Those covers look very pretty. Where do you find some of the artwork, its amazing?

Nicely done technically. I'm not really into custom covers though as I'm more of a preserver of original stuff type, no matter how horrible it was. ;)

Sorry no horizontal :-\ If there are any specific titles that you want, I can prolly re-kajigger them for you.
I get the art ALL over place. Part of it is knowing how to search for exactly what you need, and part is just having the resources bookmarked that have the best stuff. LOTS of hunting basically. I've actually got Zelda Dungeon bookmarked now that I'm going to look at it LOL!
The SOM3 pics are again the result of much hunting. I don't know exactly where I found them at this point, but they are out there...
I know custom isn't for everyone (heck, is wasn't for me at first either). It makes it more challenging and fun for me and that's pretty much why I do it that way :)

Just a couple of things with Final Fight Guy.. The description on the back is actually for the original Final Fight. You just need to change "Cody" to "Guy", as Cody is not in FFG. That and the girl on the back (Poison?, Roxy?) is not in any of the US SNES versions. They are in both Japanese versions, however.

I will change that, I simply copied the body of text from a cover of normal FF1 that I DL'd from this site, and honestly didn't think to change it.
As far as Poison goes (come on, nobody makes fan art of Roxy ;) ), I wasn't interested in putting a pic of Billy on the back, so Poison gets a cameo.
An FYI for everyone, these covers are not always 110% perfect in regards to content. Almost all of the time I will use art that's at least related to the series (as in the case of FF Guy), but sometimes I totally fudge it.
For instance, my FF2 cover actually uses a modified image from Final Fight: Double Impact since I liked the art but Cody isn't in the game. So I revised it to make more sense with FF2.

Battleclash and Metal Combat are really good examples of this. There is NO good fan art or otherwise for these two games. So, instead of making my own, I just appropriated some of my favorite Japanese mecha art and modified them to better reflect characters in the games.

Wow that's really cool. You should work for the game companies doing box art! Anyway, I was bored so I fixed up that Final Fight Guy as best I could without the source files. I changed "Jessica's boyfriend" to "Jessica's friend", "boxing" to "martial arts" and of course "Cody" to "Guy". I also fixed up some spelling mistakes like "Recoverd" and "reccle" on the bottom and cleaned up the text, like where an "a" might have an extra line on the top.

The recycle issue I knew about, but only fixed it for some of the later covers. There's also a typo in the older covers by the barcode that says precations or something erroneous like that (on my phone so I can't check to see exactly what the typo is).
But, the good news is that all the typos are now corrected. So future wiggy covers will be typo free, as well as any that you guys make with my templates.

That's sorta what I was thinking too. I have one JP N64 game, and I originally made a variant template, but it looked super weird with only one different colored spine. This does seem to blend in a bit better. I'm digging it more and more now that I'm in the basement watching TV with the wife ;D
When I upload it I'll make sure to add a normal, black template version as well ;)

You know what's funny, I've never even played Max Carnage. I've had 99% of my SNES collection for over 10 years (including MC), and I STILL haven't gotten around to playing it. But, making these covers has really pushed me into playing more SNES. I'll prolly give it a go this weekend.
Uniracers is one of the few that I just went ahead and made from scratch. I love the simplicity of the game, and I really felt that a clean set of simple vectors would work well for it :)
The Sim covers were all fun and easy. They're all based on sort of generic things that exist in real life, so finding images is a snap!

If I were doing this, I'd probably not even worry about stuff like ESRB ratings, number of players type stuff, etc. Probably would amount to a small system logo in the upper corner/on the spine or something.
Again, just sayin'. Not like, ragging on you or anything.

I see what you're saying. Well, here's why my templates are what they are. I started off making some EXTREMELY minimal templates when I was creating covers for some Saturn/PS2/Wii/etc games. Here's what I mean by that.

