Can't see the Wind Waker cover. :(
If the template isn't for DVD and Gamecube cases, I'd change that.

edit: Now I can, looks awesome

Great Zelda cover! Where did you find the awesome artwork?

By the way, what dimensions do you use on the template? Remember that if you want it to be for Gamecube cases that they are wider than normal DVD cases, even if the difference is minimal.

DVD covers are 3225x2156
Gamecube covers are 3256x2156

thanks for the correct dimensions, i knew that it was slightly off but didn't know by how much.

i think that is where i got the artwork.

i grayscaled it and left a few things in color (link, triforce, eye)

i'm glad you liked it.  ;D

I just wasn't sure what the deminsions should have been.

They are. You can test it yourself. Just compare one of your Gamecube covers to one of your DVD movie covers. You'll notice that the Gamecube covers are slightly bigger. It's hard to express the difference in pixel, wshbrngr found out that the covers are bigger and gave an estimate in pixel, we tried it, it worked, we kept those dimensions :)

hmm...
i've been trying o figure this out for a while ...

how do i change the deminsions of my template once its all completed?

i've had the template complete for quite some time and i've searched through the options and can't find how to do this simple task.

Split up back, spine, front into 3 images. Resize each individually. I don't know the dimensions, however.

i was afraid i might have to do that. I really don't want to merge my layers.  :(

i was just thinking that there was a simpler way to just increase the dimensions
Title: Re: Gamecube Template by Shenske
Post by: KaiserWAVE on November 29, 2007, 01:25:54 AM
Just keep the dimensions. Before we noticed that Gamecube cases were a little wider than DVD cases there were already over 100 covers added to the site. So you could say that roughly half of the covers (if not more) are with DVD dimensions and the other half has the Gamecube case dimensions.
What I mean is, unless you want to redo the 333 Gamecube covers we have in your template and your style, having the template with GC case dimensions is not mandatory.

You could also print a cover in DVD size and one on GC case size to see for yourself if the differene is worth it.

just resize the canvas, not the image.  resizing the canvas does not stretch any of the physical layers etc.  you mihgt need to re-position a few things afterwards though, but no biggy.

its unnecessary to have the template changed by 25~ pixels.

KaiserWAVE stated that its not required for the template to have the different resolution.
1/2 of the gamecube covers on the site have standard DVD case resolution.

so thats why i didn't change it, thanks anyway  ;)

Now I'm confused. What's the right size for the GC covers? 3225 x 2156 or 3256 x 2156?

GC - 3256 x 2156
DVD - 3225 x 2156

my template uses the DVD deminsions
it doesn't matter though, the covers on the site are in both

Hey guys. I hope I'm posting this in the right thread...
I bought a used copy of Twin Snakes recently, but the cover for it was dirty, so I decided to see if I  could print a new one using the archived files on this site. Then I got carried away, and ended up completely remaking the cover so that it fits in a shelf alongside the rest of the MGS Essential Collection. Everything should look aligned if you compare this to another game from the Essential Collection, but I haven't printed it myself yet, so it may be a bit off.
Anyway, I thought I'd show you what I made with the resources I found on this site.

Thanks. I used photoshop to make it, and it is in high resolution. Photobucket just reduces the size when I upload it. I'm sure that if someone wanted the Jpeg or PSD, I could send them the file (Even though it's a hideous mess of unnamed layers)
When I print it out, I'll snap a shot of the case alongside the rest of the games from the Essential Collection to see how it stacks up.

Okay, now that I know you used Photoshop and not MS Paint (it's been attempted before), I suggest you start the fading to white on the back a little earlier so the black text is easier to read.
Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: shenske on June 08, 2008, 12:11:33 PM
i think it looks really good, great idea for using the "essentials" style.

one thing, are you going to add the barcode?
Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: Jemooky on June 08, 2008, 05:24:18 PM
one thing, are you going to add the barcode?
Nope. (More on why later...)
I suggest you start the fading to white on the back a little earlier so the black text is easier to read.
I understand what you're saying, but I'm trying to balance important information with the aesthetics of the essential collection. The white fade was made to mimic the style used in the essential collection, and I decided that that was more important than legibility. Originally, I had no information on the back.
The barcode is excluded for the same reason: The essential collection has no bar code on the individual boxes. I assume that since you asked, things like that are important to some people. But for me, it was all about nailing the aesthetic to make it seem like a part of a greater whole.

