After reading about the genesis of the project here
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=456.msg8701.0 (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=456.msg8701.0)
and even though I don't own a TurboGrafx-16 or PC Engine, I thought I'd try my hand at a TG-16 template.
And here are the results:
Template

Military Madness

I'm working on an idea for the PC Engine template, but there is a severe lack of good game scans on the internet. I'll post something when I get a better idea on how to proceed.
Tell me what you think!

Looking good so far. I like the retro look. Maybe you and ugcluke009 could join forces. Although he had a different approach with his half-height cases it is probably a good idea to exchange artwork.

I've still got some tweeks to make, and like I said I have almost nothing when it comes to the PCEngine side of things.

Nice work lumberjack but maybe you could find a way to show a little more(or bigger) artwork on the front and back and less black/white....?
Looks a little bit empty now.....

That's actually how most of the original TG16 games were packaged

Weren't the TG16 games packaged in jewel cases like their jap counterparts?
So the artwork was all over the cover wasn't it? Except for the back of course....

Not all of the original TurboChips, or HuCards as the were known in Japan, came in cd cases, some in jewel cases, some in boxes. Hell, even the Turbo CD games sometimes came in huge packages on occasion.
Here's another game attempt

Okay, here is an updated version.
My only problem is that I can't decide between the white front logo or the color front logo.
What do you guys think?
HuCard Template - White Logo

CD Template - Color logo

Lumberjack42

the template looks great, i really like the retro look!
i also don't know much at all about the turbo gfx 16.
I personally like the white template you made as apposed to the color version.
-
My vote goes for the white template.
I would be happy to upload the few scans I have if one of the mods will put up a TG-16 section. I would love to have covers for all these games.
-
I'm guessing that white is the consensus?
I can do either and I may include both in the template just in case.
Still working on a PC Engine version but I don't have much to go on.
Lumberjack42
-
Definitely the white front logo....
-
Indeed. White looks much better.
-
The white one seems to fit in the retro-core of the system, looks great, congratulations
-
Seeing as how we have some ideas for the TG16 just thought I would offer up my PC-FX template.
(http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/914/tgcoverzi1.th.jpg) (http://img170.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tgcoverzi1.jpg)
BrandsoftheWorld.com (http://BrandsoftheWorld.com) has high res logos for the TG16 and PC Engine
-
Here's my stab at the PCE side of the template. I'm still not sure if I like it or not.
The template has separate banners for HuCards, CD-Rom 2, Super CD-Rom 2 and Arcade CD-Rom games.
Tell me what you think.

Wow that looks awesome!
I like the Pc Engine Template a lot more than the Turbografx....

Here are the (mostly) finished templates

Thanks,
I'm still making tweaks to the TG-16/TG-CD template, but it's just some minor things. The main part of both templates is done.

Here's a couple from the complete (I think) template
System Card 2.0

Hey Snowcone,
I think it may be time to finally add that TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine section to the site now.
Lumberjack42
-
So we'd just need a TG16/Pc-Engine section then....
Then we would need a new case descriptor(Hu-Card(or Turbo-Chip) case)..... Or maybe we could label it cd case hence it looks like a cd case from the outside.... At least the Pc-Engine cases do....

The TG16 TurboChips did come in both. They had an outer box, then a CD case for the card itself. Course, the CD games also came in an outer box as well.

Do you know if the japanese Pc-Engine titles also had cardboard outer boxes? I never saw those....

There were no cardboard cases for the PC Engine games. The CD jewel cases had spine cards, but no outer box.

Lumberjack42,
Do you have the Turbo/PC Engine templates available for download? I'm eager to get started making some new covers.

These look pretty cool! I guess the idea is to just lay the HuCard inside the DVD case? Would a HuCard fit inside a slim DVD case?

Lumberjack42
How about naming the category TurboGrafx 16?
All the consoles we have that were released in European, American and Japanese territories are listed here with their US name (e.g Genesis instead of Mega Drive or NES instead of Famicom). So I think using TurboGrafx 16 as a category name would be the best.
The templates you created make it easy to distinguish between the different versions (TG-16/PCE or PCE CD/Turbo CD). So we could have a TG-16 section, put all related covers in there and avoid the console menu on the left being cluttered.
What do you think?