Then I stumbled upon this site and it made me really wanna case up my cartridge games. So, I started downloading a bunch of Shenske template covers for the N64. After DL-ing a bunch, I realized that I don't really like the colored spines, whether they're red, purple, green, yellow, etc. Plus, his templates are a tad too busy for me. Again, not everyone is gonna dig someone elses style. That's actually a good sign that you've created good artwork. If everyone liked it, then it's not really pushing the genre any. Too vanilla. But, on the other end, if everyone hates it, then you either made something that sucks, or you're just trying to piss people off :P
So, I made my own template that better suited my taste but I still wanted to use the art in Shenske's covers in order to make life easier. This meant making a template that shared a fairly similar layout, at least in terms of the windows for the graphics. Of course this left me with large, unused areas where all the extra blah blah goes. It seemed easiest to just recycle that extra junk to fill the space as opposed to searching for artwork to fill the entire front and back (which I'm finding really quite difficult now that I've completely moved away from using original box art). After finishing the N64 games, I moved on to the SNES titles.
It wasn't until I ran into a couple of titles for which I couldn't find or hated the original art that I started using non-original art. At that point, I was deep enough into the project that I wasn't gonna start over from scratch. So, here I am with this template. There's definitely things that I'd change about it at this point even if I were to keep all the copyright info and whatnot. I'm about 100 titles deep now, so there's NO way I'm gonna go back and make those adjustments for my own covers. I'll prolly tweak it when I'm all done with my current crop of SNES games, which will likely make me wanna do them all over LOL!
For the last batch of templates that I've made or am working on I've moved back to a far more minimalist look like these double UGC cases I made for my portables.

This is probably largely due to the transition from original art and all the text on the back, to original art with less text, to original art with no text, then finally on to non-original art with zero text. I AM revising all of those slowly, but surely. I posted my variant Chrono Trigger so far. I've still got a bunch to do, and many of them are some of my fav games, which is why I did them first. So I really want to get them into a state that matches the newer titles that I've done.

I love tits just as much as the next guy. Trust me, I am by no means put off by such things.
But you must admit that it is a tad funny to have such a thing on the cover of a game that was marketed and sold to kids. Adult gamers were something of a rare thing in the early 90's.

Thanks! I was actually going to use the original art for that cover since I totally dig its Close Encounters of the Third Kind look. But, my template has a taller window for the cover art, so I had to fill it with some more outer space and maybe a planet. Then it became hard to find an image that was illustrated in the same style to mash-up, so I ended up looking at images of Cybertron and then it just sort of came together :)

I'd like to make a request of you if I may since you're more into the minimalistic-style covers.
Could you possible do a minimalistic cover for American Gladiators. (i.e. the American Gladiators shield only with no athletes on the cover at all)
I would be happy with either a horizontal or a vertical cover for this cover. (Actually, if possible, I would prefer a horizontal cover with the shield only on the front and with the normal retail cover for the back, but I'd be happy with almost anything.)

It's in my box account in the SNES folder, I never sent it to you because it is my Timon and Pumbaa placeholder (just waiting 'til someone comes across a newer retail scan). The spine/cover/back artwork is from Wiggy's cover, not true retail so I figured you wouldn't need it. The back text and pictures are all correct though, you might want it for an alternate temporarily (if you don't currently have one), now that I think of it... slipped my mind again... :P

Can you clean them and make 2 alternate fronts for the YC.

You got it. Also, you may want to re-download my Ardy Lightfoot, Lord of the Rings and Zombies Ate My Neighbors covers in a few hours (those were actually the 1st 3 covers I made!). I'm not doing anything drastic to them, but I just printed them out and realized the white "stroke" around the bottom SNES logo on the spine is missing and it has the old low-res logos... I'm also just quickly cleaning up any mistakes I've made.

I think I had already changed the LQ logos on the covers before I uploaded them.
OH BTW: Believe me waking up this morning was quite hard, and I had to drive few hours at beginning of my shift. Radio was on and loud.

There are so many die hards on this site. I had my work criticized for not having the proper UPC's. Now, before I put up any work... I make sure I have the right UPC and identification numbers. Personally, I think we should leave the area where the UPC goes white or blank.

It's funny because, in the beginning, I was ALL about having that barcode, date, and SNS number correct. But as time goes on, I tend to not really care. I still make sure it's all correct for continuity's sake, but if I were to start over, I'd simplifiy the templates even more and not worry as much of that stuff.

^^^ This. Especially considering that I make every damned cover for my games, I cen get burnt the frack out sometimes (see my Smartball and Ballz covers. Not my best work :P). For some of these games I'm just happy if I can find an image that's remotely related to the game.
It's easy to make Zelda and Mario covers galore, but then it comes to stuff like Marvelous for the SFC where I'm not gonna find much of anything, including high res original art. If they look decent on the shelf, then I'm pretty happy :)

Write down your 12 digits (without spaces), pick UPC-A and you're done.