Thanks for the feedback, and I really appreciate you guys' attention to detail. There is already a version online (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=1610) which I referenced heavily, and which accommodates your demands for legible text and a barcode. I think that between my version and the one created by Shin Gallon, everyone should be satisfied :P

(If you're curious about other inaccuracies, note that I'm using a newer version of the Silicon Knights logo, and the Nintendo Seal of Quality is in grayscale, which never happens as far as I know. Also, I included the infamous "140.15" codec frequency on the back of the box, which isn't featured in it's usual screenshot form)

I had scanned a couple of MegaMan collection games from the Canada region. What's interesting is that the games has two covers, one completely in English and the other in English and French.
MegaMan Anniversary Collection already has a cover ready to scan. MegaMan X Collection took a bit of work as the Canada Cover is actually in a form of a large, French instruction booklet.

Yes, the spine matches up  :)

Sorry to dissappoint but i won't be adding the Ocarina of Time & Master Quest to the cover.  I don't like the idea of combining games into the same case.  I'm actually in the opposite boat, i would rather separate mutlidisc mutigames into 2 cases.  Maybe i'll make a separate case for Ocarina of Time & Master Quest by itself.

I assume you mean if each disc is stand alone. It'd be kinda odd to have separate cases for say, each disc of Final Fantasy VII.

You would be correct, multidisc mulitgames

For Example: Final Fantasy Origins (PAL)  It had two discs, one for each game.  I would separate them as apposed to making a cover together

Hey Shenske, do you think you could make other Zelda games in the same style as your Collection cover? That is, with the logo in the centre and the faded art at the bottom. Even better would be if you could make the two GBA games- Link to the Past and Minish Cap- with the same style too.

I've just always liked the Zelda covers being gold and emphasising the logo... the art just gives it that extra touch :)

Are you planning on making the spines all match up?  Maybe if you did something similar to your Silent Hill series, you could put the biohazard or infectious disease image on the spine spanned over resident evil zero through 4.

Please keep the title for RE4 "4 Resident Evil". It looks great that way. Line up Resident Evil on the spine but have the four to the left like on the retail cover.

Please keep the title for RE4 "4 Resident Evil". It looks great that way. Line up Resident Evil on the spine but have the four to the left like on the retail cover.

I'll go ahead and try this, but it may look odd next to the rest of the covers. We'll see when I actually get to RE4.

Haven't done anything with the back/spines yet. I want to get the fronts as good as I can first. I haven't gotten around to making anything for the code: veronica front yet other than the logo. Also still need to go back and add the "only for" banners to 0, 1, and 4.

and @doom, I didn't do the "4 resident evil" thing because it kinda broke up the consistency with the other covers. If you still want, I can make an alternate version with "4 resident evil".

I also like how you kept the original "0" "2" "3" & "4" for the logos. (makes it uniform but still distinct)

*almost* makes me want to pick up the other Resident Evil titles...

be warned even if you find 2 and 3  used in decent shape gamestop charged an arm and a leg for them last i checked  around 40+ dollars each.

and great work so far on those custom covers cant wait to see the completed package

That was the case with RE2 and 3 a few years ago, because they had a limited print run and were sort of rare. However, at some point capcom started putting them out again, and the prices dropped dramatically. They still hover a little over the $25 mark, but that's still much nicer than the 40+ they used to be.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

Yeah, I'm starting to get pretty annoyed at gamestop for overpricing out-of-reach games. RE2 & 3 are still 40 bucks each. I did ask the guy at gamecrazy, and he says you could pick one up for about 12 bucks. Ugh, gamestop frustrates me..