That's fine with me. My only thought to that was that there are about 6 times the games for the PC Engine family than there are for the TG-16/CD/Duo.
But we will also need to make a PC-FX section.
Lumberjack42
-
The TG16 section is now on the site (as well as in the raw section) so I'm going to make my final tweaks to the template and post it on divshare. If anyone has scans that they want made into covers, upload them into the raw section and I'll make them into pretty covers for you.

Here's all of the covers I have access to raws for in their completed form

If anyone wants a cover made simply upload 300dpi or better scans into the raws section and I'll make you a cover.
Lumberjack42
(It's kinda ironic that the category ID for the TG16 section is 42, I don't know why, but I find that slightly amusing)
-
its a shame...i have a handful of turbographics games... but as you have seen before my scanner does not scan very good at all. i really should go out and buy a good one
-
I uploaded some Raws for Dracula X: Rondo of blood (PC-Engine CD), It came from the desert (TG-16 CD), Shadow of the Beast (TG-16 CD).
I have Y's Book 1 and 2, however it is missing back insert in the CD Jewel case.
I really need to collect more of these.

I don't own a TurboGRFX or PC-Engine, but I gotta say these covers look fanrtasic. Good job Lumberjack42!

Lumberjack your are saving my butt!
I've had a TurboDuo for 10 years now and all my games have no covers..
MORE MORE.... I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!

Another great job.

Found something on CAG that you TG16/PC Engine people might like :)
Fellow CAG evilmax17 wrote the following:
Very reputable site. All they sell is new, factory sealed TG-16 and Duo stuff."
Quote from the site itself:
"Hello,
Turbo Zone Direct must clear out inventory! Our loss is your gain!
Well it had to happen, TZD must clear out thousands of inventory items before we must move in 30 days. This is your opportunity to save a bundle and lighten the load we must move. Here's an offer you can't beat, one we've never made before. We're offering 50% off our ENTIRE inventory for the month of November. Here are the details: You must include MOVING SALE in the comments section of your order. You must purchase at least $30.00 worth of merchandise at the net cost (after the 50% is deducted.) We will adjust the order total here. Your credit card is not charged until the order is picked to assure you the correct amount.
As usual nothing is held back, there are no limits to the number of items you may purchase or the number of orders you may place. This offer will end November 31,2007. We expect to close out a number of titles during this sale; we will make every effort to update the web site. This is a golden opportunity for you to stock up on your favorite Turbo merchandise at a super price. Don't miss out! Turbo merchandise not sold by TZD is getting harder and harder to find. As you know everything we sell is new, factory-sealed merchandise.
We do not know yet where we will be in 30 days so act now!
TZD is also looking for a wholesaler that might be able to take on or take over the legacy we started in 1994. If any of you know of a company or organization that can handle bulk resale of these classic video games, parts and accessories, please use our email contact at www.tzd.com Feel free to write if you have any questions, you know we value your input and support."

Lumberjack42
-
Nah, I think they look best with just the picture. I was going to put screens over them, but I thought it would've probably been overdoing it.
-
Crawdkenny I have a huge favor to ask.
I have Ys Book 1 and 2 but the back is missing from the CD case. Could you upload a raw scan of it? It is the part under the CD facing the back and the spine.
Antony30bc
-
I'll see if I can find it. Do you mean the back that's entirely black except for the stripe on top with the title (Which I have somewhere) or the back of the outer box (Which I don't have?)
-
The black with the stripe. I just want to recreate it and put it in my cd case. Also including the part that folds over into the spines of the cd.
I do not think any of us saved the shipping boxes. Which is a shame really.

Couldn't find the back cover, but I did a few more covers. Cosmic Fantasy 1 and 2 (Japanese versions.)

Hey Grumble, can I ask a quick question?
Why did you change the template to say Hudson on the front and spine when Hudson didn't actually design and build the PC Engine, NEC did.
Just curious.

Lumberjack42
The PC Engine was a collaborative effort between Hudson Soft and NEC. It was a 50-50 project.
Actually Hudson designed the PC Engine and NEC put in the money and manufacturing.
In fact the name ""HuCard" (used in japan) comes form HUdson CARD
So.. either Hudson or NEC would be correct.

The biggest reason, was that only games produced by AV/NEC have NEC written on them. I see your point though, its pretty rare to find a system that doesnt' have its Hardware manufacturer's Name on its covers, although by having HE System (Hudson Entertainment System) PC Engine,i suppose it does...well sort off. ;D

Really, the only reason I have a problem with it is it messes with the uniformity of the covers already on the site.
But you know, whatever.