For retail covers that can't be as especially all the old ones were basically just scanned in retail covers...
For custom verticals that is possible as only I afaik check those 100% for all the details.

There are plenty of doctored originals that I've downloaded. And plenty have incorrect dates and a few have the wrong SNS number. It's pretty easy to tell which have been doctored as the box graphics are photoshopped in from a non-scanned source and usually some iffy brush strokes that must be covering scuffs/scratches/etc. which are a different shade of almost black. Heck, some are straight up missing the SNS number :(

Ugh, I'll have to go through my DL'd covers. I found a few last night while quickly looking through, but it might take me a day or so to really sort through them. One thing that I did notice is that, of the 10 or so originals that I looked though, only one was an undoctored scan that hasn't been placed into a template. I imitate that would explain why so many are missing little bits of data here and there, because that info would need to be transcribed from the original, and we all know how prone to missing little details we can all be. It happens.

Could be that some people when using or horizontal template are to lazy to double check all the legal stuff.
I most of the time try to keep it 100% retail but I have to admit if e.g. there is written For Sale in U.S., Canada and Mexico only or For Sale in the US only..... I also leave it sometimes as it is on the template.
I always use the real barcode though!

It's not bad, not a massive fan of the front art or the logo though. Should use the 90's XMen logo, as for the cover I reckon it needs something a little more epic, a battle scene with the villian Apocalypse in it would be ideal.

crap i may have to start using your covers i like the cleanness of them. lucky for me i have not started to print any UGC cover and just a few handheld covers. right now i am working on making all my PSX games that are missing boxes from raws to ploy cases. :D and i have around 150 psx/ps2 games missing boxes.

Dont worry about TWG codes, just abbreviate the title of the game and put that in there. This one is the only one that's exclusive to TWG I believe so it dosn't matter.

Well you could do quad one for Final Fight 1,2,3 & Guy, and Jap versions too.
Or go nuts and make Final Fantasy 1-6 UGC, Final Fantasy 1-6 CD, Mystic Quest, Mystic Quest Reborn, Final Fantasy 4 Complete edition (hopefully someone makes this), Final Fantasy 6 Chrystal Shards, Final Fantasy 7-9 Double wide DVD cases, Final Fantasy 10-14 (+ all the additions and side stories). Probably needs PSP, GB, GBC, GBA and DS games in DVD cases too and Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles. ALL IN ONE BOTSET!

That MMX Collection cover is sexy. I don't recognize that back image. I'm a little disappointed in myself.
Triple covers are neat, but I'm no gonna use them. I'm not all that capable in terms of this level of case modding. I think if I wanted them grouped together, I'd prefer a box set box, and I'm not all that fond of those either, personally.

I can't do orper (use a mirror) retail. The thought just kills me. I wanna find it in the wild for a decent price. A local shop has a loose cart for 50, and I'm seriously debating picking it up at this point.
Funny you should mention that though, as Zeanhaven and I are talking about a new idea for orper games and these 3 titles were part of that conversation. Think 1 cart, 1 complete series ;)

K cool, thanks. I did these in MS paint. I have no experience with editing covers so it's probably sloppy, but I like the way my cases look now instead of the blank white paper. I also used covers from Autobot.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game at all, as a matter of fact it's quite good for a beat 'em up, especially with 2 players. That's why I'm keeping it.
I just like the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs the best for a beat 'em up, which was never released onto console unfortunately... (Though, as of today, it is now a part of my dreamcast collection!!) MWA HA HA HA!!!!

Nice games. The covers look good. Very dark blacks and red reds. Mine look so faded in comparison. I think Contra 3 would compliment your collection nicely, but that's just my opinion.

Finally got my account activated after weeks of only being able to browse through posts. Just wanted to say that you the man Wiggy. Your covers are awesome (specifically the SNES ones). After messing around with the templates provided on TCP I made a few covers and I can't lie - I modeled them after yours (black spine, color artwork on the front and back, no words). I'm not big on recreating the official covers so I decided to make my own using various fan art found online. I do think i'm going to be using your Mario World and Pilot Wings tho. So far I've made Mega Man 1-4 (NES) and F-Zero (SNES). Anyways, just wanted to say "keep up the good work" Wiggy!