Honestly, I stay away from gamestop with the exception of some bargain bin titles and the occasional game you can't find anywhere else. Can't beat picking up Metroid Prime for 5 bucks.

here's the front for Code: Veronica

and here's what I have so far on the spines:

I'm a tad iffy on the look of the spines, mainly because I can't seem to think of anything for Code: Veronica's spine (if anyone has any ideas there, please let me know.) I would like some input on this before I start on the backs.

I think it would look better with the umbrella logo on each spine separately.
That way if you don't have the whole collection (which not many do) the spines would still look right.

finally the site's back up!

Anyhow, I had grown dissatisfied with the way my RE covers were looking, so I decided to take a different approach:

how do you guys like this? Personally, I like it a lot better, gives each game more of its own flavor. I have the backs laid out, but they're nowhere near done yet. I'm going to try to have these finished by this weekend.

Exclusive like in Capcom saying "Resident Evil 4 will be a Gamecube exclusive" ;)

This is Capcom after all, as much as I love them, they like money above all else. Biohazard Zero did not do too well in Japan sales-wise but a few thousand people still bought it to warrant a Wii port of the Resident Evil Remake for Gamecube. So with time every Resident Evil up until Code Veronica X will find its way to the Wii and once they're all released, Capcom will bring them to the U.S. and Europe for a budget price in order to finally get the few people to play Resident Evil that somehow avoided playing it all the time :D

As for your "only for"-tag question. In the end it's your custom cover so you can basically do as you like. Me personally, I was never a fan of the "only for"-tag and I think it would mess up the uniform design of your covers.
Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: AppleQueso on November 21, 2008, 07:41:24 AM
it's a bit too late to change the "only for" tags on RE0 and 1 now, since they're already uploaded.

The way I see it, though, is that it reflects their status while the gamecube was still a current gen console. A good example would be Zelda: Collector's Edition, which has an "only for" tag despite every game on there being available on other, older consoles.

I agree with Kaiser on what he said. I seriously don't doubt that capcom will release those games over here in a "budget" pack, seeing as how right now the Wii seems to have been reduced to a dumping ground for last gen games.

Here's the problem with converting them to other templates. See where the logo is placed on the spine? See those umbrella symbols at the top? Well, since the gamecube's spine logo is located on the bottom, and the playstation, wii, dreamcast, etc, is located on the top, it makes it very difficult, if not altogether impossible to do a good template conversion while keeping the series uniform.

I'm a bit too busy to tackle something like what you want unfortunately. You're asking me to essentially remake the covers from scratch, which kinda kills the point. If someone else wants to try a PAL conversion or something, that's fine with me.

For some reason the Gamecube spine logo is located on the top on PAL games. Whoever wants to do a PAL conversion might want to keep that in mind.

you can keep the console logo thing at the bottom of the spine im not fussed about that, what i ment was change that M thing to 16+ or 18 like on pal consoles

I need to seriously move on from these Resident Evil covers.

I played with them even MORE and ultimately ended up overhauling them quite a bit, restored color to
the front and created entirely new backs.

Although these are uploadable right now, I'm not quite done with what I'm wanting to do yet, which is recase not only the entire Gamecube collection in this style, but convert and create covers for the entire main series across all the platforms it was available on (sans RE2 on the N64).

I was wondering how you guys like the new look I gave them.

I think they are fine, but won't be hosted because there is no "real" game to go with them. I recommend getting an account on box.net et al to host these things; shenske uses one to host homebrew Dreamcast covers.

That seems kind of lame, I mean games get sold in bundles all the time. I Just barely got an Xbox 360 that came with Halo 3 and Fable 2 in a shared case, they made up a custom cover for it that showed the halo cover on one side and the fable cover on the other.  Seeing as it's a retail product does it then qualify as "real" and if so how is that so different from these custom ones?  I think it'd be nice if the thecoverproject hosted multi covers.

Ah well - never mind, but if that's the case i think we need to have a cleanup of the requests thread and prune out anything that's not gonna be hosted.