R-Type Complete CD

The original was a little dull(especially the back) so i altered it a bit. :)
And switched back to NEC front/spine to conform with the others.Only change it for personal use now.
-
Nice work on the Strider Hiryu cover. I always thought Sega's artwork for the Megadrive version looked far better than Capcom's own official illustrations.

Most Japanese covers are rather nice. Engine CD covers are somewhat of an exception though. The fronts are ok by enlage..but the backs often look as if they were knocked together in about 10 mins. Engine Strider's back is just a load of screenshots stuck next to each other...and R-Type's has half the back taken up with system info (that happens a lot).

What are some of you using to replace the plastic sleeves that the HU Cards use to come in? I tried looking around for a good replacement, but found none.
How are you dealing with the HU Cards inside the DVD cases? Are you sticking them underneath the literature clips? I have a couple of loose HU Cards and would like to find a good replacement for the Old Plastic Sleeves.
-
I think the only option is to find very cheap games and take the hucard sleeves from there....
-
for my master system cards, for which i had the same problem - i cut down an A4 plastic wallet and taped up the sides. Works a treat and can be as neat as your patience allows.
-
Just discovered that if you buy one of the MS points cards, they come in a DVD style case with a card holder insert and HUcards fit exactly into it (minus the clear plastic case). Good point :- They match the DVD cases cos' they are DVD cases. BAD points :- They are orange and they would be difficult to get unless you buy your points from shops. The orange thing could be good if you could match it for the CDRom games, would give the PCE stuff an individual feel. Not sure if a Master System card fit Sheep. Dont have any to try...but i would imagine so. :)

Here a question for anyone interested. Hu-cards, Thin DVD case or standard size? I have some orange MS point boxes ready for myself but i think there only around in Europe. So apart from the problem that most Hu-Card cases have nothing on the back of them, whats the general concensus ?
-
thin would make game titles on spine really hard to see no?

I dont think so. VT's Sega CD stuff looks great in the 9mm cover size. I will experiment....

Paranoia (NTSCJ)
So as anyone who has JP HU-Cards in their collection knows, there's not a lot on the back of the box. With this, its in the allready established template so it matches the CD's and i kept the back pretty plain as a kind of Generic for any i do. It's similar in style to NGCD's infact. I have done a thin case with a spine very much like the original ones for my own use...if anyone is interested, i will post a version of it, although it does'nt match LJ's template so well. As a plus though, 99% of the JP cover art is better than the U.S counterparts...well i think so anyway. ;)

The Ninja Warriors (NTSCJ)
Anyone remember the triple screen arcade version(think Taito did a couple of Darius games in the format too)? Repetitive but i still enjoy it, especially the music. Would like the SNES follow up but the price is a bit steep. Also made a version in the thin Hu-Card style DVD case.

Hey Grum - any idea where i can pick up a cheap turbo duo/pc engine? Got a pile of CD's here with nothing to play them on.........

Hey Grum - any idea where i can pick up a cheap turbo duo/pc engine? Got a pile of CD's here with nothing to play them on.........
Unfortunately Duos are pretty expensive BUT in my oppinion the only way to go....
It is the only solution if you want to play it all without taking care about system cards or other peripherals.... I think the only thing you'd need would be a Arcade Card Duo if you want to play those arcade fighters which need additional ram....
-
Hey Grum - any idea where i can pick up a cheap turbo duo/pc engine? Got a pile of CD's here with nothing to play them on.........
Price is the problem with Duo's and the like, they're pretty expensive as the CD drives aint' that great and most places flogging them know that so up goes the price for a good one. You could pick one up as seperates to stagger the cost a bit. Were you after a U.S or JP version? CD's are region free but Hu-Cards are not. They are truly an awesome bit of kit though, especially when you take into account the age of the system and that its an 8 bit machine, ...in theory anyway. ;D

That's funny.. I got the opposite problem. I've had my DUO for over 10 years now and I still have not bought any games.
Now that I see the current prices, Im glad I got it a wile ago for $149