If I did it over, I wouldn't use my SMW one either LOL! A lot of my older SNES covers need an update. I started off quasi-retail with all the text and whatnot on the back, and slowly switched to eliminate the text, company logos, etc. It bugs me to no end having those covers on my shelf at this point. Some day I'll go back into them :)
I've got a handful of new covers that I need to upload. Haven't made a ton lately with the business growing and baby Oscar keeping me busy beyond belief, but I've managed to sneak a few in here and there ;D

On SNES: Soon about 40, will rise to 70+ beginning of next year when I have extra money to spend. On site has nice offer of 10 games for 375 shipped, and one the other site has few nice CIBs I'm missing. Also waiting one member here to finalize the Yoshi's Island carts (Super Mario World 2 plus and Super Mario World 2 plus 2 are name of the hacks). The other site tells more, it still works but you'll need to use the old URL.
On NES: 20 or so.

At least Roy sorta resembles Jack Flak lol. Matching his white collar and sleeves to the color of his vest would help even more. Not exactly sure who Batsu would be compared to tho.

Now that I'm sitting back and looking at it, I could make this work better with some quick color palette swapping. Batsu could easily be Jack if I just made his jacket red, and then Roy could easily pass for a mask-less Iceman with a swap to blue ;)

Wiggy's SNES covers are the best! Simple, awesome, and somehow classic. I modeled mine after his but then I turned them into inlays since I thought the insides were so bare! I love seeing everyone's "Wiggy Style" covers, keep 'em coming!

I haven't printed them, but I cabn see them fullsize on 1080HD TV, and despite the low resolution backs of 2 and 3 they should print out just fine.

Well I just can't be satisfied with my own work, so maybe I have to request Wiggy to do some new covers?
I would love to see a new DKC1 2 and 3, and Mario Kart as well. F-zero needs an update and then maybe some complete new ones like Goof Troop, Harvest Moon, Super Mario world + Allstars.

I think the color prism should also wrap around onto the spine instead of being interrupted there and the spine just being black.

Not doubting that, but with perfect quality image printed on Semi-gloss photo paper and put inside case that has clear (non-foggy or grainy) sleeve the cover would look way better. ;)

I have no idea if anyone is reading this anymore, but is it possible to request covers? I love these ones, but I want my spines to look the same on the shelf (minus the title of course) so I don't want to use these if I can't do it for all games.
Can I either make requests or does someone have a blank template so I can attempt this myself?

Most people that go down the road of the wiggy cover usually use his template and make their own. I believe there's a few threads that TCP members have posted with wiggy style covers.

Not a whole lot. Life's been a bit hectic, so I haven't had nearly as much time as I would like to make covers :(. My computer is packed away while we re-paint a lot of the interior of our house. When it's back up and running, I'll check to see what I have that hasn't been uploaded yet :)

Is Zelda: The Missing link a new romhack? I can't seem to find anything about it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. It's actually just Zelda 3 where you play as the Princess Zelda, instead of Link. I think you'll find it if you google "Zelda starring Zelda". I made it as part of a one-off project for someone who did some work for us as a partial payment.

I know this is a really old thread, but when i have downloaded these, they dont appear to be the correct size(and not the same size as the template).

They seem to be bit narrower than normal UGC covers, but only by 30 or so pixels or tenth of a inch so no real difference.

I thought they were meant to be 11.2 inches(this is the size of Wiggy's template), they are only showing as under 7 for me when i open them up.
Oh, and i thought they were that good, rather than use the standard, im going to start creating some myself, even though i have zero artistic talent at all.

Thanks, and of course! It should be in he thread found in my sig below.
And to address why they aren’t the same size as other templates on the forum, 1) the sleeve on UGCs seems to be attached further inward than they were when all the original templates were made. I came to this forum long after that, so I just measured them for myself and went from there (and I use metric measurements, so that’s why the inch dimensions seem odd), and 2) the height of the templates on this site are too tall for my taste. The insert either just fits, or sometimes pokes out of the top/bottom, depending on the batch of UGCs. Helps keep the delicate printouts from getting worn.

They look great!
That gray border is a carryover from when my SFC template was all white. I really should remove it from the template. That said, it’s on its own layer, so can be turned off.