I also did a Prince of Persia Trilogy case in the PS2 section.  In the UK this was released as a single box, but in the US it came in 3 separate cases - i figured these series cases were in a similar vein?!?!?  Not got a problem with the decision - would just like some guidance before i waste time doing stuff that's not gonna be hosted.

Since the UK release actually happened, a US custom should be fine. I may be wrong on all of this. PM Snowcone and ask him yourself. Additionally, I'll ask the other admins what they think.

What about stuff like, BOR games? We have those hosted here.
I was kinda hoping when I finished my BOR mod, I might be able to have the cover here... :'(

I was also kinda looking to use that Metroid Prime 1+2 cover soon enough.
The Cover Project has many different admins with possibly different views on the subject, and since shenske is an admin he doesn't have to ask anyone before he uploads a cover (mostly). I think when the issue came up Snowcone said it was fine. I could be mistaken, however.

If it were up to me, I'd keep covers on The Cover Project limited to actual games that were developed. Half-Life DC, Thrill Kill, etc. would be allowed because they were developed by a "real" developer and were going to be released anyway.

If I were the admin in charge of uploading the cover, I would not upload covers for homebrew Beats of Rage games. I wouldn't care if someone hosted them elsewhere but linked to them from here, but TCP has a clear goal of preserving and casing retail games. (see: general disdain for users clearly requesting covers so they can case their pirated Pokemon Battle Revolution) I don't want this to turn into cdcovers.cc.

If I was making the call, the custom trilogies/double packs where no official cover was ever made for any region would not be hosted on TCP because they never existed.

The difference is one was made my Microsoft and the others were made by a talented artist not affiliated with a console. The Fable 2/Halo 3 combo is a "real" cover for a "real" compilation. (See: Pac-Man World 2 player's choice, Metroid Prime + MP2 bonus disc, etc.)

---
Once all of this is sorted out I will create a guide entitled "What can I upload?" so none of this stuff happens in the future. To my knowledge, the reason TCP takes such a strong stance on homebrew covers is because we don't want to have anything against us for endorsing piracy.

They are great covers sheep2001. I hope I don't come off as a dick, I just am not quite sure if they can be hosted.
Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: juan0tron on May 04, 2009, 06:25:58 PM
This might be pushing it, but how about an 'unofficial covers' thread? Or would that be defeating the purpose of having no tolerance for piracy? I'm not for having these covers on the site either, other than the piracy part, I just don't want ISO collections/fake games cluttering the list. (Though I do have an R4 that needs covering)

By the way what's the stance on covers for flashcarts? Technically they could be considered for homebrew and not just piracy, but then again they also aren't official DS games.

Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: shenske on May 04, 2009, 06:54:35 PM
My point of view is if the cover is for games in a series and there is a case that can actually house all the games then it should be able to be hosted. Also there should be absolutely no mentionings of an iso or rom set on the cover. Especially in this case since the PAL release did only have one case for multiple games then I don't see a problem in letting it be hosted here.

With the Beats of Rage covers, my BOR Simpsons was put on the site prior to me becoming an admin so somebody else must have thought it would be alright for it to be hosted too.

Sounds kind of arbitrary to me, but that's the last I'll say on it.  It's not my site and I don't care enough to make a bigger deal out of it.
Title: Re: Gamecube Cover thread
Post by: sheep2001 on May 05, 2009, 02:21:44 AM
Seems like we all have the same stance on the piracy issue, so that's a good grounding  at least.  Pretty much all my consoles are modded to play backups/homebrew/whatever - but mostly for playing imports.  Anything i have that isn't retail doesn't get any space on my shelf, just sits in a binder - and if it's good enough for me to play it, then i'll buy it.

As i said above - i don't mind either way what the decision is as regards to these multi covers - i just wanted to make it clear that they are NOT for iso's.

I'm actually all for cutsom cases for series! It's also a good way to save space.

I mean we have the TCP side projects" where AppleQueso and Lumberjack42 reimagined the cases for the Resident Evil and Zelda games to have a uniform design for the entire series. Making a single case for lets say Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes or the Prince of Persia trilogy is the same thing just with another approach.