Nostalgia itself is hard to understand, but why TG16? I have never played a single game on the platform and can only think of 2 or 3 that might be worth playing at all.
-
I think you will probably understand Nostalgia more in 20 or 30 yrs time. Those of us still alive and playing will probably be stepping into 'Hololdecks' and saying to each other, "i remember the good old days when the (current gen console name) was the top dog...What a machine that was"
Some of us older members of the commune are well into stuff like Dragon Spirit, R-Type, Ninja Spirit, Dig-Dug,Galaga etc,etc and these are just the kind of things the PC Engine does well. I prefer to play this type of game way more than the likes of COD or Halo. Does'nt mean that i dont like playing COD or Halo though, its just a matter of my own preference. Sheep's more or less of the same age group as me and im pretty sure he would get a real kick out of playing games on a PC Engine. That would probably be largely down to Nostalgia but that's no bad thing anyway. :)
As a matter of interest, what are the 2 or 3 games you consider might be worth playing?
-
Absolutely grum - i'm wanting to play Vigilante, R-Type, dragon spirit, terra cresta........ the list goes on. I also remember being blown away by a baseball game i saw on one more that 20 years ago, that i wouldn't mind getting hold of.
Need to find myself a system 1st though i guess!

The only game I've ever played on a PC Engine is Saint Dragon. I loved that game to death. Couldn't beat it though. Never got past the third level. The game was also ported to the Amiga but I don't know how faithful to the original that port was because as I said I never got past the third level, on any system :D
It's more than worth playing though if you're into side scrolling shmups and up for a hefty challenge :) If the consoles were cheaper I'd definitely get one just for this game!
-
Vigilante (NTSCJ)
Sheep's mention of this game had me getting it out and attempting to beat my best 'Single credit' score.(i failed ;) ). Comes in the skinny box format too.
@kaiser
I have'nt played Saint Dragon in years. Had the Amiga one myself and used to pump many 10p's into the arcade version too. Cant remember how accurate a conversion it was but now im going to have to keep my eyes open for a PCE version.

I've decided that either PC (+ emulators) or Wii (for now, + homebrew) is the best console ever. Wii because I really like the GameCube's library of games. In time, everything is on PC, and when it is, you can decide exactly how you want to play it. Example: I definitely didn't want to play Zelda with a NES controller. It's boxy edges leave much to be desired. Playing it with my Xbox to PC adapter was much nicer. (Note: I hate the Xbox/360 controller, but it's the only controller I have that plugs into my PC)
It seems to me that MAME or Namco Museum Virtual Arcade (360) would be even better at playing Dig Dug. I don't like normal shmups that much, but to my knowledge the first or one of the first games I ever played was Pac-Man.
I like good games. Doesn't matter when they're from. I don't even like CoD or Halo that much. If TimeSplitters: FP worked on 360 with online, I'd be playing that. But some games were never good to begin with, but it didn't matter because they were among the best of their time. So I ask myself: In 2009, which is better: Bomberman '93 or Saturn Bomberman? I just beat the original Legend of Zelda game yesterday for the first time. I needed save states, because the Nintendo of the 1980's was stuck on two ideas:
- Designing arcade games that generate money
- Giving people really hard games so they think they have their money's worth
Really I didn't use them too much, just for an unlimited supply of money and whenever I started a room full of blue wizzrobes. ;)
I think the looking at the title of "best game ever" through rose-colored glasses is sad. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time looks terrible. Only through the use of emulators and high resolution graphics packs does it become playable. I'd much rather play The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Both games look better and play better.
Bomberman '93
Bonk's Adventure
Air "Zonk"

I am not finding pix anywhere. Google USED to be good, but it finds the most off-based junk when i do a search. I can look for pictures of a "Donut" and it will find pictures of boats, trees, aliens, etc...it's bizarre. Where do y'all grab pix when you no longer have the original art? Most of my TG16 games I bought used from Pharmor's video section when they cleared them out.
I'm trying to find enuff pictures to create covers for Cyber-Core, Cratermaze, Final Lap Twin, Keith Courage(there's not even a cover already for this???), Pac-Land, Space Harrier, and Vigilante.

Unfortunatly, there are almost zero useful PC Engine/TG16 scans floating around out there. You either have to be lucky, or get a bit creative and make up a custom.

Ordyne (NTSCJ)
As seems to be the case with most PCE/TG16 cover art, the JP version has vastly superior art to the U.S one. Well it think so anyway... :)
-
so, when you post a cover here, does it get posted to the archives too? i have searched them, but not the forums for those covers.

