CD Poly Cases Thread - Console Covers

About the CD Poly Cases:
Found by soundwave925 (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=3026) these poly cases are made of soft, clear plastic which are pretty solid. The single and four disc cases both include clips to hold game manuals and a solid, easy to use hub for holding the game disc. Additionally these cases are the same dimensions as a Standard (non-slim) CD Jewel case. Because of this, they are an ideal solution to housing CD based games and saving your shelf some real estate.

Pros:
• The Poly Cases are more durable than a standard CD Jewel Case.
• Dimensions are smaller than the 8-disc poly cases, thus freeing up just a bit more of your shelf space.
• Solid outer sleeve allows for retail, or custom artwork to be displayed.
• Since the cases are clear, original artwork or inlays can be displayed on the inside as well.
• Best features of a DVD case, with a smaller, thinner package.
• Price per case is cheaper than most alternative cases.

Cons:
• Thicker (RPG, European) manuals won't fit with 4 game discs inside the case.
• Not as many covers (hopefully this is just temporary) as the 8-disc poly case.
• Not as many covers (hopefully this is just temporary) as the DVD case.

Not seeing any other DL option other than the preview (but I could easily be missing it)


In other news -- I've finished converting most of what Soundwave had saved off of 8-disc poly cases (I think there were 3 or 4 titles left, which will require a bit more cover manipulation and cleanup, so it'll be a while before I pick them back up, going to work on cranking out my unified covers).

Wow, nice! I'll definitely be using some of those right away.

Do you need me to make the PC/DOS covers topic, or is it something you start and I manage the master list?

It took some doing, but here's my first crack at a Sega Saturn Cover:

Pretty much re-created the whole cover using artwork I found online. The front was especially tricky, but I drew inspiration from the PC port of the game and moved the title to the bottom, which shows off more of Sonic.

@Velmeran - If you don't mind doing a revision to your Saturn template, you might want to add in the # of players icons on the back (same as Sega CD), and maybe also add an option on the back that only has stripes on the right side and/or bottom, like what I did on this cover (which matches the Sega CD template).

I've found an online retailer in Germany that also ships to the UK. They sell PP cases for 1 and 2 discs (which rules out Final Fantasy and the like) that are 282mm x 120mm, which is pretty close to these Poly Cases. There is a difference of 4mm, which I assume is in the spine, but I've been looking around for a while and these are the closest thing to what I need that I've found.

Your right about the interface its crazy even with google translator. I nearly gave up.

Cost is 26.70 euros which I make: 21.7614519 British pounds.

That works out bloody good I think?
I think I will take a gamble. I'm going to be pissed if I get just 1.

I will probably go with these cases myself, I'm in the process of redoing most of my custom covers. In some cases, I like to fumble with the designs myself, but the form factor of these is a massive advantage when you have a lot of case to reproduce.

I'll try and get the main post updated with scar's covers by end of the week ;)

Work has been a bit busier than normal, but we've had family with us for the majority of the last 3 weeks which has led to very, very limited PC time.

I just discovered that the site where I get my multi-disc DVD cases also sells CD Poly Cases, though I'm not 100% sure if they are the same dimensions. They are available in Single, Double, Slim, 4-Disc, 12-Disc, and even 24-Disc! The latter two are similar to the 8-Disc Poly cases Shenske found, though I'm not sure if the dimensions are the same (they are a little bigger than the other Poly Cases on the site). Almost all of them are available in clear and black, and some in white. Price seems comparable to the other site.

Probably not much application for the larger sizes in regards to games, but I could definitely save A LOT of room collecting my many Star Wars audiobooks and other CD collections. Also it may be another source for the cases (if they are indeed the same).

Thanks to lumberjoof for the raw scan of Silhouette Mirage i just made it. Had to clean up the back a bit but i am happy with it. I will post a word file of PSX games that i own the full cases for and see what people need and make them when i can.

i use the DS boxes. If you really want room hunt down the UK DS boxes they are clear and a bit bigger then US boxes

I do not want to take the time to mod DS cases for GB/ GBC games, but I'm using DS cases for GBA. I want to use Poly cases because there is no modding necessary, and to use them for PS1/ DC.

tweaking my temp trying to reach a standard, and i'd think for PAL games you should lose the border entirely. bigboxffvii up there wouldn't be much worse off without it, and by far most stanardized PAL PSX games with borders fit the dimensions fine once you crop that. for the old ones and bigboxes you'll need to re-tweak it a bit.