I'm with Shenske on this one and would even 1-up it :)
If someone wanted to make a single case custom cover for lets say the Splinter Cell quadrilogy or the Sly Raccoon trilogy or any other game that had sequels, I'd say do it. And I wouldn't think a minute about hosting it to be honest.

There are DVD cases in all kinds of sizes, and if someone feels like doing a cover the Splinter Cell games and put them all in one 4-disc DVD case then be my guest.

Doom said
Quote
If I was making the call, the custom trilogies/double packs where no official cover was ever made for any region would not be hosted on TCP because they never existed.

In this case I'd object. If the games exist (I'm talking retail here ;) ) and someone wants to have them all in one case and makes a cover then it should be fine, consequently a NTSC Prince Of Persia trilogy custom cover should be allowed.
But as Shenske said before, there mustn't be any indication that its purpose is to house ISOs or ROMS. This would solely be meant as an alternative way of storage.

As for the homebrew covers, we should handle it like we did before or as Doom suggested. The artist can store them on a box.net account or elsewhere  and link to them or share them via PM but they won't be hosted.

That's my take on it.

Everything released in any form or developed at least = YES

The issue is resolved. You can download

Viewtiful Joe Compilation (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=9535)
and
Metroid Prime Compilation (http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=9534)

from The Cover Project. I love the 3D versions of the covers (from IMANDIX, I'm guessing) that you worked in. ;)

It's been a while, I went ahead and uploaded what I had done of the revised resident evil covers. Unfortunately I never finished revising Code: Veronica X, sorry. I ran into trouble with it while doing the back and considering that I won't likely be purchasing that version of the game myself, I have little motivation. I may try and make a set of covers for the ps2 titles sometime though, and I'll see about squeezing the ps2 Code:Veronica in there.

There is the worry that due to the way the site functions that these won't be able to "override" the old covers, however, I think that's a non-issue, as these covers have a lot of significant changes that some people might not like.

1st is a cutscene, 2nd is gameplay, 3rd is cutscene. They're all rendered in-game though.

I've been working on my first ever custom cover, for LoZ: Four Swords Adventures, for a while now, and I think it's ready to show off to you guys. There's just one thing stopping me from showing off the final product, and that's my own indecisiveness towards the look of the logo (well, that and one other thing, but I digress). I would like your opinions on the matter. First, the cover(s):

Do you guys think the logo looks better in pure gold, or in green with gold trim?

Does anyone have any use for this?  I know we have other compilations on the site that were not officially released so this should fit that criteria.  The cover uses scans from the Wii version, PS3 version, the GCN version of the Original Trilogy and a promo pic from the net.  I got both of these games and they were Player's Choice covers so i decided so reprint a cover.  I have some extra double disc cases anyway :)

Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga

Here is another cover i made for a game i ordered a few months ago but never arrived :(
I'll probably never get it so here is the cover anyway just in case anyone else needs it. Its close to the retail version but has a few variations due to what i could find.

At this point I'm hoping it doesn't need any tweaking. It's ready to download, if you want it, from here (http://www.box.net/shared/5g2v5gmf09) or by the link on my sig.

This is the first of a few Legend of Zelda cover I want to remake, more for myself than any other reason, and while this one should be okay to host here, I fear the others I intend to create will be using art that isn't mine, nor can I give credit, as I have no idea who made them. But that's for some other time. Enjoy.

Would you do euro version too?
I mean the Gamecube logo needs to be on top spine.
I would do it my self, but I noticed that the current position of the logo covers a mystery statue running from front to spine, that needs replacing.
If you have the original art work it should be easy to add.

Uh, sure. Not a problem at all; everything is still in the .psd file. Is there anything besides moving the Gamecube logo on the spine (and changing the "Only For" logo) that you want me to do? Add or remove anything? I'm not familiar with PAL covers, and there's no PAL cover for this game, so I can't use that as a reference.