They get posted to the site if they meet certain pretty strict quality standards.
So mobygames scans are an absolute no go(low res, low quality, etc.) 90% of the time.... Some of our cover magicians(me not) can even make a nice cover out of the crap from such a site but it's really much work I suppose....
By the way I could provide scans for Keith Courage and Bloody Wolf both US....

That would be GREAT!! i really want to produce covers for all my TG16 games, since they will go well in DVD covers.

Just got a TG-16! Came with Side Arms - noticed there wasn't one for it uploaded yet, so I made two for it. One using the original "Flash Gordon"-esque American artwork, and another using images from the Capcom Design Works artbook and a custom logo based off the one that appears on the title screen.
Made up the back, as I didn't have the original package or anything. My first time doing anything TG-16, so it was pretty unfamiliar to me - If I messed anything up, let me know.

Hey guys I made a different version of the TG16 based more on the CD case and not the box.(see first pic) I want to see if you guys like them.
Its basically the cd case then instead of nothing on the back its some of the text from the box and some custom screen shots along with logos and stuff. I remade all the logos except the nec which I found a vector of online.

If you like them, I can upload them and possibly make more if people want to send me some cd covers/manuals scanned at 600dpi Im not sure what you guys do with all your raw scans cuz there are only a few up on the ftp page. First im going to finish all my games (13 games) so I can get them all in dvd cases.
-
those turbograpx DVD cases look amazing :)
-
Those look really nice; too bad they don't match the existing covers. Then again, if someone redid the 2-3 existing covers I have in this style I'd change in a heartbeat.
-
Jup those covers look very very nice and professional at first glance. :)
Would you also be willing to share the template (in psd format) for our template page? I suppose you also have options for TCD and Super CD games in the template right?
-
Great Im glad you guys like em, Ill post some links soon so you can check out the full size versions,
I havnt made any cd or super cd versions yet (mainly cuz i dont own any of them) in fact im not really sure whats the difference. I know there is a tg add on cd system and the duo but im not sure how they work for compatibility? tgcd, super cd and the cases with DUO logo on them??
anyways if I figure that out im sure i could come up with something for them.
I could probably upload a template sometime soon, I would have to clean up the psd. although ive been using other programs for like the text that could be a problem.
Are there any rules for all the crap you usually see on game boxes like upcs, copyright, warnings, adresses, all of that other BS you see in small text? I personally dont really like that stuff but it looks like many of the covers here have it.
and also were are all the the raw files located I cant find any links under the games?
-
Just check out our current PC Engine template here:
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=1610.0
There is much in there but I don't know if there is an option for the US stuff in it.
Actually we care about this crap. ;) UPC, publisher, developer, legal stuff should all be correct on a cover especially when it is a retail marked recreation of the original cover. Even on custom covers though it is indispensable to have a correct upc and legal stuff on it and not the upcx and legals from another game.
If the cover is completely custom (artwork, back, etc.) on the other hand it is up to you if you need legal text and barcode. If not then none at all!
Raw scans can be found here:
http://www.thecoverproject.net/uploads/raw/
Have fun! And welcome to the verlies.
-
well I looked in there (ftp page) but theres only like 26 files, is that all the raws for tg16? I guess I kinda need the cd covers anyways and not the box art because that usually has a TG logo half on and off the picture. The good thing is that Im sure more people have the cd covers than the boxes.
I have no problem with the upc junk just dont like them unless there necissary
I know it would be hard to remove the upc on some covers since it covers up artwork.. but out of curiosity what would the average person need the upc for? Is there another thread that goes into this kind of stuff?
well I finished two more up

FINAL LAP TWIN
CRATERMAZE (found a cute Doremi version)
CYBER-CORE
-
Love it! very TG16 ish
-
yah the japanese keith is much better it actually looks like the game characters. same with sidearms.
Well I finished up all the games I had. On two I went with custom covers, Sidearms I did what the7k guy did and used the capcom art since it actually looks like the character ingame I also made a custom story based on all the story stuff i could find on it. And Dungeon explorer because I dont have the manual and it is an extreamly ugly cover even if i did have it, I made one from the sega cd version. so let me know what you guys think. I may make the actual covers someday just to be consistent, I have the sidearms manual but maybe Ill wait Untill I get the Dungeon Explorer ugly cover.