Whomever made final fantasy 9 i just printed it and realized the spine says its FF11 ... awkward haha. Also the template is about .2 in too vertical in my opinion. Has a bit of overhand outside of the case. Anyone have actual dimensions of the case?

These cases are about the same size as your standard PS1 / CD Jewel Case. They typically come in single, dual, or quad cd storage capacities. You can order them with higher storage capacity, but then you get a wider case.

The GameCube cases are more like normal DVD cases, just a different style. I've got a bunch of poly cases to get rid of, actually. Started to use them, but didn't like how they lined up on my shelf compared to other cases, so I want to switch to regular DVD cases.

It didn't take long at all. Maybe a minute or two. They know me there since I go there often. But they couldn't print them on regular paper. I wanted it on cardstock but legal paper didn't have it. So I told them ledger size. It's huge but it was cardstock. It was $2. I plan to also make UGC's  and more Playstation 1 and 2 so I just bought a pack of 125 sheets of Ledger cardstock For $18. They charge .50 cents to print if I supply the paper so it works out. Hope I helped you out.

Just upload them on a thumb drive. They only accept them as PDF format tho. So as long as you have those, you're good. Their quality is good because they have a laser printer. Also, it depends on the workers there. Some people might not do it because of copyright. The one I go to are cool with me because I go there so often.

I am. I love the CD poly cases. I have some I Frankensteined together from the 8 disc poly case and PS1 DVD ones that aren't on here. The quality varies and most of them were put together quickly but I can put them on my box account if you want.

I am. I love the CD poly cases. I have some I Frankensteined together from the 8 disc poly case and PS1 DVD ones that aren't on here. The quality varies and most of them were put together quickly but I can put them on my box account if you want.

Any of the better higher quality ones I'd love for you to put up! And if you don't mind I'll rehost them on my mediafire. My goal is to really make this easily accessible and a one stop area if anyone wants to print one of these covers.

So nothing really official for steam covers, went with a fairly simple approach and tried to refrain from putting it to much into my unitifed template format (though I still see influences in it)

Xbox 360 Template v1.0 -- heavily influenced by a 360 template done by vgboxart's EdwardPines (http://vgboxart.com/designer/EdwardPines/) (also known as DeviantArtist etschannel, he's got some pretty nice next gen templates) -- used a lot from his .psd and resized made minor tweaks to convert it to a cd poly case size.

If interest is there, probably wouldn't take too much additional effort to spring from this one to a Xbox and Xbox One template but for now I'll start on a Wii template.

This format isn't dead, is it? These are exactly the cases I've been looking for for games that came in jewel cases. I've noticed the site has no Pac-Man World PS1 listing, so I want to fill that void. I don't have Photoshop, so I had to use Photopea (an online image editor) which is able to open photoshop files and work through all their layers. Usually, I would use Paint.NET for everything else.

What do you think of these attempts? I'm using the Greatest Hits template since that's the version of the game I own.

I'm not sure which one I prefer. I don't have my jewel case anymore, but the jewel cases usually would just have the title of the game written in plain text. However, I love having a stylish title or the logo itself fit onto the spine of a case. It's just more attractive to look at when it works. My problem here is that this particular logo is too small in its normal dimensions as seen in image 2. I tried to stretch it in image 3, but I'm afraid it might look worse. If only I had a poly case to test it myself right now.

By the way, is there a Sega All-Stars template for Dreamcast? I want one of Sonic Adventure specifically.

Not sure if anyone is still using this style cover, but I only recently came across it and started using the template provided to build out a lot of covers for my PS1 collection using this case style (US versions except Tekken, Black Label). I mostly re-sized a lot of the 8-Disc Poly-Case versions that the main site has, and for any missing artwork, etc, used the high-res scans from PSX Database. Just sharing here in case anyone else needs these also. List of what I have is below.
