But I thought I would double check...just make sure someone doesn't know something I dont.
-
What about the kitchen knife in the same picture (or at least what looks like one). How many covers did you cut out with that? :D
-

Thousands! :P
But seriously, we use it to cut thick foam blocks. It's pretty helpful.
It's also good for warding off mountain goats.
-
Hey wiggy, I am assuming you do plenty of 3D printing? I could be wrong, but I have a quick question. If you do, do you have a preferred method for doing an acetone vapor bath (for ABS)?
-
I don't do any 3D printing at the moment, and when I was, I didn't mess around with acetone and ABS. Sorry

Hi, how's the megaman museum? Any updates?
Haven't gotten much stuff lately, or at least not worth taking new pictures for. I may be getting something tomorrow, though, that will change that ;)

Hey wiggy, what is the inspiration behind the "Dingy GBC" replacement shell?
I just realized how stupid this question is. Never mind. :D
Different question: When will they be back in stock?
-
Wiggy, do you think you could offer a Game Boy Advance e-Reader stand? That is definitely a product I'd buy. Or have you tested the GB cartridge stand with an e-Reader? Will it work?
-

I doubt we will have a stand specific to the reader, but I'm willing to bet that it will stand on a GB cart display just fine. I'll test it at some point today.

I'm still curious about this. Also, what would you recommend for permanently assembling a GBA stand? I acquired a RCG GBA stand from an eBay lot, and one of the pieces fits semi-loosely, and I would like to bond it. Would super glue be fine?
-
Super glue will leave a white haze on the acrylic as it dries. Epoxy would be the better option. You could also wrap a tiny piece of clear tape around the tabs on the stilts and re-insert them.
-
Wiggy, how can I check my order status? Thanks.
-
Shoot an email over to service@rosecoloredgaming.com and we'll get you sorted out.
-
Hey wiggy, I still need to know if the GB e-Reader can be held nicely by the GBA cartridge stand.
-
Mine is in a box somewhere (I moved in August). Not sure exactly where. I'll look as soon as I get a chance.
-
I'm super excited about a new piece of equipment that's on its way to the shop!

I lost all interest in the filament-based printers like our old Replicator 2 (which I sold about a year ago after literally not touching it for 6 +months) once we got the first laser cutter and I saw how quickly, consistently, and accurately we could produce with it.
Still, the lasers have their limitations. One can do a LOT with 2D parts, but it means using way more parts than I'd prefer to add mechanical function. The power switch/reset button assembly on this custom SNES is made up of 10 individual pieces of laser cut acrylic, 14 mechanical fasteners (i.e. Screws), a fair amount of glue, and a very steady had mixed with an inordinate amount of patience.

While this is by far the project I'm most proud of, I have no intention of putting it into production as is. The margin for error is very, VERY narrow.
Buuuuuut, if I were able to mix in a handful of printed parts for some of the more complex portions of the build, then I could definitely put something together which is both able to be easily produced by my staff AND I, plus (hopefully) offer a kit to customers!
This will definitely pave the path of completion for some of our more complex and ambitious projects :D

As usual, everything there looks pretty damn awesome. :D

I don't normally go in for super fancy smancy consoles and such. A custom pain job and basic graphics is about all I'm usually keen on. But... This is flippin' awesome and I want a whole line of retro consoles like it.
-
I like everything without modification or customization, original. But damn wiggy, that looks really awesome.

I'm like you guys. I want all of my consoles to look as original as possible. But if anyone is going to get me to change my mindset, it's Wiggy. :P

I agree, but this is just ridiculously cool. That acrylic cartridge is badass.

I think the color on the insides really sells it! This is coming from someone who likes to keep their consoles as original as possible, but I REALLY like this!

Hey just checked your site for the first time in awhile, seems your selling N64 cases? How are the dimensions for the art and stuff? I was looking towards bitboxes, but am curious about these now.

Thanks everyone! This was definitely one of those "I've gotta pour everything I've got into it" projects. Did a few other colors with this style as well as a very small run of Final Fantasy themed units. Really looking forward to getting back on this project ASAP.

They're Shadowfox cases. I have a template in my shadowfox N64 thread, plus there are numerous templates and such in the shadowfox section. I believe my template is shorter than most. It seems like folks like the inserts to completely fill the given space in the cases, but they don't account for the fact that the sleeve itself doesn't cover the entire surface, which leaves part of the printout exposed to the elements/handling. It's all just personal preference.

Might have to actually go to CCAG if you did a Final Fantasy thing =P Not that I might not go, its just I would be further inclined to go =P

^^^ Seriously!?! I don't even like Final Fantasy and that's one of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen. If you ever decided to put shell kits like this into production, I'd have to go into hauk to buy me one.

Agreed. Not into FF, but this is ridiculous. Wiggy should be hired to design special edition consoles.

What?! BLASPHEMY!!!! Lol jk. :P
Even though I owned and played FF1 when I was about 6, (and got my ass obliterated by garland all the time because I had no idea what I was doing) I didn't gain appreciation for Final Fantasy tilll I played 2/4.
I then fell in love when I picked up 3/6 at a garage sale for $5. Which is by far my favorite FF game to this day.
On topic though, that FF system is way badass Wiggy. Great work as usual man!

Thanks guys.
I guess I need to update this thread more often. I just realized that those SNES consoles were all built a little over a year ago.

I've actually been contacted on a number of occasions with regards to creating a small run of custom consoles for various devs to use as promo items/giveaways/etc. There are a few problems every time that this happens.
1) Budget. It's always tight, and of course they want the sort of thing that I normally do, but for about 1/4 the price. Which leads to #2...
2) Colorware. They've been producing custom consoles forever and seem to have a well established reputation within the industry (I've seen them take over at least 2 of the projects that I had worked on at some point).
3) Creative limitations. With my own business, I can essentially do whatever I want, however I want. When the big devs reach out, they have a lot of limitations, restrictions, rules, and so on. It's stifling.
Colorware is honestly the perfect company for that sort of thing. They offer ONE service (paint), and they have a website which appears extremely corporate, which I'm sure is appealing to the folks in the industry. I'm willing to bet that they can quote pricing right down to the dime and estimate turnaround to within a day or two.