i agree. I first loved Sidearms in the arcade. later, i found the PC version for $5 at a Wal-Mart clearance pile, and was elated. When i got the TG16, loved the game, but the cover was so ugly and so not how I would make it...many years later i actually get to be the cover artist! i love having a printer and the internet!!!
I just scanned it, but the cover is too big to fit (i've used the box to store TG16 instruction booklets for decades now):

lol, Yah there is another bizarre version you got there with another different storyline what happen to the "mobilsuit" and "bozon" from the arcade flyer. I cant believe that one at least the tg 16 one is kind of a man with a suit this is like a fighter craft, its like they didnt even bother to play the actual game or look at a picture where its clearly a mech/robot.
-
amazing covers!
why is the legal info in the back sometimes on the right and sometimes on the left?
-
thx, well depending on the size of the storyline and the amount of screen shots and shot size some times there more room on one side and it fits better. (The shots are new pictures taken with an emulator)
I have the main template done for just tg16 games when i get time I want to work on a cd and super cd version then Ill upload. I may have to start a thread for it with some instructions and tips for how to use it so it looks like the ones i made already.
-
how does this look for the cds and supercds
(http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/TG26.jpg)
-
Not bad at all.
I suppose you want to keep it all orange because of uniformity right?
Afaik Duo CD games were in many different colors.
-
Well the only other color that looks good is purple but im not sure if there is enough contrast with the black and im out of printer ink to see how it looks in RL. Some duo cases used purple and even one of the system had purple color text and button, if people like the purple we could do all the duo/cds in purple otherwise Id stick with orange.

Hm the violett looks a bit crushing. ;D
By the way there were also TCD games in
black: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/3/563763_57369_front.jpg
light blue: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/7/563797_86644_front.jpg
yellow: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/2/916112_47817_front.jpg
turquoise: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/3/589213_40586_front.jpg
red: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/3/589273_99215_front.jpg
pink: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/4/589274_101101_front.jpg
It seems like almost every us release with the Turbo strip on the jewel cases front had different colors.
If you would be really wicked you could include every color ever used for a TCD game. ;D
This would be an insane amount of work and research though.
-
BEAUTIFUL....looks like what NEC might have done!!!!!!!!. make more and available and i;, there....keep up the great work.

@tiktektak
I slid through the color range and no other colors really looked good imo.
Well this template is just based off of the orange cd case style (well mainly, I looked at some other tg stuff but the main focus was the orange spine) and im trying to only have one style. one thing i didnt like with tg16 is how the cases had the different styles and didnt stick to one, they had the orange case, the genre color tab cd cases, then you had games like sidearms that had there own lable on the cd case spine. then if we include the cd games theres even more styles. this is kinda like my opinion for genesis boxes I like the original style like sonic 1 had and the red spine like sonic 3 had but wished they would of just had one or the other the old one is kinda nostalgic and matches the original system but the red spine would probably win do to how it went with sega cd and 32x and saturn games etc.
I do think it would be a cool idea if someone wanted to make another template based off of just the genre color version style and then did all the games in that (including the orangebox and then something vary similar for duo/cds games)

@codewerkx
thx, I made some available a few posts back from my site for people to check out, will be uploading all of them to this site soon, just want to finish this template. then will probably make a new thread since id like to make a tutorial of some sort. what do you think about the purple for duo and cds?
----------------------------------------
Any one else have any opinions? go with the purple for duo/tgcds or just stay with the orange for them. (the hucards are going to stay orange just talking about the cds here) Id like to here some more peoples thoughts or opinions :)
-
Well I think I may go with the purple for duo unless I get some more opinions, Im starting to like it the more I look at it.
For fun I modded a few of my orange cases to the genre style case to see how it would look. the genre categories are kinda weird like how devils crush is action or aero blasters being arcade.. :-\