The spine changes are enough fo me.

If you look the differences in Canadian:

And UK:

versions of Super Mario Sunshine, you can see the major differences in style, but the spine is the most important part as it shows.

And thank you in advance.  :)

Ah, don't beat yourself up about the misspelling too much. I didn't see it at first, but under the words "Four Swords Adventures" on the cover, you can see that the logo image was originally a JPEG, or was a PNG with a white background, because when the white was selected in Photoshop to be deleted, it left all that white where the drop-shadow should be, leaving behind that weird non-shadow surrounded by white under the text.  :-\ It's a shame that the PSD has been deleted, I would have liked to help you on that one.

Dammit I hate that leftover shadow crap. It's always a pain to get rid of it with the eraser tool too because you might edge in a little too close and delete some of the image, or it just doesn't look quite right for some other reason, so on and so forth..

I never deleted the PSD file. I still have it. I wouldn't mind at all if you added your own little touches, if it means creating a better cover overall. I'm not all that Photoshop savvy, so any anount of help is appreciated. I'll see about uploading a copy to my box.

Edit: The PSD is too big to upload without purchasing something.

I'll be damned. Small like Japanese GC cases. Does take a bit of modding, but you are stuck without a manual though.

And for two disc games you use two sticker disc holders, that's one per disc FYI.  ;)

I am looking for a way to condense my Gamcube collection down into smaller cases to save room. The mini-DVD cases are a little too small for my tastes and those UMD cases for the PSP would go great if there was actual room for the manuals. Is there any site similar to Cover Project that deals with game manuals? How does a Gamcube and PSP disc compare to each other?

I am working on that problem myself. My best solution is 7mm DVD cases (slimline). Cuts the physical size in half. Some dual disc 7mm covers create a bulge with the manual in there, but thats because of the disc ring in the cases that keeps the DVD in place even if the holder itself looses control. cut that out, and no bulge.

I noticed something is missing... or i'm just dumb... but isn't there on boxes (like animal crossing) the box says 1-4 players alternating.

Redid this almost 100% in vector with Illustrator. Other than the screenshots, there are only 3 parts that are raster. (The Gamecube logo bar on the front, the dots in the maze, and the ONLY FOR triangle)

I have a request for Animal Crossing (NTSC-UC) for Gamecube. Recently found this game and the insert is very damaged by water. There is one posted here but it is very faded and doesn't look good after I printed. If someone could scan a better quality one, it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Someone requested a new scan of Animal Crossing.  I cannot find the request anymore, so I'll put it here in case someone does a search for it at a later time.

Ah, that's why I couldn't find it.  I was looking under the request section.

The version I have is the Player's Choice version, but I figure if whoever is cleaning it up is using a template, it shouldn't matter which version I have.

Hopefully this works out for you.

Edit: I'm no expert at this but I touched it up the best I know how to and added the Black Template.

Wow, those covers are sweet. I wish the screenshots in the back were of better quality though, especially in the Double Dash cover, where it's most noticeable. Also, and this is really a minor thing, in your MP5 cover, the tip of the starman, which would end up wrapping around to the spine, is cut off instead. I personally think it'd look better if it wasn't cut off. I like covers that wrap around that way.

I'm no quality assurance guy, so I can only tell you what I see, not what the site demands. Still, I can't wait to see what else you whip up.

Hey all, first post. My dog peed on my GC games and here I've discovered an entire community dedicated to saving my beloved collectible games.

I did notice however, that the search bar wasn't returning any results for:

Medal of Honor Frontline (GC) so here is a raw scan if anybody wants to use it (just used my flatbed home scanner--but lmk if there are better settings I can use or something...):

I wonder how these would work blown up to American size? Maybe if they stayed at the 600 dpi dimensions when changing to 300?

Most image hosting sites, including the one you used, reduce the resolution to 72dpi. The image posted will be pretty much useless as a RAW because of the low resolution.

True that it's better to use Mediafire or Box, but in this case I would say that this case is more of a scanner setting issue.