Hmmm. I dunno. The purple looks a bit smashing. ;)
Especially if there were so many different colors for CD games just using one (purple) on all would be strange. Maybe it would be best to leave them all orange.
-
like the category style the best......
-
Like multiple colours. Like the catagory style. The only thing i would suggest is that if you could do it, editing out repeats of 'NEC' and 'Turbo Grfx' from the fronts of stuff like Bomberman and Devil's Crash would make them look even better. This is not a criticism, only a suggestion as i know from personal expierience that painting that kind of stuff out can be a real pain at times. Keep up the good work. :)
(i have a JP Bomberman i started ages ago. I really should find time to finish it.)
-
@tiktektak
well I think it might be good to have the cd games stand out like if genesis games fit in a dvd case they would be red spine and sega cd would have blue. but then maybe people want there games in alphabetical order and want them all to match too, so maybe Could do both. so like
hucards - orange
cd/supercd - orange and purple versions
@grumbleduke
I agree and i did get rid of a few of the easy nec labels but otherwise to big of a pain for most of them i think, I did replace the nec and tg16 logos on all though ( I placed new versions over the old to have them look nicer)
ok so people like the color coded genre versions too. well I'll add that to the template so we can do all the versions without much extra work.
hucards - orange + color coded
cd/supercd - orange + purple + color coded
again it should be easy once you have one version done to do the other 1 or 2 (should take less than 5 minutes)
will take me some more time to get the template done need to clean it up redo some stuff and organize, plus been a little busy lately but hopefully have it up soon (could take me a week or two though) ...have to do some research on all the colors and make all of them.
Edit- I started a new thread and posted the template for the orange and color style - below is the link
http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=4007.0
I also edited some of my posts in this thread to make them smaller- made most of the pictures links
I'm going to upload the final version of the covers I made asap

On the dragon spirit cover it looks pretty good. If I were to get picky though I found a couple of things, the cover has some noticeable edges on it, like on the left boarder and bottom right, can i ask where you got it? is it a cd cover or a box cover scan? also one of the pics says nintendo world on it.
Another thing for the pics and i could be wrong but the hud seems to be different on a few like some could be from an arcade version or Japanese ver maybe. I have the game on an emulator if you need help with some pics.
also the tg logo on the cover is located like the box and not the cd cover, which is ok if that's all you have, I'm guessing it is a box scan so if you want you can take the nec logo off the cover since you don't need one, I only put mine on there to cover old ones otherwise I left them blank since there's already nec on the cover. also I would get rid of the tm on the cover
the paragraph description could be centered in-between the 2 sets of pics a little bit more
most of these are minor things, but if you would like any help let me know. if you have the actual cover scans and would like me to fix everything I wouldn't mind and that way i could also wip up an orange version too, and then give them back to you to upload since I don't want any credit, or if you like i can make the text layer for an orange version if you would like to make one.

ah ok cool, didn't see that thread. cool KW also uploaded Blazing Lazers, cool game.
well I whipped one up and did a photo-shop job on the cover symbol and got some new shots with an emulator
(http://www.ektophase.com/TG16/dscolor.jpg)
I also did an orange version I'll post a shot in the other thread.
Im going to submit the color one under your name and the orange one under mine(hopefully that works) :)

Ektophase I really like your nitpicky attitude when it comes to cover quality!
We could use some more people like you! ;)

Seeing how amazing you guys are with these TurboGrafx covers, would one of you mind assisting me with a request that I just posted concerning Tengai Makyou: Fuun Kabuki Den for the TurboGrafx (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=4136.msg36565;topicseen#new)?
I personally don't understand the color differences between the TurboGrafx's cases, but some have multiple colors per custom case. If someone could quickly explain the meaning of color per case, that would be awesome so that I know what cover (when completed) I should print.
Thank you again

@ShoothimNow well im pretty sure your 2 covers will use the pc engine templates since they are Japanese games
for American we got a template based on the box the cd cases came in,
and then we got a template based on the early orange cd cases
and another with the later color coded genres cd cases that replaced the orange ones - so like action games came with purple tab and racing with baby blue etc.
well for the covers I think we need someone with the actual covers to make a good scan unless we can find a really good picture off the web.
-
Gotta say, I really like the covers with the "genre" colors -- particular the one with only a little tab of color on top.
The whole coloring according to genre is a bit silly -- just making them a motley assortment of colors like the old 2600 games seems appealing.
Thanks to the creators!

Okay, here is an updated version.
My only problem is that I can't decide between the white front logo or the color front logo.
What do you guys think?

Are these templates downloadable somewhere? I've seen covers for a few games[such as Neutopia 2] but can't find them anywhere on the site or as links in the forums. Am willing to make my own and share them with you all.
EDIT; Umm, nevermind. I be blind. LOL! Although, Lumberjack or Ektophase posting a link or two to some of his completed[even if not perfect] covers would not go amiss.
